Hey All,
How would everyone feel about a weekly parsha(parashah?) discussion thread? If there's interest, I could outline a few thread rules, and try to get started with Parsha Va'yechi (next weeks portion).
This is right on - I was thinking of this myself today!!

A sticky is one of the threads at the top of the forum that doesn't get pushed down... one with a 'push tack' in it.
LOL
I never could figure out what those icons meant - I figured the blue one to be a mouse (though had no idea why it was there) and just COULD not figure out the yellow one - I can now see that they are both push tacks - DUH!

Traditionally the P'rasha is for the week preceeding Shabbat, as Shabbat is the end, not the beginning of the week. The portions of the P'rasha are read at Minyans thorughout the week preceeding Shabbat and the entire P'rasha is read in 8 seperate aliyot during Shabbat Shakarit (morning service).

How this actually works out is that there is one section for each day of the week, with a double portion on Shabbat.

You can find the P'rasha sections in the Stern's CJB.

It is not necessary that we have to follow one or the other, so I ask:

Do you think we should use the one year reading cycle - and coincide with most MJ congregations that do Torah readings

or

should we use the three year reading cycle - and take it in smaller "bites" and chew more thoroughly?

That works for me. :) I'll try to get a few discussion parameters together later today, and we can start on Va'yechi tomorrow.

I never knew that! I often wondered what the roman numerals were in the portions of scripture of the CJB.
