  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Whats up Jasper, I don't know if I can even consider myself a piano player, but I do plan on learning properly and have thus far learned the beginning part of Don't Stop Believing by Journey via YouTube just for the sake of practice. It's suchhh a beautiful instrument and I plan on investing in a keyboard with some of my birthday blessings. :D

I want to learn it but I'm already 22 and I don't know if it will still be easy for me to play the piano.
You are still young, I would try if I were you! :)

At original post.
I believe I have been playing piano since I was probably 7 years old. My Mom taught me some, then I had lessons from when I was 11-15 years old about. I love it!

Never too old to start. I teach adults all the time. The only con of being an adult and starting is having time to practice and realizing that it will take time to sound "professional". So make sure you are committed and have at least 10 or 20 minutes a day to practice.

I'm 63 and have been taking guitar lessons for three years. I've played over 45 years but want to improve my reading skills (which were very beginner). I can play "at" the piano but can chord and if I sat at it more, I'd get better.

Learning is work. There are no shortcuts. Repetition is the mother of understanding. I practice in short bursts. If I'm working on perfecting a song, I'll play it several times through, then stop. I'll do that 3 or 4 times a day. For regular practice I sometimes go past the hour mark but most times it's 30 mins. The best players practice a lot.

I was fired by my teacher! I wanted to take up piano in my retirement, so I might be able to play a little at places like Rescue Mission and nursing homes, but alas, it's never going to be.

I began by going to an old used book store and buying 2 or 3 old hymnals. I bought a couple of beginning piano books and tried to learn on my own. (I was embarrassed to ask for help at first). I bought an old piano.

My wife's music minister at her church heard about me and agreed to help. I tried for about 5 months. I kept saying I wanted to learn to play more church hymns. She finally said "I can't help you. All you want to do is play hymns." I said "o.k. then, that's fine, thanks for trying - no hard feelings"

I'm still playing all the old hymns in my songbook. I can play them all, almost.

But no one wants to hear the old hymns anymore. So I just play for myself when no one is around.
My wife has told me "Never play when I'm home, or I'll run out into the streets and holler - Someone help me!"
