I don't dance because it does something for me I dance because it does somethign for God. The bible tells us to dance before the lord. So I do!! Also it is just the same as if I would win the lottery. When I get sooo excited about something I dance. It just so happens that I get excited about Jesus easily.

I'm not one for an excessive amount of dancing, but I do sing before the Lord, both in church service and alone. Just make sure you have the correct motivation; do not do what you do because of the way it makes you feel, but because you love God.

I'm Catholic, so when I went to my first Protestant service, you can be sure I was quite confused. People were dressed not in "church" clothes I had become accostumed to but regular clothes. People were dancing and I must admit my first thought was "are they dancing to show other people how close they are with God"? Then of course after getting involved in some prayer/worship teams I understand how sometimes music will just make you do nothing but want to go nuts for God. Anyone a fan of the song Undignified by Matt Redmond? Great song for those who love to dance.

Dear Godsgirl18,

Thatz a nice and important question.

Dancing has been allowed as part of worship basing on the scripture that King David danced before the Ark of God in the Old Testament. There is however no record of people dancing before the Lord in worship in the New Testament.

The Christians who dance during the Praise & Worship moments are doing this basing on King David's example.

Dancing may help in venting our happy emotions thru actions. It is a kind of release.

Apart from that, IMHO there is not much speciality in dancing. One might as well sing the Praise & Worship Songs in an understanding and meaningful way even allowing tears to fall from the eyes as the Songs speak to our hearts. We can also clap and lift our hands in devotion.

Dancing before the Lord is a very personal thing. And one should be careful in this area. Coz God is more interested in Truth. Also, The Bible says that "God is a Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in Truth and in Spirit."

Hope that helps. Sorry, if i have spoken bluntly.

May the Lord bless you always,
Vincent :)

I'm afraid I don't dance either.

I have been in services where dancing has taken place and I have fiound that it does NOT help to further my relationship with God, it does NOT make me feel free and it certainly does NOT give me a tingly feeling inside!!

It does, however, give me an uneasy feeling inside and tends to detract from my sense of worship.

Please accept that these are my own personal feelings (for whcih you asked) and are not meant as a condemnation of dancing in general

Regards

Ebenezer

P.S. It's interesting reading the above posts how it seems that the ladies are all in favour and the men against!

I'm not sure if it should really be called "dancing" as there's little that's rhythmic or artistic about it, but I do find myself moving around, jumping up and down, when singing high energy type songs. I find nothing wrong with worshiping with my whole body and not just my voice. I'm not sure about what I "feel" other than that it seems a natural way of expressing joy to God. For me, it's no different than kneeling or lowering my head into my hands when expressing other emotions, such as reverence or awe or humility, in giving worship to God.

I guess it's not really an issue of what it does for me. Rather, it's part of giving my whole self to God in worship.
