Good morning my brothers and sisters in Christ,

I am not Catholic, I need to preface this with that for understanding on why I ask thus.

I read this article online that purports that Pope Francis unsealed some ancients scrolls the RCC has been in possession of for centuries. These scrolls claim to reveal the true name of God as revealed in Exodus 3:14-15.

Does any here know of the validity of these claims. I'd really like some feedback on this please, thank you!

I mean, I've never heard anything about that. I'm not even sure such scrolls truly exist or that the Church is actually in possession of them (although they could be).

Do these scrolls suggest God's true name is something other than what he revealed to Moses in sacred scripture?

The article purports to be a scroll of Exodus with the actual name revealed to Moses, unedited to say "LORD" as most are. Excerpt:

The discovery of the scrolls in question dates back to 70 AD, when the Romans sieged the Temple of Jerusalem. Previously hidden from the knowledge of the Church for centuries, these hidden scrolls were obtained in 463 A.D and subsequently banned by Pope Hilarius for a very important reason. He aimed to keep the true name of God hidden from the people and had it stricken from all official literature. The scrolls contained the true name of God as communicated to Moses in a censured part of Exodus 3:14. Ever since, the true name of God has been passed down from Pope to Pope as privileged secret knowledge and kept hidden from laymen until Pope Francis decided to put an end to the “double life” the Vatican was leading by revealing this secret in 2017.

In Exodus 3:14, appearing before Moses as a burning bush, God reveals his name referring to himself in Hebrew tongue as “Yahweh” (YHWH) which translates to “I am who I am.” The Church decided that this name needed to be replaced with the words “God” and “Lord” and so “Yahweh” was stricken from all the passages and the scrolls were kept in the Apostolic archives of the Vatican and hidden from public knowledge as the name of the God was to be known by the Pope only.

The original article was put out by a tourist company specialising in tours of Rome and Barcelona. They wouldn't be trying to drum up busines would they?

I think the whole thing is garbage, the usual "Catholic-Church-Is-Hiding-Something" so beloved by those suspicious of anything Catholic.

It wasn’t the Catholic Church that censored the text but the very holiness of that name which the Biblical authors were reticent to use, substituting in LORD.

I think if the pope had actually uncovered such a text it would have been BIG news and we all would have heard about it. So I think the claim is most dubious.
