It would be fun to work on the new bridge to replace the Poplar Street Bridge! It's supposed to span the whole mighty Mississippi!

However, working on IH-70 or IH-64 (yes, it is IH-XY and NOT I-XY, at least in Texas!!!) in town would be a pain in the rear. Limited ROW, loop ramps, no frontage roads, etc., makes me cringe! But upgrading the portion of IH-70 going towards KC shouldn't be THAT hard (to add a third lane). All you need is about a 44' median. That's all I had to work on for my stretch of IH-35 in Williamson County, and I got 13 miles designed in four months!

Sorry Bridget, Central Texas comes first! My wife and boss won't let me go!
Awww. . .but you're highways are so much better than ours! I swear you don't even have to be looking out your window on a car ride and you know when you've entered Texas!

This post is simply required because it makes it so I have 667 posts! Then, it doesn't really matter anymore, but having one less? In CF? LOL

4 months??!! Wow!

MoDOT is wanting to put it on the ballot for us to vote on making IH-70 (doing it your way) a toll road to raise money for repairs. IH-64 (which us locals call Highway 40, or rather Highway "Farty") to me, is the one that needs something done yesterday. They were stupposed to start this year, but I think it's being moved to 2005 or 2006. I know traffic in that area is going to make Hell look like a child's playground while that's going on, but I'll wait patiently for the benefits. It's bad that it should only be a 15 minute drive from downtown St. Louis to Clayton (St. Louis County Seat), but when I have filing in the afternoon, I have to leave at 3:30 so I can make sure I get there before 5:00.

I don't think they have come up with how they are going to replace Poplar Street - maybe that's why you want to work on it -- HAR!

13 miles in four month? We could definitely use you to at least teach the construction crews here in Louisiana! It took them over TWO YEARS to finish widening a street here called Nelson street, and there's no way it was even NEAR 13 miles! It made it such a mess trying to go anywhere in that area of town, though!

Why do six year olds enjoy tattling on each other so much?
Both are sadistic enough to want to see the other one get punished. Problem is it becomes a vicious cycle that will someday need to be broken. I don't agree with Netgenious2 as it can really be a problem for the family later on if not taken care of now.

Flipper, I was in your neck of the woods last Saturday. My husband wanted to drive out to St. Charles and look around before he turned in the rental car. Prince Charles Mobil Home Park is gone. That's where we lived when we were first married. He brought me to my new home, and just as we turned into the park, the highway was higher than the trailers, I saw a trailer setting on its side. When we got to our new home, I had a beautiful view of the remains of a trailer that had been picked up and spun around on its end, then slammed into the undeveloped part of the park. The remains were not disposed of for a year. What a lovely thing to see every time there was tornado watch! Not!

A lot has changed since 1971.

Oh my gosh! I bet you laugh now.

If you haven't been to St. Charles in a while I'm sure you got quite a shock. I'm in south St. Louis County so I don't get up there very often. Even if it's months between times going there, I still get shocked at all the development. Can you believe they have a Bass Pro Shop now?

We already have one of those in Ladue, silly.

However, we just got a Mills Mall up near St. Charles, and it has an Off Fifth, which is the Saks outlet.
Well having never been to St. Charles before and from the sounds of the discussion prior to my interruption I just thought that the next move in progression was Saks. We could go the other direction and digress with a mom and pop hamburger shack or hardware store. :D

LOL! Nothing wrong with those either. Though I do find it interesting in St. Charles that just down the road from the Casino (with the best buffet in the midwest) is the "Family" Arena - where a lot of big Christian acts play.
Hey Flip,

Well... Specific prognosis, like, she's going to live another 20 years, that sort of thing, they won't say. However, they are inplanting a defibrillator in a few weeks, and she's supposed to be going through some sort of therapy to improve her circulation (5x a week for 6 weeks). The fact is, much of her heart is dead, however, I want to think that if she was completely hopeless, they wouldn't be doing all this. She works 3 days a week, and she was told that she should be able to go back to work. The key to everything now is if she will be able to stay off the cigarettes, and stop drinking the sugar soda (faith in God should be in there somewhere too).

The design took four months (sorry if I was unclear!). Even we need help when it comes to some contractors, though... On two of my big projects, the contractors are pretty small and have gone DEEP into liquidated damages, and of course, the state (me and others!) gets blamed...

For that IH-35 project, in January of 2000 alone, I worked 122 hours of overtime (straight time, not time and a half!), but when it came time for my wedding/honeymoon (and nearly a year afterwards), I didn't have to use any regular vacation! I had over 350 hours total of comp time from that project...

And Flipper, I saw something on MoDOT's website on how their going to replace the Poplar Street bridge, it's supposed to be on new location north (I think) of where the crossing is now.

And have fun with tolls! We're having big political fights here in Texas over tolling roadways. I don't like 'em, but I can understand the need for 'em. But the gas tax is WAAAYYY behind paying for all the improvements needed on the highway system...
