When I left the nursing home tonight she was comfortable, the nurses said that they had not expected that Margaret would have held on for the time she has. Her body is basically shutting down, she is medicated so she has no pain.
I thought that I would give a bit of background here.
Margaret was my next door neighbour for about 25 years. She is in her eighties and was always an outdoors person, very independent and loved her dog and gardening.
Almost two years ago her niece (she never married, no children) after Margaret had a fall at home had her put in a nursing home and had power of attorney etc which Margaret did not realise at the time. She went to rehab after the fall and I was told by her niece that she was going to make sure that she would not be going back home.
Every Saturday I take my two Shelties to the nursing home and we spend the afternoon with her.
She has slight dementia but still very "with it". Her hearing is not good either.
The last three weeks or so she has deteriorated, at times telling me she didn't know what was wrong with her. And couldn't settle, she had had a few health issues ie ear infection etc. When we were there on Saturday she was in pain and very distressed.
Late Tuesday I was told that Margaret apart from having dementia deterioration also had been found to have renal failure and wasn't expected to last the night ( her niece told me this).
She can no longer eat or drink and as from last night is not really conscious.
I will be back in the morning and will certainly update as I have said before it is just a matter of time.
I cannot thank you all enough for your support and prayers, I pray Margaret will cry out to God for that is all it will take for Him to open His arms to her.
It is now 1.35 Thursday morning and I am going to get to sleep now.
God bless you one and all.
