People who think the are the epitome of any ideal and consider others wrong for not acknowledging it stand in the way of any situation progressing past their own person. It's no longer about the ideal but about them defending and promoting it.

These types of control freaks are as much of a danger to themselves as to others, because their ego will not support them enduring anything they consider a lack of stature, wither it be from others coments or their own failings pouring through the veneer of their self emposed perfections.

LOL!

Just wondering...has anyone ever told a joke on their deathbed?

Supposedly...just before dying in a cheap Paris hotel room, Oscar Wilde said something like, "This wallpaper, or me--one of us has to go." ^_^

In real life? I don't know.

But in Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliette, Mercutio says this after being mortally stabbed: "tis not so deep as a well nor so wide as a church-door, but 'tis enough, 'twill serve. Ask for me tomorrow, and you shall find me a grave man."

Regan told a pretty good joke when his life was in danger, after he was shot.

Just before they put him under in the operating room to find the bullet and the source of the internal bleeding that needed to be stopped, he said; I hope all of you here, are republicans.

Serious people address problems. Frivolous people let problems get worse.

It's hard to argue that there's too much seriousness in the world.

As for humor... there are many kinds of humor. It all depends on what you're laughing at, and why. Intelligent humor can be very serious indeed. Intelligent humor offends the frivolous. Intelligent anything offends the frivolous, but intelligent humor actually insults them.

"Life is absurd. It can't be taken seriously" - an atheist.
There is a differance between seriously confronting issues and taking oneself too seriously. Many times ithe word intelligence is used where arogance would be more accurate.

There are different terms people use that acttually mean that they agree with them. Enlightened comes to mind as the term most used. As in, "Certain enlightened people agree with me."

When do you think is the point when someone can be called too serious?
There is a time and a place for everything and being serious can be a good thing but there's a point when you think the person should just laugh and be done with it.
What are your thoughts?

NO!

I have an allergy towards dull, boring, and chronically miserable people. They seem to create a blanket of negativity that smothers everyone around them.

Even the thought of them can cause you to exhale deeply in an exasperated manner.
