Today, the news is that Paul Pelosi was attacked at his home by a guy wielding a hammer. The media organizations are taking it seriously, and of course, are taking the opportunity to blame it on Trump supporters--claiming that it's their "violent political rhetoric" that caused someone to do this.

Compare their reaction to how they treated Rand Paul when he was attacked several years ago, causing 5 broken ribs and a bruised lung. The result? Jokes and laughter:

Also, is anyone surprised that Youtube allows this to remain on their platform? Would they allow it if the subject of the jokes was the attack on Paul Pelosi? (Just something to think about)

It seems the Pelosi incident was possibly politically motivated. The guy was after Nancy Pelosi. Rand Paul incident? Yard rage apparently. Just a neighbourhood disagreemen that turned ugly that happened to include a political figure.

Chalk and cheese.

That's an example of double-standard I was implying is going on.

All speculation for now other than the man was mentally unstable, but the media will plant the seeds

They're already doing it, trying to link him to Jan. 6th (of course), conspiracy theories, biblical justification, being anti-Covid vax, and even that he believed George Floyd died of a Fentanyl overdose, which the reporter calls "false", even though the autopsy proved that he had a fatal dose of it in his body.
Just another leftist MSM hit-piece against conservatives. Nothing more.

You should be happy. This plays into the just-mental-illness scenario.

But I don't think the Pelosis had a property dispute with the assailant, so the reference to Rand Paul doesn't seem to fit.

Well regardless of what people think is behind this or the media's agenda, it does come at a convenient time.

It seems to always come at a convenient time.
You'd think it would help to shed light on the fact that violent crime has become more frequent, and it is understandably a high priority to people. People like Nancy Pelosi seem to think it's all about abortion and Jan. 6th, while everyone else suffers from criminal activity. It's happened to Rand Paul, it's happened to Pelosi, it happened on the front lawn of a conservative currently running for office (can't think of the name right now). So it's not just the everyday citizen who has to worry about being randomly assaulted. Even the liberal politicians living in mansions worth tens of millions are experiencing it, and yet they won't address it unless they can put a political spin on it.

Huh. It looks like the Pelosi assaultant is a pro-nudity activist...
Give SNL a week or so...

Still

Someone (a doctor) who is (~58) tackles you (~55) off your lawnmower because they blow their top after years of putting up with you as a bad neighbor

vs.

Someone (42) enters your home when you are in your 80s looking for your 80+ yr old wife with a hammer.

I don't know maybe it's just me, one seems funnier than the other.

I believe it was Nancy Pelosi's daughter who made the comment that the neighbor got it right with Rand Paul. The major media is a branch of the Democrats, did you notice they were going with the story the guy was calling Nancy Pelosi's name yet the police did not mention that in the press conference? The public deserves answers. Why would they charge the man with elder abuse? Elder abuse takes place when there is some relationship. And when the press asked if there was a break-in the police shut down the press conference.

Why would they charge the man with elder abuse? Elder abuse takes place when there is some relationship.
Here's the law in California. There doesn't have to be a relationship between the victim and the suspect.

California Penal Code 368 PC defines elder abuse as the physical or emotional abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation of a victim 65 years of age or older. The offense can be prosecuted as a misdemeanor or a felony, and is punishable by up to 4 years of jail or prison.

1.2. Felony elder abuse
A prosecutor must prove the following to convict a person of felony elder abuse:

  1. the defendant willfully or with criminal negligence subjected an elderly person to unjustifiable physical pain or mental suffering,
  2. the conduct was likely to produce great bodily injury or death, and
  3. the accused knew or should have known the victim was 65 years old or older.3
“Unjustifiable physical pain or mental suffering” means the same as with misdemeanor abuse.

(b) (1) A person who knows or reasonably should know that a person is an elder or dependent adult and who, under circumstances or conditions likely to produce great bodily harm or death, willfully causes or permits any elder or dependent adult to suffer, or inflicts thereon unjustifiable physical pain or mental suffering, or having the care or custody of any elder or dependent adult, willfully causes or permits the person or health of the elder or dependent adult to be injured, or willfully causes or permits the elder or dependent adult to be placed in a situation in which his or her person or health is endangered, is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year, or by a fine not to exceed six thousand dollars ($6,000), or by both that fine and imprisonment, or by imprisonment in the state prison for two, three, or four years.

(2) If, in the commission of an offense described in paragraph (1), the victim suffers great bodily injury, as defined in Section 12022.7, the defendant shall receive an additional term in the state prison as follows:

(A) Three years if the victim is under 70 years of age.

(B) Five years if the victim is 70 years of age or older.

(f) A person who commits the false imprisonment of an elder or a dependent adult by the use of violence, menace, fraud, or deceit is punishable by imprisonment pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170 for two, three, or four years.

Yes he should have!

Were there a lot of comedy skits about that one? I don't think so.

The problem is that then you'd be comparing apples to apples, two assaults which were committed by individuals who consumed too much of their side's political rhetoric and decided based on what they heard and how they were told that they should feel that someone(s) needed to die for the good of the country and they should take immediate action.

And then we'd all need to work on toning down our own side's rhetoric.

Well shoot! No one wants THAT!

Here I thought this thread was going to inform us on Mr Pelosi's condition after the attack and urge for peace and de-escalation of dangerous rhetoric. Instead, we get the usual media hypocrisy and conservatives are the true victims in this story.

Your compassion for an elderly man being bludgeoned in his home is strangely missing. You should probably reflect on that for a bit and find out how you got to this point.

That’s the real reason behind this thread. Not to inform anyone of anything that’s happened. Just another chance for an attack on the nebulous “left” even when the story is about an actual attack on an 80 year old man.
