  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

When the word "loose" is used instead of "lose". As in "Did you loose your keys?".
Another one is when "close minded" is used when it should be "closed minded".
I feel like a looser?

Of course they speed up to get ahead of schedule so they can take a break. When cutting it close they may even have to slam on the brakes once in a while.

LOL! Meanwhile those unfortunates standing, holding on for dear life, especially around those corners, are gettin' thrown all up n' down the bus because they've lost hold of the pole, etc.

Yeah, that would be a pet peeve of mine.

^_^

I've found that:

Please bare with me

as often as not. Now If I knew it was someone hot and the 'slip' was intended....

I will bear with you if you look anything like Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg. Woah, wait, who said that??!!

I've been told there is a resemblance. Or at least that some picture a younger me looking like him.

I'm old now. I might be too tired to leave the room.

What does it say about me if I like this topic? :) I mean I could probably list 1000 things.
The glass is not half empty. It is completely empty!
(another peeve of mine is the "glass half empty" cliché. )

I am an engineer by training. So I usually say "the glass is twice as big as it needs to be."

Drivers who overtake , then slow down in front of you.
Drivers who go ahead of a line of cars in a turn-only lane, then cut back into the lane(s) going straight.

Several travel-related peeves:

1. The thoughtless boor sitting in front of you who reclines his seat all the way back into your lap.

2. The kid behind you who kicks the back of your seat.

3. The parents of #2 who are oblivious.

4. Screaming, ill-behaved kids in any public place--planes and restaurants especially.

I once almost got into a fight with a father in a restaurant for shouting at his 5 year old son to prevent him pulling the fire alarm. It ended when I asked if was better that I did that or if he would rather explain it to the fire chief.

Pet peeves...

I'm getting just about sick of people (usually around 10 or 15 years older than I am) who conversationally ask my age. Then when I tell them, their immediate reaction is to do the scoff and handwave thing, along with the magic words, "Pfft. You're still just a kid."

Um, no. I'm not old, but I'm not a "kid" either, so please knock that garbage off. Kids are not equal in society. They don't have the same rights as adults, and they don't command the same level of respect. It is not a compliment to tell me I am one, and throwing that word "just" in there makes it even more degrading and dismissive.

I don't ask how old they are, then scoff and wave my hand and say, "Pfft. You're past your expiration date." But boy, am I tempted!

PS. On a related but more light-hearted note, the phrase "he's 90 years young" grates on me. They are clearly trying to avoid the word "old," and there is NOTHING wrong with being old.
