• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There are so many flaws with the design of the human body that if we were cars we would have already been put away by lemon laws.

Oh, I completely agree. We seem to be just made to have issues. Poorly designed joints and the like.

It wasn't like that before the fall.

Can you wrap your mind around such a thing? Can you comprehend it?

I'm going to be perfectly honest with you.

From time to time you come up with these "witty" one line questions that no doubt you feel are very profound, and deep. That can immediately put a Christian on the defensive unable to defend their position.

Sorry to say they aren't all that.

The mustard seed is Christ, one single man which grew into a faith that has traversed the entire world from the first to the last of all creation.

The mustard seed is one tiny second of faith in Christ that opens your heart and mind for God to come in and turn it into an entire kingdom.

We could go on about what the mustard seed represents.

Not especially profound or deep. I do wonder about the creator of the universe wandering around and cursing fig trees for not having fruit out of season or telling people that a certain seed was the smallest when it wasn't. I don't go around telling people that PCs can't have more than 1GB of RAM to symbolize something else, and I didn't even create PCs.

The fig tree represented believers who had no fruit. They believed but they did nothing to show their faith at all. Had pretty leaves, but there was nothing of substance (like figs) that someone could get from them.

So God purposefully designed us so that we would have problems after the fall? So the creation isn't perfect?

Nope, but nice try. Again. I have to give you credit for trying.

The design was perfect. He cursed the human race for disobedience.

Her/his post wasn't about why the curse came to be. If the design didn't change, than how do you account for our physiology? The only answer is that we didn't have the same physiology so physiology is the curse.

If the design was perfect, why do we have such common problems now? Perfect implies without fault. There's a lot of fault.

So, either it was changed in design after the fall, or it was always flawed and our sinless nature kept it from breaking down. That means, God designed these flaws, which makes the creation imperfect.

I'm a member of an atheist forum. I lasted a few days. It got boring pretty quick.

And if this place got to the point where all the members agreed on everything, it would get boring too. It would loose it's value.

Threads would go like this...

-----

Member A - Homosexuality is wrong.

Member B - I agree.

Member C - I also agree.

Member D - Me too.

-----

Member A - The earth is 6,000 years old.

Member B - I agree.

Member C - I also agree.

Member D - Me too.

-----

It would be a forum of intellectual inbreeding.

A curse was applied to the design. It's like tainting water. Water is water but if I add arsenic to it then it is "cursed". It's still water. It doesn't cease to be water. It just now contains poison.

Yep. I have learned quite a bit from forums though. I'm pretty insulated in my world and before the internet I was unaware of the various types of folk across the US and globally. For example, I had no idea that bigotry was such a problem. I had no idea what creationism was. I guess ignorance being bliss might have been a better option but it's too late now that I've eaten the forbidden fruit from that blasted tree. lol

So this curse is what caused our design problems to be exploited? Therefore they existed in creation, therefore it was only the sinless nature that kept it from falling apart.

God created design flaws knowing they would hurt us in the end, because he knew we would fall, so he knew we would suffer with these problems. His curse exploited his own design.

Either that or God was the universe's first C- engineering student.

Honestly, I don't think I can. I've read the book and have had people tell me about the fall many times.

I understand the assertions that we used to live forever and such but the problem I have is that people have attributed so many things to this fall. I've heard everything from ERVs matching up with common descent to the death of the dinosaurs being attributed to the aftermath of this fall. It seems like every Christian pictures it differently. Even if for argument's sake I let you get by on your claim without pressing for evidence that this fall even happened, I don't see how the fall as commonly described even explains these things that are attributed to it.

You will have your chance to bring your charges against God directly. Then I suppose you can make your own mind up at that point.
