  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

People I need your help..I dont feel really good...I was really optimistic in my life and I was really happy all the time.. Recently, I started "correcting" myself , because I thought that the sins I did, made me feel the opposite: Feel awful, although I have a wonderful relationship and all things are going well for me.. Though, I have an unexplained feeling of sadness and negative thinking...Can you please pray for me, so as to find my way? (and God's way also). I will be really grateful to any answer...Thanks a lot!

P.S. AmI too selfish to ask you to pray for me?

Of course we'll pray for you! Striving to please God is hard for our flesh nature. Orthodoxy is an ascetic faith. We are constantly at battle with our passions. When we obey our passions, our flesh nature actually likes it, so we feel good momentarily. However, our soul suffers the consequence of us trying to please ourselves instead of God. When we suffer for God (one way we suffer is through our own personal struggles with trying to resist temptation), our flesh hates it because it's uncomfortable, but for our soul it is like exercise to the body; it strengthens it.

I hope I haven't confused you or anything. Dying to self is a painful thing, but we reap salvation for it.

Oh thanks! Thanks! Thanks! I need your prayers...because I want to give strength to my soul...it needs some strength...Every day I read some parts of the Holy Bible and after that I pray for me and my girlfriend (I know that we are not married yet but I love her so I want her protected by any evil power!)... I need to be optimistic again! It will help me to be a good Christian too! Thanks again! God bless you! You are very kind persons!

Our society tells us that we are supposed to be happy all the time and that something is wrong with us if we aren't. That's not what our Bible or our Church tell us. Read the Beatitudes: Blessed are the poor in spirit, Blessed are those who mourn, Blessed are the meek, etc. Nowhere does He say "Blessed are the perky." Also, read Psalm 51 (this is verse 17): "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise."

I know exactly how you feel and you most certainly have my prayers.

It is not selfish at all! I used to always have problems asking people to pray for me, but I came to a point where I realized that I simply couldn't do it alone. I need prayers... and my life has been so much more fulfilling ever since then. It's so different than I used to be, and my former self is cringing, but I believe in the power of personal prayer!

God love you and be with you!!!

In IC XC,
Marjorie

P.S. I find the psalms helpful for when I am feeling depressed, especially Psalm 42 (Psalm 41 Septuagint), which is probably my favorite psalm.

As it says in the liturgy, "..and with your spirit"

First things first; If you have a priest talk to him, it's his calling and his responsibility as an undershepherd to care for your soul.

Second: There is an enemy of souls,. who will do everything in his power to either destroy, or hamper the growth of a soul in its spiritual life, including using self-condemnation.

Third: PRAY, PRAISE, PRAY, PRAISE, PRAY, and when by the mercy and grace of God you have the victory, keep on praying and praising God for His mercy.

Fourth: You've already done this, asking people to pray for you!

Manick, maybe it would help to make an appointment with your Father Confessor and do confession. I always feel much better after doing confession and getting all the sin out in the open and being absolved of it. Knowing that I'm forgiven and have a lot of poison out of my system makes me feel so much better. Also, talk to him about your depression. I'm sure he can help you. Don't try to struggle with all this on your own. I suffer from depression myself, and knowing that I can tell my priest everything really helps more than I can ever say.

Awww man! Exactly. The most concise advice you can hope for Manick. Confession! It is one of the greatest blessings of the Church! If you don't have a priest to whom you regularly confess, go to a monk who has a good reputation for confession in your town. I am assuming youa re in Greece so there must be monasteries nearby. Otherwise, go to a priest in town.

God bless you Manick,

John

No one is saved alone :). We are commanded to pray for one another so it helps to know when one of the church has particular need for prayer. Don't forget that we have a great cloud of witnesses, the saints, interceeding for us before the throne. Ask for their prayers too Are you named after a saint? Particularly ask for his intercessory prayers

John.
