While passing out Gospel tracts, I handed one to a man who said he was a pastor. How would you have responded if you were a pastor?
Thanks! And that's what I would think a pastor would say, or some kind of encouragement.I would have responded by saying, "Thank you. I am a pastor. May I help you pass out some of your tracts?"
He probably kept on walking because he felt like he was too busy to stop, talk, or help. Also, it is possible that the man lied to you.
Thanks for sharing!I'd probably have responded similarly to the way he did. If I were not in a hurry, and felt you were open to a conversation, I might have stayed to talk.
I wouldn't want to help you hand out tracts, though, because I generally don't think that is a helpful approach.
Also, if I knew you were recording your interactions, I would be extremely uncomfortable with that, and definitely want to avoid you.
I don't know. It would very much depend on the tract. Not all tracts are noble. While passing out Gospel tracts, I handed one to a man who said he was a pastor. How would you have responded if you were a pastor?
Yes. I have met many people who were saved through reading a gospel tract. The tract-evangelist will never know this side of eternity just how much good they did. They are effective. It may take years for that seed to grow, but you are planting seeds nonetheless.
Yes. If he was in a hurry he could at least say something encouraging, even a 'God Bless You, I'll pray for you!'. Only takes two seconds, can provide encouragement. God Bless YouI think that ‘pastor’ was sort of rude.
I don't understand why one would judge his reaction and worst of all, post it????While passing out Gospel tracts, I handed one to a man who said he was a pastor. How would you have responded if you were a pastor?
As a matter of fact...in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, consider pulling your youtube video. He doesn't need more bad press coming from His Flock. While passing out Gospel tracts, I handed one to a man who said he was a pastor. How would you have responded if you were a pastor?
In 1848. We are in such a different social context now.Hudson Taylor came to Christ through a tract.

I am not saying that. But note that I said to the OP that I felt that handing out tracts was not generally helpful. People do not respond well to someone they don't know pushing material on them in public. It's impersonal and off putting. I do think that leaving material for others to choose to pick up - or not - without any pushing by a person, is slightly different. So all those tracts and printed out messages I leave in public restrooms, waiting rooms, and elsewhere are a waste of time?

What you say is similar to what I have heard being taught in some churches. They say, "We are in a post-Christian era and so therefore we no longer should go out and preach the Gospel with everyone. Instead, we are to make friends and then share the Gospel with our friends."In general, though, I think proclaiming the good news is much more effective when we have already established a relationship of trust, rather than people feeling like we are pressuring them "cold."
