  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've been wondering.

I know God hears us anywhere but are we supposed to have a secret place we pray?

Or can we pray out in the open ...

Is it seen as lazy if we don't pray in a secret secluded place?

Pray as you are led in your spirit to pray. One time it will be one way, the next time it will be a different way. In Eph 6, after Paul tells us to put on the full armor, he then tells us to pray with "all prayer". That means every kind of prayer, whatever kind is appropriate to the need of the moment. It could be thanksgiving, or exclamations of joy and love; it could be crying out for deliverance, it could be reverently and quietly contemplative. It could be in your closet, it could be while you're working, it could be corporate prayer. It could be in your heart, it could be spoken. This is the liberty we have in Christ.

Some of my closest times of fellowship with God have been either in the middle of a golf course at night, or walking along a long lonely beach. Other times I have had fellowship with the Lord while driving along the motorway or waiting at the bus stop.

What Jesus said about praying in public is that we be not like the hypocrites who like to pray in front of others to try and impress them about how spiritual we are. All we would be doing is to be man pleasers and Jesus called that hypocrisy. That's why I pray short prayers in public. I say as little as possible - just enough to get the point across. But when I am on my own with no one to impress, I can be very free to have extended talks with God and to hear Him talk back to me. But if I am on that golf course, or walking along the beach and another person gets close enough to be within earshot of my voice, I shut up right away and remain silent until that persons passes by. It seems that the flow of the spirit of prayer stops short when another person approaches and then starts again when they have got far enough away so they cannot hear me talking to God.

You can always pray privately in your mind. Paul taught us to pray constantly (1 Thess 5:17).

No. Not so much, because none of us knows what life will bring, and if I am not able to get to my secret place, does that mean I shouldn't pray anymore?

Of course not.

I think the only thing we should avoid, is praying openly and publicly in front of people, so that we are making ourselves the focus.

"Look at me! Look at how great I pray! Look at how amazing my prayers are! Do you want me to use my amazing ability to pray for you? Just ask MEEEEEEEEEE!!!!"

That is.... not wise. G-d does not honor that. When you pray, it should be between you and him. Not out in public to make a spectacle of yourself.

So how you achieve that is up to you. If you wish to go to a special place, that's fine. But it could just be a prayer on the way to work in your car. OR whatever place you wish to speak to the Lord.

With a faulty premise (assumption of something), building on it won't get anywhere sound.

Read as able the Bible, and see why God does not hear everyone's prayers, no, not by far and so also not 'anywhere' .... His Word is best to rely on, as He Himself Says.....
