sweetkitty, following throughout this thread, it's pretty hard to get past that you're not a prejudiced person on homosexuality. After all, you compare homosexuality to pedophilia. There is something seriously wrong there if you consider something as unharmful as adult consented sodomy to something as harmful as persuading immature humans into having sex with them which could scar the kid in the future. You have no evidence to support that homosexuality is indeed harmful. Where's your compassion?

One more time..I did not compare homosexuality to pedophilia...I asked someone that had stated that the goverment should never be involved in what goes on in a citizen's bedroom if that included pedophila...where is YOUR honesty?

So then, would you agree that adult consented sodomy, using protection, is indeed harmless? I'm not talking about spirituality, just give me an answer for that. If it's harmful, please give me reasons why.

First of all, I will answer your question. No, I don't think pedophilia should be legal, as it harms and infringes on the rights of the child.

There is no reson to keep gay marriage illegal, it does not harm anyone and it does not infringe on anyone's rights. Who cares if it's "biblically incorrect"? Laws sould not be based on an ancient religious text, the purpose of laws is to protect people form harm and to protect rights and freedoms.

Legalizing gay marriage does not harm anyone, and it does not infringe on anyone's rights, keeping it illegal does infringe on someones rights.

It is Christians who want special rights, not homosexuals. No one should have the right to force their religious beliefs on others.

I don't think Christians want special rights at all. We would like to be able to voice our religious beliefs without being called homophobes or bigots or hatemongers or whatever.
Furthermore,I frankly don't care if gays get married.
I believe that some things God will take care of in His own way.

Scorecard -

1.) Christians want to influence society to keep its values more in harmony with Biblical ethics. This makes Christians intolerant and shows that they are forcing their morality down society's throats. This is BAD.

2.) Liberals want to influence society to change its values to harmonize with whatever today's Liberals think is right for today. This shows that Liberals are tolerant, because even though they are forcing their morality down society's throats, they're only doing it for our own good. This is GOOD.

Are we all clear?

Amen sweet kitty. I know God will deal with it when its time. I dont care if someone is gay, but I dont condone it either. If it was ok, why did God destroy Sodom and Gomora? Now I bet I opened up a can of worms I'll never hear the end of there. Let the gay people do what they want, they're the ones that will have to stand before God on judgement day and give account. Judge not less you be judged.

What I don't understand is why God would care so much about this issue. Wouldn't God be happy that people are actually loving each other and not hating each other even if it was between two men or two women?

(edited by staff)I'm sure there are more things to worry about than homosexuals enjoying each other's company...then again, good probability that a god might not even exist at all, so why would it matter?

Tribe: LoL. That's funny. Untrue though. We just want people to understand that this is a secular nation that shouldn't use ANY religious text to determine its laws. At least I do XP

In the case of homosexuality, the Biblical arugement against it is illogical...as this the moral/immoral agrument. There's no reason to make homosexuality/homosexual marriage/rights illegal. I don't there's any logic in disapproving of it (homosexuality). That's just IMO, of course. Just depends on who you are, I 'spose XP

Sweetkitty: You may not think Christians do not want special rights, but they do. Special schools, special funding, teaching of Creationism/ID in science classes, enforcing of Christian ethics, Civil Rights (I include this because a lot of people seem to think giving gays civil rights means giving them special rights)...etc...

Not that there aren't some other groups demanding special rights. Like a lot of these liberal groups and their 'hate crime laws' XP

Of course the Christian "influence" is one that denies rights to a group whose actions don't infringe on anyone else's rights so of course that's intolerant. The so-called "liberals" want ALL U.S. CITIZENS to have maximum individual freedom that ends for an individual when it infringes on the rights of another. That is good and is one of the cornerstone principles of this country.

Obviously the latter is better and in accordance with the Constitution. Using a religious bias in the government is not.

No? Then why do many Christians want the government to fully endorse their religion as the "Truth" and expect the entire country to abide by the rules of the Christian religion via legislation against a group of people who don't infringe on Christians' rights even though establishment of religion is strictly prohibited?

