Flipper...good to hear about your mother...we'll keep praying! :prayer:

Hey, I didn't know you lived in South County! That's where we lived when we lived in STL in 1998 - 1999. We were near the Butler Hill exit of 55 South...just one exit North of Arnold. LOVED IT there! I worked fairly close to the Bevo Mill--took me only 20 minutes to drive to and from work. None of that West County traffic to contend with...

Oh ya and Go CARDS!!!

She went home tonight. She went to Adam's store and he filled her scripts himself and went over them with her - I feel better about that.

About South County, Oh my gosh - those ARE my stomping grounds. I grew up in Arnold and now I live right off of Telegraph. My guess is that you lived near Washington Lutheran School? Gotta love that I-55 traffic. Only takes me 20-30 minutes to get to downtown.

Thank you for the vote of confidence for the Cardinals, though I'm thinking at this point that prayers are also needed.

And Flipper, I saw something on MoDOT's website on how their going to replace the Poplar Street bridge, it's supposed to be on new location north (I think) of where the crossing is now.
I'm going to have to look at that. I'm not sure where it could go if it's going north. Interesting. Thanks for the tidbit.

I'm torn on the toll road issue. I've been in states that have the toll roads, and their highways are much better maintained.

:) Sounds like she is in good hands!

Yep! Our youngest attended Washington Lutheran. He was able to ride his bike or unicycle to school. We were members at Abiding Savior. -----R

My church (Faith) partners with Abiding for Washington Lutheran. A couple of friends of mine are teachers there. Small world, huh.

The design took four months (sorry if I was unclear!). Even we need help when it comes to some contractors, though... On two of my big projects, the contractors are pretty small and have gone DEEP into liquidated damages, and of course, the state (me and others!) gets blamed...

For that IH-35 project, in January of 2000 alone, I worked 122 hours of overtime (straight time, not time and a half!), but when it came time for my wedding/honeymoon (and nearly a year afterwards), I didn't have to use any regular vacation! I had over 350 hours total of comp time from that project...

And Flipper, I saw something on MoDOT's website on how their going to replace the Poplar Street bridge, it's supposed to be on new location north (I think) of where the crossing is now.

And have fun with tolls! We're having big political fights here in Texas over tolling roadways. I don't like 'em, but I can understand the need for 'em. But the gas tax is WAAAYYY behind paying for all the improvements needed on the highway system...
Could you teach our workers to be that dedicated? Most of the time what I see is a group of workers standing around doing completely nothing and maybe drinking some drinks from a nearby restaurant! I rarely see them working if they are out there at all!

Still, the planning also seems to take forever! It'll take two years to plan, and over another two years to complete the project!

Please pray for Naomi and her family. They're a homeless family I was trying to help this morning and then this afternoon found that they had stolen my wallet and credit cards. I did cancel everything. I'm not even mad, just really disappointed and a bit worried. I thought they were such a nice family, as did my pastor and the two others at my church! They really need prayers - and to learn that stealing isn't the way to get what you need!

Often when our backs are against the wall and feel that the only way to survive is to break the law. If we weren't so desperate we wouldn't even consider stealing to feed our family. What they need is for you to give them a chance to come clean about what they did. If they do forgive them as Jesus says we should. Don't stop helping them, but help them understand that all they have to do is ask for help and that someone will be there to help them.

Do you know why they are homeless? Is it because of a lost job or because of something else?

It is good that you are only disappointed and not angry it will help you to be empathetic to their situation and not sympathetic. Empathy helps, but sympathy only commiserates.

I have no idea why they are homeless. I can't really do anything now as they came from Texas, were in Lake Charles, and were caught in Lafayette trying to use one of my credit cards.

I was about to bring them to a food pantry, too. So, all I can do now is pray for them. I'm figuring it's most likely that I won't see them again.

We already have one of those in Ladue, silly.

However, we just got a Mills Mall up near St. Charles, and it has an Off Fifth, which is the Saks outlet.
We have a Kmart here in Craig, Colorado. There's a Maurice and hunting and outfitting store. A-a-a-and, we have three thrift/second-hand stores, only one is a charity though. Payless Shoes just pulled out.(My husband says I have enough shoes already. He just doesn't understand. :( )

So, if you want to do some serious shopping, it's a ROAD TRIP! We drive over 150 miles through the Rocky Mountains to Grand Junction or Denver two or three times a year. And we've learned to shop online. :)

Well having never been to St. Charles before and from the sounds of the discussion prior to my interruption I just thought that the next move in progression was Saks. We could go the other direction and digress with a mom and pop hamburger shack or hardware store. :D
Craig is so small, they closed the Burger King!

But that's OK. We have Kentucky Fried Taco Bell. :yum:

:( Sorry to hear about the bad choices made by this family.

:groupray: for the work, the workers and those who are being helped.

 Big At-A-Boy for trying to help.

Do you have a FISH, Love INC, Salvation Army, or other Christ centered charity in your community?

We learned a long time ago that putting people up in your own home was not a good idea. We work with a local motel for up to two nights, another one gives us a good rate for a one week efficiency suit fir families. For singles we pay one week at a local rooming house. We also pay the deposit ($25) and hook ups ($10 to $50) for a Section 8 HUD/CHAFA subsidized apartment for families.

We administer a United Way grant to help with medical needs and an Energy Outreach Colorado grant to help with heating costs. Our little thrift store raises money to help with food, clothing shelter, medical needs and transportation to and from work and health care. We are a totally independent, non-denominational, Christ centered, self-funding charity. We are "Neighbors helping neighbors since 1980".

:sorry: Oops, I'm on my favorite soap box again.

Last words, share information with other help organizations. There are people who live by conning charities. They work their way through the helping hands in a community and then move on. If you call the Baptists and tell them you are helped the Smith and ask them if they have been approached by this familly, they will usually tell you if they have already helped them. That's not always a bad thing. The family may need more help than one church can give.

I think we only have a Salvation Army store and not a place for them to stay. I know where it used to be and perhaps had a place for people to stay at that point, but then they moved and it's just in a little strip mall type place. I don't really know of charities that would be able to give them all they needed. The starting point would've been the Oak Park Food Pantry and then they might've had a list of other charities in the area. For safety reasons for some families, they don't like the information given out in all the public areas - such as, you can find the Women's shelter if you know where it is (that usually means you help your church with the work they do for charities), but you aren't going to find it advertised anywhere for helping abused/homeless women and children in case their husbands would be looking for them.
