Perhaps he was checking to make sure he wasn't dead?

Obviously, I don't believe that praying will achieve anything. But this young man does, and he took the time to pray for someone he thought could benefit from it. That makes it a nice gesture in my opinion. He cared and wanted to help.

Thanks, I really don't see why anything more was needed to be said by those who don't believe in prayer. Especially considering the child who prayed is too young to have financial means do do anything else. At least he did what he thought could help.

My sentiment is that I only hope he will actually do something once he aquires the means, instead of continuing to pray.

I'm quite surprised this thread into a war over the power of prayer. Regardless of your belief, prayer and meditation have medical benefits, so it can't hurt. If you choose to do neither, it's your prerogative. :thumbups:

Everybody's talkin' all this stuff about me
Why don't they just let me live (Tell me why)
I don't need permission
Make my own decisions (Oh!)
That's my prerogative

It's my prerogative!

 That's possible, as he simultaneously prayed for him....it said in the article that the man was well-known in the area so it's possible that he had seen this man previously, as it was near the bus stop where he catches the bus to go to school......

Unfortunately the man lying on the sidewalk is probably deemed "invisible" so to speak, by most. The fact that this young man stopped, bent down, and prayed over this man, is highly unusual and a most precious thing to see.

He has a rare and most precious heart.

Praying for him and the man he was praying over, and for Baltimore and Maryland. (((hug)))

God bless them both. That picture brings tears to my eyes. Save for the grace of God there go I. Let God's mercy find this homeless man and bring him to better days. And God's blessings fall upon this young man that thought to give hope to the hopeless and peace to the abandoned. And those people who held the bus for him were angels too.

God be praised. We are all here to help each other. How often do we answer the call when we see the need. :groupray: We can be the answer to someones prayer.

I hope he was praying for someone to bring this man some food or get him to a shelter.

i suspect that he may have known this man and had interactions with him previously and would not deprive this man of food, water, or anything to help him if he had it, and perhaps has given him food, etc. I understand from the article that he was on his way to school when this picture was taken, unbeknownst to him.

When a homeless man is lying on the sidewalk like that, on a most likely cold morning, he has possibly been drinking, smells, and is sooooo down n' out, he's oblivious to the sidewalk, and not having even a blanket.

It's beyond desperate.

And heartbreaking.

One might pray.

God have mercy.

Call me a 'fraidy cat but I don't think it'd necessarily be safe for him to wake up a dude whose state if mind he does not know, whose build he may not be able to properly judge, whose strength can't be determined and whose mental health is unknown.

I understand the knee jerk "take him to a soup kitchen" line of thought. It just doesn't seem safe to me (and may not have felt safe for him). Should we fault him for that?

Lastly this thread reads a bit like the merry christmas/happy holiday debate to me. We can't just accept a positive gesture towards our fellow man UNLESS it's dispensed in our own terms. Geeez

Regardless of your belief, prayer and meditation have medical benefits, so it can't hurt.

Cite? Numerous studies examining intercessory prayer have found no benefits, so I'm not sure what you're talking about.
