  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Those were the days when this place was vibrant.
It has gone through a lot of changes - and stayed the same in many other things.

Strange how time flows. It's weird to imagine that there are adult people posting here who weren't even born when I registered.

Well I was born in 72 so it is a strange feeling but nice to know it continues even if in a lesser form than it was previously.

I just came across this today. I'm so curious!

"Poe's law is an adage of Internet culture stating that, without a clear indicator of the author's intent, it is impossible to create a parody of extreme views so obviously exaggerated that it cannot be mistaken by some readers for a sincere by some readers for an expression of the views being parodied.

Poe's law - Wikipedia

Poe’s Law is named after Nathan Poe, an agnostic user on the message board Christian Forums who posted in 2005: “POES LAW: Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is uttrerly [sic] impossible to parody a Creationist in such a way that someone wont mistake for the genuine article.” In a thread debating creationism, Poe wrote this in response to a comment: “Good thing you included the winky. Otherwise people might think you are serious.

Poe’s Law - Dictionary.com

POE'S LAW:

Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is uttrerly impossible to parody a Creationist in such a way that someone won't mistake for the genuine article."

Big contradictions in the evolution theory

I'm so curious! If you were here then, would you please say more? Is this a thing? What does this say about Creationists?

Thanks for the research here, PH! I've heard of Poe's Law only in brief passing elsewhere. (Maybe it was while I did a short stint a few years ago on that other website ... ?) I don't remember, and I didn't really look into it at the time, but what is being shared here in this thread makes sense and in a way emphasizes the relevance of the field of Hermeneutics.

Very interesting!

It refers to a subset of Creationists who are Young Earth Creationists who are told
which "literal" beliefs to hold to be a "real" believer. And they are also instructed
that "Evolution" is the enemy trying to destroy their faith. They are not Flat Earthers
as a rule.
I never met any YEC's that were flat earthers. I was a YEC until I went to college and took actual Science and Religion courses.
