My wife and i just started with a 'pilates for dummies' video. We really like it. It really gets your muscles working and after the first workout we thought we'd be really sore the next day. But suprisingly we weren't, we actually felt really good.
I have the same video! it works!

I have done them only 3 times and noticed a difference mainly in my stomach and my posture. I do feel longer too. Just with those results so far, I am recommending the videos out to friends.

Great investment so far. ShyAngel, go for it!

At the risk of sounding like an infomercial...I really like the Winsor one vs. one I got from Walmart. I have noticed a big difference.

Hey Saint!

I started Pilates a little more than a year ago at my gym, mostly because my chiropractors said it was the best thing I could do for my back.

At first I couldn't do a lot of the one hour routine. I would try, and then collapse. Now however, I can do almost every exercise they present. It's amazing how much more limber I am!

As for my chiropractors: One of them complained that my back was getting so strong that it was becoming a challenge to adjust me. Hurray! (He encouraged me to keep going, though.)

An unexpected development that I know is due to Pilates is that despite having six kids I now have a flat tummy and "washboard" abs. It's amazing.

Keep going--you'll be so happy you did!

Good afternoon,
I'm new here and am considered by the medical community to be obese. I want to take better care of my health for myself, my wife and my kids. I need to lose 50 lbs (25% of my weight), but would be content to just get a better figure and less weight loss. I need more energy and am trying to give up carbonated beverages. I've had only 20 oz of Pepsi today and have a whopper of a headache. Anyway, I'm consider either yoga or pilates and am looking for the Pilates' discussion insight on it. Any advice?

Thank you and bless all of you!

iluvmywyf, Pilates is wonderful for toning. I don't think that you are going to find that is going to help you take off pounds. You're really going to have to focus on your diet for that. Have you looked into the Atkins diet. My husband lost 50 pounds on it and has kept it off. He is so much healthier and has much more energy. It's not just a weight loss fad diet. It really is a way of eating for a life time.

If you are relatively inactive, you will find that Pilates is a great workout to start with because it is slow paced. Some say that it is too boring for them but I love it. I do Winsor Pilates. You start out with a twenty minute workout.

iluvmywyf, I've done them the Winsor 20 minute for about a month and love it. I recomend it highly. I can keep up with the video, and it's strengthening my weak muscles to help balance my overall strenght....go for it.

You're welcome! I really believe that Pilates is an awesome routine. I have been doing it for about a year and a half now. It has really made a difference not only in my abs area, but in my back, shoulders and legs as well.

Another benefit most people don't realize: Pilates is great for toning that area under the chin. No double chin for me!
