  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Prayers needed please

I'm sorry to hear of your child's potential condition. I hope that it proves not to be the case.

As I am sure you are very much aware, though, people with disabilities can still be blessings for some of the people who's lives they are a part of. If he or she is disabled, I am glad the child is at least going to be born into a family that will see the pregnancy to term and care for the child, treating him or her with respect and dignity.

Thank you fish. No matter what, this baby is a blessing. I only pray as parents we may be as much of one to him/her.

Praying! Aaron and I actually refused the quad screen, because friends of ours fretted over what ended up being a false positive for downs.

But, no matter what the outcome your child is a blessing from God. My brother has classic autism, and he has been an incredible blessing not just to our family but to everyone that meets him :)

kind of wishing we refused the quad...but, if it turns out that it is right, we will be prepared. But yeah...it was really a tough call to have it or not.

Thank you both for your love and prayers.

I can't make any promises, but I want to share with you that while our doctor did not professionally recommend against getting that test done, but did say that she had personally had a false positive on her own. My wife determined not to have the test done. Thus, it is possible that my wife and I are under the same possible 'cloud' as you (because we didn't have the test), only we remain joyful about the life that is going to rest in our arms fairly soon.

So, how do you think that you should feel?

I know that all this doesn't cure you trepidation, but, I trust that you'll be able to come to terms with your intellect even if you still struggle with your emotions.

Down Syndrome persons have an array of possibilities, by the way, and all whom I've met have been particularly content and happy people.

May the Lord richly bless you with strength. Amen.

Thank you. You do bring comfort.

I feel that I want this to pass from the baby and would gladly take anything on myself to spare them anything.

But I know that things happen for reasons and God brings good. This child, no matter what, is special and wonderful and ours. Filled with a dignity that is not diminished by any test or by any issue. But there is some emotion right now...and it will be a long few days until Tuesday morning.
And even then who know how "sure" anyone can be.

What we are sure about...is we love our child and trust in God and each other :) And really, That's a lot to have.

hi

i'm sorry to hear about your worries. they shouldn't alarm parents so much with "possibilities" of something wrong. as a parent i find it hard not to worry about the worst case senario.

*praying that God ease your worries* waiting for a child can be the most wonderful thing in the world, or the most nerve wrecking. I hope that with God's help you can treasure those precious moments with fond memories.

i also refused the screening test, because i knew the results wouldn't make a difference in what i would do. i already had 3 miscarriages so the risk might have been higher for disability. my son is now 5 years old, and has High Functionning Autism. my daughter is 3, mostly typical kid. and i was told that if ever i decide to have an other child, i would be asked very strongly to go for some tests because one of their goal would be to see if it's a boy and then offer abortion since boys have a much higher risk of autism. as far as i know i still have the right to refuse.

i looked up a bit about the quad test and i found this:

Out of 1,000 pregnant women, approximately 50 will have quad marker screen results that indicate an increased risk for having a baby with a birth defect. Of those 50 women, only one or two will actually have a baby with an open neural tube defect. About 40 women will have quad marker screen results that show an increased risk for having a baby with Down syndrome and one or two will actually have a baby with Down syndrome.
may God Bless you, your wife and child

Thank you so much. What you found is reassuring...in the end we will love and care for our baby no matter what.

My wife wanted me to thank all of you. So very much.

Oh David  I know how stressful a time like this can be. I am so sorry you and your wife were put under this stress. You are both in my prayers and your little lamb.

On another note, having worked in OB for 13 years, we know that this particular test is less than 30% accurate. False positives and negatives result form it. But it has to be offered/given because of malpractice.

When I had the test done with my daughter the results were negative, but that was a false result because of her having Downs. With my other daughter I just flat out refused the test (she was Downs also).

All that I can see with the test, is that it brings extreme stress and worry to the expectant parents.

I will be paying for God's perfect will for all of you. My pm is always open to both you and your wife.

prayers that your worst fears are not realised :crosseo:

My elder daughter was told with each of her 3 pregnancies that the child could be born with Downs Syndrome

She has 3 lovely children , 2 boys of 14 and 11 and a girl of 10 all typical kids - naughty at times and always very loving and none of them are Downs children.

May Mary ever virgin , Mother of us all wrap you and your very precious little one in Her Mantle of Protection

AMAZING NEWS!!!!

Out of the blue one of the nurses was looking at the test for a second time...she said that something about the numbers was wrong. They redid the numbers and they had used the wrong due date to calculate the values....that made them seem high.

So when they redid it...THE TEST WAS NEGATIVE WITH NO RISK FACTORS!!!!!!!

we have really good medical people to me we just saw the hand of God lovingly answer a prayer.

Thank you all so so so much!!!!!!

And I know staff is also praying so will a staff member let them know the news in the staff room.

Oh all...praise God.

David,

Just saw this thread and I'm so very happy for the good news. It is a shame that you all had to be anxious at this most wonderful time in your lives. But now, rejoice in the joy of the new life without that concern.

My mom was an ob nurse for years and never liked any of the new tests that came out. She always felt that these tests where created with an agenda (eugenics?), sometimes I think she was right! Not to mention how many false positives where involved in the tests!

But you and your wife and baby are always in my prayers!
