I took the quiz. A classic piece of papist propaganda. It's Luther quotes out of context and w/o qualifiers. What is ironic is that in her ignorance, she provided two or even three correct answers to most of the questions.

We need to submit a quiz of our own!

A Christian truth quiz...

Purgatory is...

A) a place where man pays a penalty for his sin.

B) a false doctrine that is not supported by Holy Scripture.

Mary...

A) is our Co-Redemptress.

B) was without sin and grants to us, her Mercy.

C) the Mother of God. Esteemed for the chosen role she played in God's plan of salvation, but still a lowly sinner that Christ died for.

The Catholic Church is...

A) located in Rome and headed by the Pope.

B) the universal church of believers in Christ. This faith is truely proclaimed in the Lutheran Confessions.

The Pope is...

A) infallible.

B) God on earth.

C) mere sinful man. He stands in the stead of Christ only when he confesses the truth of the Gospel found in Holy Scripture.

Anymore suggestions?

Pax Christi,

ChiRho

I know you mean well with this question but it does have two answers according to the BoC. Both B and C are valid answers, the Apology of the Augsburg Confession states that they grant saints pray for us after passing on. So it is quite a valid argument to say she prays for us to Christ, of course this doesn't mean we should pray to her, but the confessions do say that she does pray for us. (Apology of the AC, Invocation of Saints)

I would like also to recomend we keep questions in the realm of facts and not opinions, that way our quiz would not be challenged on the ground of being negative opinion. One cannot challenge facts.

How about something about the Spanish Inquisitions, Pope Leo X and his naked boys, etc.?

Especially with the upercase C. Also having Lutheran in an answer opens a question up to speculation, while we might think it is true, I doubt the moderators here would.

B is not a valid answer because of the first part, we absolutely deny that she was sinless. The second part needs to be revised, since we do admit that the saints may vary well pray for the Church in general, in heaven.

Hello all.
Is BoC the same as B.C.? Or what is it?
ELCA what's this too?
Am I allowed to post on here or what?
Hi Searching...

The BoC means "Book Of Concord" - www.bookofconcord.org it is the Lutheran Confessions.

ELCA is one of the Lutheran church bodies. It stands for Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Others you may see mentioned are the LC-MS (Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod), WELS (Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod), and ELS (Evangelical Lutheran Synod)

Oh, and yes you can post here, you are asking questions and not debating... welcome!

I remember back when I was a member at an ELCA church in the Twin Cities. I had just told the Associate Pastor that I had bought a Book of Concord and he said "Good luck understanding it." I thought he might want to open a channel of discussion on what was in it, but I gathered from his expression and comment that he didn't put much importance in it.

 That is so wrong for so many reasons...

:sigh:
This church had been going the way of the Social Gospel for quite a while. The Senior Pastor would do sermons on Homosexuality and Pornography, but there was no distinction of Law and Gospel in his message. Just that we ought to have compassion for those involved in those sins who are trying to get out. My wife really had a problem with the one on Pornography as that is a problem I myself have had in the past (and still struggle with in some respects).

I have since left that church when we moved to a different part of town and have become a member of an LCMS church to which I know that they follow they confessions seriously. The problem is that my wife does not come from a Lutheran background. She comes from southern Bible/Baptist churches. She sees the confessions and closed communion as a barrier to her to worship.

I have used the BoC more here than anywhere else. It is great for apologetic debates. I have also had some good conversations with some LCMS pastors in the last few months.

My wife shares the same background Scott. She had the same hangups as your wife. I personally appreciate being able to read what exactly my church believes, teaches, and confesses, having come from a learn-as-you-go cult. Surprisingly my wife had more trouble with close Communion, then she did with Real Presence, I had figured it would have been the other way around.

What I found funny was, the less I pushed her, the less she resisted and was more open to learn.
