((Sorry for the late intro post all!! What season is it roughly? I figured if it was raining then it was springish...correct me if I'm wrong.))
Jenny groaned and pulled the covers back over her head as the sunlight streamed through the partly open curtains in her room.
"That's odd," she thought, rolling over so her back faced the intruding light, "Wasn't it raining earlier this morning? It was perfectly clear out last night, and it seems to have cleared up rather quickly now too."
Jenny was glad that her parents let her stay home sick today. There was no way she would've made it through school today. She'd stayed out last night trying to find a family of bats that she had gotten to know since last spring. They'd been mostly hiding over the winter, but Jeny thought they'd be out and around by now. She sniffled, reaching her hand out in efforts to find a kleenex, which was unsuccessful.
"Hey! Hey Jenny!" Quirk the guinea pig asked excitedly, "Are you awake? Huh? Are you awake? I saw you move...does that mean you're awake?" He ran from one side of his cage to the other, then climbed up on his platform to get a better look.
"Probably..." replied Speed the turtle.
"...not." replied Dash the turtle, finishing Speed's sentence.
Jenny smiled a little, yawned, and cuddled into her pillow as she dozed off again.

"Are you serious?" Rachel asked in disbelief, "Sure, the one time I don't have to be in school and it shuts down for the day. Freaking sweet." She paused to listen to her friend on the other end of the phone as she contied down the hall toward the front doors. "Yeah," she replied, "Sounds good. I'm just leaving now so I should be there in about half an hour or so, give or take traffic." Rachel smiled and snapped her cell phone shut just as she reached the front door.
Walking across the college parking lot, she pondered what must've made the lights go out suddenly, and why she had to miss it. It was a nice day out, even though it had been raining all morning. Rachel unlocked her black '02 Dodge Neon and threw her backpack onto the back seat. It ended up taken her just over forty minutes to get to the Pink Flamingo Coffee House.
Rachel saw her friends sitting up on the deck overlooking the front of the building of the old house-turned-coffeehouse. She grinned as she turned to park behind the building. Grabbing her backpack, she locked her car doors and headed inside. As soon as she put her hand on the corner of the house to make the turn, it was like the whole wall within a three-foot radius around her hand became transparent.
"Hmmm..." she thought to herself, "It's a little crowded today. Hope they saved me a chair." As soon as she took her hand off the wall, it was its old self again. She walked in, ordered and Irish Creme White Mocha with whipped cream, and climbed up the stairs to the second floor where she found her friends sitting outside.
"Now that it's stopped raining, it's a really nice day out," one of them said happily before they saw and greeted Rachel.
"I agree," Rachel replied, "But you guys need to tell me about what happened in school today!" They all laughed as her friends recounted the day's events to her over their hot drinks.
