  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pluto May Become A Planet Again

Why doesn't he just bring the scientists from 4004 BCE to the present and show them what happened?

Because they, presumably, got it right. I mean, with the MINOR exception that the writer of Genesis would probably have thought that the earth was actually only a few years old...since the author of Genesis didn't bother to mention "Embedded Age" we will assume that the author was wrong to forget to put that in there. Oh sure, you're probably saying "But doesn't that call into question either the validity of Genesis or the veracity of the writer in a kind of standoff?" And the answer is: "Take a hike".

Or

Why doesn't he just clear up Pluto's
orbital path?

Because that's where God might have stored a lot of the mess from the Noachian Flood. I heard that there's some holy man who has determined that the waters from the Flood may be on Neptune. I hope that he can send a probe there before we decide to entirely dismantle all of science!

Fred's DNA, not his size, is what determines if he is Fred Smith or Fred Brown.

Not really. If your last name is Smith and you have a child named Fred, you can still change his last name to Brown.

Here's something that will blow your mind. I know a Kylie that was born a Justin. Her DNA never changed.

So what DNA determines if Pluto is a planet or asteroid? If we go by spectrum, it would be called a star - it's not - only because it moves. Otherwise it can not be distinguished by spectrum from the background stars.

By moons orbiting them? Many large asteroids have bodies orbiting them.

Cleared orbits is a relatively good starting point, since that is the standard criteria already.

Because usually, only objects of a certain size - mass - can clear their orbits of debris. Hence asteroids in the asteroid belt would fail this criteria.

Not to mention it's always been a planet and will always be a planet to the vast majority - regardless if science or anyone agrees or not.

And since we have dwarf stars and giant stars, should we not have giant planets and dwarf planets as well? The debate is endless. :)

And anyway Pluto can't even clear its own orbit as it crosses inside Neptune.....

That's where the flip around on what does "clear it's own orbit" really mean if Neptune hasn't cleared out Pluto. The new planet definition does seem a bit off but I'm not personally finding it sufficiently lacking that we need to say Pluto is a planet.

Then how do you determine what a planet is if not by its size? What other way is there? (Other than having cleared its orbit)
hydrostatic equilibrium

Or maybe... do I even dare ask... what scripture tells you that God made 9 planets?

I'm curious about that one too. His assumption is that God created 9 planets. I wonder where he got that from. My guess is, it's something he was taught from early childhood, and it's been thoroughly ingrained into every fiber of his being. And, just like all the other indoctrinations he's gone through, he's dug in strong, protecting it, and ain't letting nothing sway him, no matter what.

Hold strong, AV. Hold strong.

It would be funny, if it wasn't so pathetic.

AV, are you as upset about the fact that reptiles are no longer considered a valid classification, as you are about Pluto's status?

Or did you not know about reptiles' fall from grace? If not, I feel like I would had I just told a kid that Santa does not exist :p

No, sir.

You do know that Behemoth had a navel, don't you?

Job 40:15 Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
Job 40:16 Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.

A dinosaur with a navel!? Stop the presses!
