I agree with you there. But, in the context that the sermon was preached in our church. . . The other thing is, they are already letting some Arminians into the church. Also, the membership requirements seem to be slipping some. Many of us were scared that if we approved this that something greater might come later.

If I were to join my grandparents OPC church (which I love attending), the I would agree to have my children baptized as a courtesty to their beliefs (though I would have them be baptized again when/if they ever have a credible profession of faith).

I've never heard of anyone in my paedobaptizin' church getting excommunicated for refusing to baptize their babies. if you decided to have the kiddies sprinkled as a show of respect fo' your gran'p's, well that'd be the weirdest reason i ever heard of to baptize a wee one. ;)

Amazing how dismal the selection is at the library....the bookstore...even the Christian bookstore.......so sad....:sigh:

Not to go off topic, but sadly enough many Christian bookstores are more interested in self help books, fiction, church growth, marketing God, and selling trinkets than offering good, sound theology.

One of the local Christian stores in my area doesn't have a theology section at all. Another has 12-16 linear feet devoted to theology - but row upon row of the above mentioned stuff.

I was baptized as an infant. As an adult I belong to a reformed baptist church (was, in fact, a founding member). David and I discussed baptism at length at the time the church was started and I applied for membership. I supported believer baptism before I knew such an animal existed. However, when I joined Providence RBC I felt strongly that to be baptized as an adult would be a slap to my parents who faithfully had me baptized as an infant and faithfully raised me in the church. David respected that belief. Three years ago - about a year after my mother's death - I chose to be baptized as an adult (by immersion). I feel that it was an act of obedience to God, my Abba Father. To be perfectly honest, I think most of the church members assumed I had been baptized as an older believer and were a little surprised that Sunday.

By our constitution requirement for membership includes a credible profession of faith in Jesus the Christ and Scriptural baptism (upon profession of faith). That said, there may well be other church members who were baptized as infants and have not been baptized as adults, I don't know. I do know that I'm not the only member who has been baptized twice.

the only Biblical precedent for baptizing the same persom twice was those who only had John's baptism & Cumberland Valley Bible Bookstore is a better resource than the local Christian bookstore, good Reformed theology books, dirt cheap.

ok, back to Piper.

I only said that if I were to join their church (which I would not since I have a Reformed Baptist church) then I would show respect for the doctrines that they hold dear. BTW My grandparents live in another state and, as I keep telling them, they are really Reformed Baptists in and Ortodox Presbyterian church ;). Therefore, were I to join the membership of their church the baptisms would not be out of respect to my grandparents but to the "rules" of the church for the sake of their unity. But, I AM NOT JOINING MY GRANDPARENT'S CHURCH! Just thought that I'd clarify.

that was pretty darn cute! I could definately relate(with the whole mega mall/gehanna reference too!!).

The sad thing is, I've gone into the local christian bookstore several times thinking I'd find something decent in there-- will I ever learn???

That was great, thanks so much for sharing. :amen:

He's right - I've had better luck at a local "general" bookstore. Sadly enough, the addition of Boarders and Barnes & Noble have put my locally owned favorite out of business.:sigh:
