  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

You have to be pretty darn healthy to run 14 miles. There are people out there (probably even people on this forum) that are in excellent shape, excellent health, and still couldn't run 14 miles. If you can do that I wouldn't worry one bit about being 5'7" and 145. How many of your "beanpole" freinds can run 14 miles? You may very well be healthier then they are.

no kidding!

losing weight is very simple if you watch some basic stuff:
- six small meals a day instead of 3 big ones.

- excercising with weights (it's the muscles who burn calories, will also avoid the yoyo-effect)

- do cardio training 3-4 times a week in the morning right after you get up before you eat anything at a moderate pace (heart rate around 130-135)

- avoid any simple sugars and white flour procucts, eat whole wheat products instead

- stop eating candy, chocolate, icecream, potatochips and unhealthy stuff like that, it does NO good for your body.

If you want I could send you a diet plan and also an excercising plan, since I live like this myself :)

Wow, I went away for vacation and came back to find many responses! Thank yall so much for your thoughts and encouragement! Cryotank, I would love for you to send me more information on this, my email is laurenbailey07@yahoo.com or just pm it to me. Thanks for the advice about the journal illuminite, I will deffintantly try to keep one. Hiker and krissanne, thanks, that made me feel a lot better. To everyone who said that starvation was stupid, thanks for your input. I see how it's wrong now, I thought it was the easiest way out but from yall's description it doesn't look like that. Again thanks for everyone's input!

I am going to try and stop eating so much sugar, I don't drink coke (soda) but all water now, I am still really struggling to change my diet. Dang american junk food, why does all the fatting food have to taste so good and the good stuff taste so bad?? What kind of vegg. and fruits should I eat, stuff that's not to strong but something that I can adjust to. Thanks for everything everyone!

Hey no prob! I'll send you the plan tonite when I get home. Living on a diet is a bit tough at first but once you get used to it, it's fine and you feel a lot better! It's also a mental thing... be aware of what you eat, read labels of the food you buy and stuff like that. Surely we as Christians are not supposed to be too much focused on our body, but I don't think that Jesus wants us to neglect our bodies and but all kinda cr*p in there :)

Lauren,

I don't think you need to "go on a diet." What would be helpful (for all Americans!) is to go to www.whfoods.com (World's Healthiest Foods) and eat any of those foods in pretty much any amount you want (since you're young and active, still growing). There's recipes, nutritional information, and tips on preparing the food. Don't ever starve yourself! Doing that only makes your body crave the food that's not good for you (fast food, sweets, etc.). All the food on that website above was created by God for us to use and nourish our bodies, while the manmade processed food is harmful to our bodies. That's the way I think about it, and it helps me to make healthier choices.

God bless,
Kristen

Thanks Kristen! That's good advice, I don't know if I could do that though. I really dislike many of those foods. I might start out on a diet and change my taste buds slower, eat healthier. That is understandable, your view of food. Thanks for the advice, I'll be sure to look up that site!!
Thanks again,
Lauren

i just wanted to say (though u may already be doing this) dont do a whole lot at once. If u do drink pop on a regular basis, and just switched to water, id wait for at least like three months or more to start on the next part of changing ur diet. It might seem like a long time but if u try to do it all at once u could easily overwhelm urself and want to give up on the diet. One change at a time is plenty, and if its something kinda big, like pop to water for example, it can have big results even though its only one thing, and it takes time to get used to a new diet. A person could smoke, eat a lot of junk food, not exercise, watch too much tv, not be getting enough dairy or not be getting the vitamins they need, and would only have to work on one to have quite large results. Quitting smoking alone could add years to their life. So, take ur time, cause the goal of a healthy diet is for it to last a lifetime. Oh, and if u dont already, i would suggest looking into a multivitamin. Most people i think dont realize that they are probably not getting enough of the stuff that they need. If u look at ur diet, are u really getting ur daily values of calcium, Vitamins A,C,B's,D,E and the other stuff u need. I was suprised at how little i got from my diet. Just something to think about.

if you're looking to lose weight though I can tell you a good way that works. a few years back i had this neighbor. he and his entire family were obese. they had huge bellies especially. i would guess he was 5'6" 200 pounds and needed to weigh 130 for good health. so i didn't see him for about a year maybe less... one day i saw him outside playing basketball and i couldnt believe it, at first i did not recognize him at all it took like 30 seconds lol. he was skinny! weighing his ideal weight! i seriously thought he would go his whole life obese. my sister asking him how he lost weight.

all he said was "football and eating lots of salad". first there's football: not at all the same as exercising because it gives so much more motivation its better than even the funnest exercises. so i suggest you get yourself involved in a sport that you like. i like girls who play sports ;). and if you like to jump rope do it! i thouroughly enjoy jump rope myself, its great for your health (not considering weight which it obviously helps also).

the the salad part. salads are really healthy, they'll get you looking good (your skin especially) and clean your insides. they have some important nutrients but mostly they have fiber and purified water in them. you should get some salads that have some natural sugar in them, like carrots lettuce tomato & brussel sprouts (i dont care what you say brussel sprouts taste good!). but even if you use dressing.. i doubt the guy im talking about ate salad without dressing and he had very dramatic results for something that doesn't harm your system.

more important than the above is our spiritual condition and mental health. seek first the kingdom of God and all these things will be given to you as well!

besides your relationship with God make sure you're not idle with your time (eating the bread of idleness), even though it seems like there's not much stuff to do sometimes if you have a good attitude and stuff then you could even be doing nothing (and trust me you'll find a lot more stuff and live life more 'naturally (just going along and finding productive stuff) if you keep your mind on good things) and be better off than being busy in the wrong mindset.

so when you have good mental health and spiritual health things fall into place. you're not going to be waiting to lose weight as much, counting the days go by, but instead you'll be enjoying it (even if you think you're fat right now lol). even if you only had to wait one week to get to the weight you want to achieve ("ideal"), itd seem like an awful long time if you're really concerned with it.

And if you have something like depression stress or anxiety you might want to find out why and overcome it. A lot of people struggle with that stuff and it's horrible for physical health you can be sleeping eating drinking exercising and everything physical you need but if you are stressed it would be better to not have those things and not be stressed. those things are your enemies and they really "wear a person's heart down" but "a good word cheer him/her up" ;) yeah so you can talk with me about that. because i had depression for about 15 years (not anymore though)
