This must be stopped. Please protest loudly

This has been posted in OBOB but it is something ALL Christians need to be protesting about.

Time to strongly object as well...

Oh my gosh--I can't BELEIVE this was allowed to be on television. (I WILL NOT repeat what was said, but any interested can go to the website and read the news release.) I received this today:

Please pray for a conversion of heart for Denis Leary, the staff, writers for Comedy Central

and for all those who persecute Christians --Jesus and His Church.

Here is the link.

Please read and let your feelings known to the makers at the e mail address at the bottom of the article

Sorry, Andy.... I don't find this offensive. Apart from the language used, it's not a new concept or belief.

I can accept that you find it offensive, no worries. I won't be protesting it, though.

Why should he be allowed to attack Christianity in this way when he clearly would not be allowed to do the same to the Muslim religion?

Clearly? Where is it clear? I don't see why he wouldn't be allowed to say, "And this Muhammed guy... divine? What a load of ****! He was banging girls way under the age of consent. And what were they smoking? Djinns, angels?" etc... except that a number of Muslims would probably complain, as a number of christians are complaining about the comments on christianity.

Had he said that he would have been accused of incitement to religious hatred, which in this country at least, will shortlky be illegal. And it would be a lot more than just a few Muslims who complained. It would be tens of thousands.

Denegrading the Muslim or Jewish faith is a no no, but Christianity, well tha's fair game.

I doubt that it could EVER be classified as incitement to religious hatred... as incitement surely requires not only a statement against a faith, but a statement likely to cause hatred in listeners, toward the group who hold those beliefs. However... I'm aware that the UK laws on this differ from the Australian laws, so maybe I'm incorrect on this point. Will the UK laws protect minority cultural groups rather than religious groups?

I didn't say 'a few', I said 'a number'! But what exactly is the point? That because Muslims would complain, so should we? Or that they care more about the public image of their religion? I'm not seeing why this is relevant (yet).

I think they're all equally bad.

The point being that Muslims are far more prepared to stand up and defend their faith than we are ours. And because of this, people like Leary are not so quick to lay into the Islamic faith.

Absolutely. So if it would not be permitted to attack other faiths in this way, why is it seen as OK to do so to Christianity.

Do Blasphemy laws no longer exist?

I have to agree with ITF, I don't find this offensive, besides some of the language used. I've heard worse jokes and language from some of my youth group kids. Maybe Australians are just used to laughing at ourselves, who knows.

To raise another point, if an Irishman made jokes about his country and people, would everyone be as offended? If a Catholic made similar jokes without such vulgar language, would people be offended?

The comic admits in that quote to being Catholic, and then pokes fun at himself and his religion. Comedians have been doing that for years. I never heard any of this when Rowan Atkinson or Dave Allen did similar jokes. And I think some of Dave Allen's were actually worse!
