Wrong. Many countries are technically republics because they have constitutions and no monarchy, but what their voting systems look like can be something else, including quite undemocratic.

Any country that calls itself "The Democratic Republic of Whatever" is almost always wrong on both counts.

Of course they speed up to get ahead of schedule so they can take a break. When cutting it close they may even have to slam on the brakes once in a while.
