Powerless

[Lessien]

"You could say that," Mike said.

"Only as acquaintences, barely that. More as strangers who have had the misfortune of meeting."

"Hey, could you use smaller words?" Mike said. "You're not in front of a teacher, so you don't have to be such a goody-two-shoes."

"It's just the way I talk. But if we're going to critique each others' vocabularies, might I suggest you use a few more words that don't make grandparents cringe?"

"You could use words that people other than Einstein understand...."

"There are plenty of people who understand me!"

Mike shrugged. "Whatever you say."

Kate threw up her hands. "Why do I feel as if all this happened before?"

 

[Ellesar]

"Uhh..no idea..." Chase said, slowly backing away from Mike and Kate, who seemed to be about to kill each other. "I'm Chase, by the way." Chase said, losing his grip on his water bottle. The lid had been partially screwed off, and when it hit the floor, the lid popped off, sending water everywhere. "Oh great..." Chase muttered.

 

[Lessien]

"I'm Kate."

"Mike." The water bottle fell. "Whoopsie!" he said, laughing.

"Need me to get some paper towels?" Kate said. "There's a bathroom right there."

 

[Ellesar]

"No thanks. I got it." Chase said, kneeling down and quickly directing the water back into the water bottle. "I'll have to remember to dump this out later..." he muttered as he stood back up.

 

[Lessien]

Kate raised an eyebrow, even though she had seen that in her dream, too.

Mike laughed. "Dude, that's awesome! How'd you do that?"

Kate hushed them. "A teacher's coming!"

"I don't hear anything."

"Look, I know he's coming. Just...act natural." She looked at Mike. "Well, you might want to hide in one of the bathrooms," she said condescendingly.

"Make me."

 

[Ellesar]

"How'd I do what?" Chase asked as Kate shushed them. He quieted down and strained to listen for the teacher's footfalls. "Do you know which teacher?" Chase whispered to Kate.

 

[Lessien]

"Mrs. Stockdale," Kate said.

"Oh, you mean Adolf Stockda--"

"Shut up!" Kate urged in her feircest whisper.

The librarian's footsteps could be heard now. "Quick! In here!" Kate whispered, opening the door of a supply closet.

 

[Ellesar]

Chase ducked into the supply closet and then moved toward the back in order to make room for Kate and Mike. "Why's the librarian wandering around the halls?" Chase asked quietly.

 

[Lessien]

"She wants to make sure no one escapes this torture chamber known as school," Mike said.

"Because she's going to yell at Mr. Preston for the power outage and demand he turn the lights on at once," Kate said, smiling slightly, though it couldn't be seen in the dark supply closet.

"And you know this...how?"

"Lucky guess," Kate said with a shrug.

 

[Ellesar]

Chase snorted in an attempt to stifle his laughter. "Like Mr. Preston can just snap his fingers and the lights will turn back on..." He reached for his water bottle and was just about to take a drink when he remembered that the water had spilled out on the floor. "I have really gotta dump this out..." he muttered.

 

[Lessien]

"Hang on," Kate said. A few minutes later, she opened the door. "'Adolf' Stockdale is gone now," she said, taking a certain sort of guilty pleasure from mocking a teacher. "But you'd better hurry and refill your bottle, because soon they're going to send everyone home."

"And you know this how?" Mike said, stepping out of the closet. "And you can't just say 'lucky guess.' I may have a low GPA, but I'm not dumb enough to fall for that one again."

"I...um...kind of had a dream about this last night. Everything else in my dream has come true, right down to you asking me that question."

 

[Ellesar]

"That should be interesting to hear about..." Chase said as he slipped out of the supply closet and rushed to the nearest water fountain. He dumped out the water and then quickly refilled it before heading back to Kate and Mike.

 

[Lessien]

"We're listening," Mike said to Kate.

"What is there to tell? I had a dream about today, and everything came true. A bit unusual--"

"Yeah, I'd say that."

"But nothing to be worried about. I mean, it's just a coincedence, right?" Other than the fact that it's happened for the past two weeks....

 

[Ellesar]

"It could be a coincidence..." Chase said quietly, thoughtfully. "But how would we be able to find out for sure? Anyway...let's get out of here before we're caught."