The only answer I can think of is that those Christians in question want special rights to ignore the Constitution and freedom of the individual. Those Christians value freedom only for themselves, but when the gate swings both ways, they want to be a special protected class that can restrict the freedom of others for no legal or rational basis, but for a religious basis.

We would like to be able to voice our religious beliefs without being called homophobes or bigots or hatemongers or whatever.

You don't have that right. Perhaps if those Christians who deserve the label "homophobe" for demanding special rights for their agenda of bigotry realized that there are other people who live in this country who should be able to enjoy the freedoms they do, then maybe there wouldn't be such a backlash from those people who realize that freedom is being unjustly restricted by such zealots.

Furthermore,I frankly don't care if gays get married.

Then there's no reason to keep on complaining if you really don't care about the issue and you might as well allow people to enjoy the same freedoms as you do.

"Homophobe"?

homo = same, alike (from Greek)
phobe = one who fears (from Greek)

Homophobia = "fear of sameness"

(Advocates of homosexuality created the word "homophobe" to use as a slur against anyone who disagrees with them. They allege that it means "fear of homosexuals." They also allege that anyone who has any negative feelings towards homosexuality or homosexual acts is actually afraid, perhaps afraid that they themselves are homosexual.
Unfortunately, this bit of Pop Psychology has been swallowed hook, line, and sinker by the average American.)

Ah, but what one does, even in their closet, does affect and infringe on those around them.

Do you remember Achan and the sin he commited? You can read about it in Joshua chapter seven. It affected all of Israel, not just the one who commited the crime. There were thirty six men who died because of it, as well as Israels name (hence, Fathers name) being brought into reproach. "All" he did was steal a cloak and a piece of gold, that's "all". But it was contrary to his instructions.

Father is faithful and will judge all justly.

1 entry found for homophobic.
ho·mo·pho·bi·a ( P ) Pronunciation Key (hm-fb-)
n.
Fear of or contempt for lesbians and gay men.
Behavior based on such a feeling.

Source: www.dictionary.com

The liberal coining of the term comes from also defining homophobia as 'dislike, disapproval, and oppression of gays'. So if you disapprove of homosexuality, you're a homophobe according the them. The trouble is it makes people who disagree with homosexuality sound rather foul. It's probably meant to too.

A real homophobic, I imagine, is someone with an irrational fear of gays/homosexuality. They might exist, but I've yet to meet one.

That is completely irrelevant. The bible has nothing to with this discussion.

Please stay on topic.

Actually, homophobia is defined as an irrational prejudice against homosexuals or a fear of homosexuals.

It has also been shown that some people who do have "negative feelings towards homosexuality" are in fact gay themselves and project their self-hatred onto others to deny their own sexuality. It is not always true, but it does indeed happen so to say that it is mere "pop psychology" to imply that it is false is incorrect.

The classical etymology of the word is irrelevant also. Many words from classical languages are still used now but their meaning is not precisely preserved. What matters is how the word is defined now. I guess if you prefer we can use only the word "bigot" for example toward those who have an irrational hatred for homosexuals and want to restrict their freedom.

First off I must reply to link that tribe submitted that called into question the legitimacy of a gay marriage. Since he expressed his opinion thru a link I shall reply in kind.

http://www.divorcemag.com/statistics/statsUS.shtml

That is cold hard data. The heterosexual americans have absolutely no right to call into question the honesty of gay marriage when they themselves teeter on a 50% divorce rate. To do so is highly hypocritical.

Percentage of first marriages that end in divorce in 1997: 50%
Percentage of remarriages that end in divorce in 1997: 60%

@Volos
"
The bible has been used for nearly two thousand years to justify prejudice and discrimination against women, against people from color, against non-Christians, against the handicapped and many other minorities.

Simply because a prejudice can be defended biblically does not make it moral, good or right."

preach it!

It's not so much the bigotry I'm surprised at but the reasoning behind it. As you said it's the same faulty reasoning that has led to the oppression of many races and beliefs. Wether they realize it or not they're an echo of slave owners, NAZI's, and KKK.
