  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Come to think of it, it was something along the lines of The Crazy Things Fundamentalists Say. You might google it and come up with something.

Lol, seems fitting.

I just came across this today. I'm so curious!

"Poe's law is an adage of Internet culture stating that, without a clear indicator of the author's intent, it is impossible to create a parody of extreme views so obviously exaggerated that it cannot be mistaken by some readers for a sincere by some readers for an expression of the views being parodied.

Poe's law - Wikipedia

Poe’s Law is named after Nathan Poe, an agnostic user on the message board Christian Forums who posted in 2005: “POES LAW: Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is uttrerly [sic] impossible to parody a Creationist in such a way that someone wont mistake for the genuine article.” In a thread debating creationism, Poe wrote this in response to a comment: “Good thing you included the winky. Otherwise people might think you are serious.

Poe’s Law - Dictionary.com

POE'S LAW:

Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is uttrerly impossible to parody a Creationist in such a way that someone won't mistake for the genuine article."

Big contradictions in the evolution theory

I'm so curious! If you were here then, would you please say more? Is this a thing? What does this say about Creationists?
I'm curious why he stopped at Creationists --wink, wink.

If I remember correctly, he had a board as well. He took the funniest posts from CF and posted them on his board. I think that’s what started the RAR videos.

Awesome. Do you have a link?

Was it "Fundies Say The Darndest Things"? (FSTDT dot com) It's still up, by the way. Can't link it because of naughty words.

It refers to a subset of Creationists who are Young Earth Creationists who are told
which "literal" beliefs to hold to be a "real" believer. And they are also instructed
that "Evolution" is the enemy trying to destroy their faith. They are not Flat Earthers
as a rule.

People can also be considered "a Poe" if they intentionally take an opposing view and it seems illogical. Or if anybody takes a ridiculous stand, you might consider that they are just faking it to make the other side look bad. Especially if their post count is low. All low post count people are suspect.

Moral Orel posted the correct name of the website... but this has nothing to do with Nathan Poe.
The guy you are talking about was called "Allan", known here and elsewhere as "WinAce". He died in 2005 at the age of 20 from cystic fibrosis, after a long and exhausting battle with the US health system as much as with his illness.

Nathan Poe is quite well, as far as I know.

It’s a very real and hilarious thing. It shows that there is nearly nothing that a satirist can state in the guise fundamentalist religious person that will not be taken as face value by other fundamentalist.

There are parody site all over the net that run on Poe’s Law.

Crikey. I did not know that Poe’s Law came for CF.

RAOFL!

Yes he passed on in the prime of life. It was very sad. You know, he was hurting and angry but even in the midst of it, he was a very nice guy. He came here and made friends even if he disagreed. God bless him.
I think you're confusing Nathan Poe with someone else. I'm struggling to remember his name. Something with Ace in it. Winace? Our beloved WinAce is gone..

@public hermit, I believe the website is this one: FSTDT

ETA: I see several people beat me to it.

Yes I am. Yes it was Ace. Been so long. I thought they took his board down though. Going to have to go back and read it for a few giggles.

Thanks for starting this thread @public hermit. It’s been an interesting discussion. Sorry for the misinformation on my part. I’ve slept since then. ;)
