An organization calling itself Center for Medical Progress recently release a video supposedly showing a Planned Parenthood official discussing prices for the illegal sale of fetal tissue. After investigation it turned out that the video was deceptively edited. The fact is that a few Planned Parenthoods will donate tissues with consent in compliance with the law. Most Planned Parenthoods do not.

So, why the lie? Is stopping abortion so important that it is necessary to knowingly distort the facts? Why not tell the truth?

Regardless of the personal opinion concerning abortion, the fact is it is legal in the United States.

The means exercised by actors so as to slander PP and that being somehow approved by those who esteem ethical values is incongruous to the claim of God and family values.
The tissues that result from an abortion, were they not used in medical research to further the livings medical treatment sphere, would otherwise be discarded as medical waste. Garbage.
Deposited into red plastic bags and labeled as such so as to end up incinerated.

If I am pro-life I am most certainly consistent.

I'm pro-life and I am sick of having that questioned because I can see these videos for the engineered beat up they so clearly are.

I've said elsewhere, also, that, although any abortion is terrible, IMHO, the remains being used for medical research is surely preferable to them being burned as rubbish.

And it's edge cases like that which lead me to reject Kant's philosophy outright. It cannot be that in the situation where a nazi stormtrooper has demanded to know if my family is hiding jews, the most moral outcome is the one that leads to the murder of innocents, the betrayal of my family, and possibly my own death.

Again, it's a long time since I've studied it, but I believe Kant's "most moral outcome" in such a situation is to resist the Stormtrooper without lying.

Either way, I'm not arguing for it, just making a point.

Thanks for the link. I hadn't heard that. It doesn't offer much in the way of details but I'm sure those are to follow. There's much more to come so I have to wonder how they can conclude something so quickly. Usually these investigations take much longer. I'll see what I can find on it.

Turns out this just has to do with investigation in Indiana and PP in Indiana doesn't deal with fetal tissue donations.

From the AP:

The Indiana Department of Health said in a statement Thursday that an investigation found no evidence of any laws being broken. Health department inspectors investigated the Indiana facilities on July 21.

Letters from the health department to the three Indiana facilities dated Tuesday and released to the media by Planned Parenthood said the agency had completed its investigation into the Planned Parenthood facilities that perform abortions in Indiana. The letters said the agency was “unable to find any non-compliance with state regulations. Therefore, no deficiencies were cited.” The letters say the complaint is closed.

The state has the authority to license and regulate abortion clinics and to inspect them, the Health Department said. Federal law prohibits the buying and selling of human body parts or trafficking in tissue from an aborted fetus.

“We are pleased this unfounded complaint is resolved,” said Betty Cockrum, president of Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky.

She said the Indiana facilities don’t participate in tissue donations.

Actually, only one more -- since the state investigation has already cleared PP of any wrongdoing, all that remains is a possible federal investigation... and that's only going to happen if the Fed doesn't trust the State of Indiana to do its job right.

Because they're not -- the parts are donated, which is perfectly legal, and the donor organization (PP) is legally entitled to be compensated for storage and transport charges. The parts themselves are never sold.

I agree that it's important to view the entire unedited video in order to come to an honest conclusion. Indiana was not found to violate the law but they don't have anything to do with donated fetal body parts. That's an important distinction. It's not like they were following proper procedures and obeying the law regarding tissue donations. Remember that it was the president of Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky who said that, "...the Indiana facilities don’t participate in tissue donations."

Clearly some PP facilities do participate in tissue donations and it's those institutions that matter. Just because Indiana is found to be in compliance of the law doesn't equate to "there is no problem anywhere." Surely you understand this fact.
