  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Before I was saved I was hanging out in bars some and I had a hat that said: "I'm not feeling my self tonight....mind if I feel you?"
(never did work) lol

and would never think about trying it again

okay, here is a weird one from the ancient late 1980's
I met a girl at a party who was dating someone else and after our conversation I told her that if she ever broke up with so and so to give me a call and that i'd love to take her out....she remembered that...about five months later I got the call and off to the dinner date i went.

How about this one...

*Guy walks confidently up to a pretty girl* Excuse me, would you be willing to help me overcome a fear I have?

"...ok, what is it?"

"I have a fear of talking to beautiful young ladies and the best way to overcome the fear is to practice."

Good conversation hopefully ensues.

This seems to walk the line between being smooth and being pathetically silly. Still, it came to mind today and I thought it was at least clever.

hmmm, those are funny...lol ^_^

How 'bout just being a gentleman though?

*Laugh* Care to elaborate?

As far as I understood, the entire concept of "pickup lines" was to get a girls attention so that I could be a gentleman. It seems to me that otherwise I can "just be a gentleman" all I want from some distance (eg open doors for people, etc) and still never make a connection with anyone. I imagine that others share this sentiment. "Hello" also seems a bit bland and is easy to shrug off as a trivial gesture.

The question in my mind is not how to be a gentleman but rather how to "pickup" the opportunity to present myself as one.

Maybe I should make myself a T-shirt that says "Single Christian Gentleman" or maybe I can start distributing "Gentleman waif" and "Lady waif" T-shirts for all the dateless waifs running around ;)

Has anyone here seen "50 First Dates"? I saw it recently (highly recommended) and it presented a unique story about one guy's stubborn attempts to come up with new pickup lines/acts everyday to win a girl who has no shortterm memory. Advantage: you can screw up as many times as you want and there is still tomorrow. Disadvantage: if you do something really great one day, you may not be able to recreate it the next. Conclusion: Due to the power of first impressions, "pickup lines" are much more important than we might think, especially for those of us who do have our memories intact.

Personally, I'd like a guy that doesn't try to 'pick up' girls, that's just me though...that's all I meant :) I pay more attention to a guy who's not trying to impress me by putting on a show, like if he's just being himself and is really cool, that's what impresses me.

*makes mental note of this*