 

[Lessien]

"Yeah," Kate said, and headed back to class. Once there, she slipped into her seat. Mr. Griffin gave her a look, but said nothing as she got her books together. A moment later, an office aide came in with a note and handed it to the teacher.

"No school for the rest of the day," he said. "They won't be able to get the power working for a while." Joyful students hurredly stuffed books into their backpacks, and Kate was the first one out the door.

Knowing that Ms. Gonzalez wouldn't let him back in without a note signed by Mr. Preston, so he leisurly went back into the principal's office, grabbed his backpack, and sauntered off down the hall. When a flood of students came down the hall, he walked over to the front entrance to wait for his friends.

 

[Ellesar]

Chase already had his backpack, so he just went to the front doors. He stood to the side and watched the flood of students rush past him. I wonder what I should do for the rest of today... Mom and Dad won't expect me home until late this afternoon... he thought as he leaned against the school building and continued to watch the students stream past.

 

[Mewtwo]

Jake was supposed to be at his dad's restaurant. But he was late, unusually. He pulled out of his mom's driveway in the beatup orange pickup. Although the outside was underestimated, the interior was nice. He had TVs in his headrests. His back seat was nicer than his front seat, however, and it had Nintendo Gamecubes installed. Two. Jake pulled out and sped down the road, just making the speed limit. He pulled into his dad's restaurant five or so miles away and parked in a Fire Zone, assuming he'd only be there for ten minutes at the most. He went in and had lunch, and he lost track of time while he socialized. When he finally left he looked down at his watch. Three hours had passed since he had parked! He went to the fire zone he parked at but his car was gone!
Great!, Jake thought. His car had been towed!

Jade didn't return to class. She simply sat outside, in the rain. A swarm of students stampeded by, all chattering gleefully. Jade lay on her back, feeling her damp shirt sticking to her skin. She didn't mind. It felt nice, the storm and the wind. Wind...

 

[Ellesar]

Chase walked along outside, keeping the rain from soaking him. He failed to notice Jade laying outside and tripped over her, falling to the ground. "What is it with me and tripping over girls today?!" he grumbled as he sat up to apologize. "Hey, sorry about that. I didn't see you there."

 

[Donkey_Kong_JR]

Brian nodded to his friends as the warning bell rang for class. His class was on the other side of the campus. He sighed as he started walking. He knew he would be late... again. He looked over and saw a bench. “That’s so perfect.” he thought to himself, “Raise the ground up a bit then an easy kick flip over.” He grinned as he thought about it. He looked around and was about to go for it when he saw a teacher walk by. He sighed and walked into his class, just after the bell rang. The teacher shook her head, and he shrugged as he took his seat, sliding his skateboard under his desk. After what seemed like a hour of talking, the lights went out. Several of the students screamed jokingly. Brian laughed with the rest of the class. After a few minutes someone came in with a note, and gave it to the teacher. The teacher announced that school was out for the rest of the day. The students flooded out of the room. As soon as Brian was out of the classroom he got on his skateboard and rode it to the entrance of the school where he saw several of his friends.

Danny sat down in his seat as the bell rang. Several other students came in, and the teacher announced a pop quiz. Danny sighed along with the rest of the class and pulled out a pencil. He knew nothing about this, and just started to jot down random answers that sounded good. “Hey, not so hard.” A small voice said from his pencil. “Um... sorry.” Danny whispered. He knew it seemed ridiculous to talk to a pencil, but what else could he do. Of course this wasn’t the first time it had happened, some sort of object talking to him. It had happened most of his life, but was becoming more common now, like almost every day. “Don’t suppose you know anything about Pre Cal?” He asked the pencil in a hushed voice. “Nope, I just put down the stuff, no chance of me actually memorizing it. Not like I’m ever going to use this stuff.” The pencil answered. “Thought so.” Danny sighed. “No talking!” The teacher shouted. Danny looked back down at the quiz, just as the lights went out. The class remained quiet until someone cam in with a note and gave it to the teacher. “School is out for the day. You may go home.” The teacher announced. There was several cheers from the class as they all rushed out the door. Danny found his way over to where his group hung out and waited for his friends to come.
