I live in the area where this took place and used to teach in that district. I can pretty much guarantee you this attack was racially motivated. You will never see white kids attacking black kids in the schools in Louisville- it's always the other way around. Always. That is not an exaggeration on my part. It is a fact. It's a fact that is glossed over, but the information is there. I've seen it.

That video is horrendous. JCPS no longer allows for students to be disciplined properly and control has been taken away from teachers to do anything. Things were bad back in 2012 when I left. Things are worse now.

Crosby used to be a fantastic school. However, they are constantly doing what is called redistricting and the student population is ever changing. How good or bad a school is perceived to be is always down to how the particular students in a school are being parented (or not parented).

My three big questions here are the following: Where was the adult supervision in the bathroom? In the last school where I taught, the bathrooms stayed locked and we escorted our students to supervised bathroom breaks. If what the parents are alleging is true, why did it take ten days to notify them? Why did this girl not tell her parents that she was beat up and in obvious pain that needed serious medical attention?

Sometimes members of the school staff are afraid of the bullies themselves or their parents. Scared that if they report the bullying they themselves will be targeted. Perhaps previous reports to the bully's parents indicated that a reprisal would ensue. Some parents of such bullies are bullies themselves and are sometimes looking for a way to get back into prison. Beating up a teacher is a convenient way to do it. One teacher in New York City tried to put order in class and the students set her on fire. Another student beat up a elderly teacher because she gave her bad grades.

BTW
I wrote this before reading the details of the incident or who specifically was involved. Just based on the general impression I get from the reports I have read and personal observations and experiences with bullies and their parents when I was raising kids.

Part of the problem may be funding where head counts equal more funds so they try and keep habitual abusers, psychopaths, in the schools. Your assessment indicates the circumstances are out of hand here. It sounds like they are simply trying to keep a lid on things and it has gotten out of control. Perhaps education should be viewed more as a privilege then a right. That level of violence is simply unacceptable, and this one was caught which means how many beat downs against whites were not recorded? Small wonder people are pulling their children out of these war zones.

Escorting children to the bathroom, esp the boys might make for cleaner bathrooms since they trash them just about every night. There is a lot of things that go on that i just don't understand. One involves a teacher who has to put up with a student who wrote some nasty remarks of a sexual nature on the sidewalks outside the school. Involving the teacher and student and there he is in the classroom with the terrified 100 lb. teacher. So i don't always know what the agenda of the professionals are here because on the outside it does not make sense. And we hear stuff like this all the time. Whoever that student was in the video beating on the 12-year-old, she forfeited her right to an education at the very least. She really should be locked up somewhere.

With a lot of these students, the damage is done, and there is no rescue. They have to behave and keep up, and if they don't then, they should be allowed to fail. Not everybody makes the A team. All this nauseating positive reinforcement is not working. You are an excellent student Johnny, Good job Joey when in reality they are barely keeping up.

You can try to rationalize the reasons all you want but the naked truth is that the culture to which such bullies belong and which produced the bullies as well as their bully parents is to blame. You can take such kids and place them in a school of the highest standards and they will still introduce their predatory mentality into it because that's is simply who they are. As adults they take the attitude to the workplace and make life hard for other workers or clients who are normal.

My question - were criminal charges made against the ones who beat her up?

This incident reminds me of what happened at the school where my X wife attended as a teen.

At that public institution, there were females who would wait in the bathroom for other girls to enter and then physically attack them. One Pentecostal Latina girl was beaten so badly that she never returned.

Of course such predatory groups always have a ringleader. Since the ringleader ran out of targets she focused on my x wife who SEEMS docile but is completely the opposite. After numerous insults and threats, to which my X wife cunningly made no response, the ringleader pushed her down the stairwell. Since the bully was twice the size of my X she was extremely confident.

Big mistake since all she managed to do was unleash the kraken. In the insuing melee, the bully began to cry out for God and mercy as my x savagely masticated one of her breasts and latched on to her facial skin with her razor sharp nails. [she had purposefully been honing them in anticipation]

Her friends offered the bully no help for some reason this time. After it was over the bully threatened to kill my X who smilingly responded with a calm: "Go for it!" Later the bully offered friendship which my x declined.

In short, there are those who attend school because they are required to only but who have abslu6ely no intention of learning anything at all. In fact, when asked why they attended school, many of the kids that my son asked said:

" We come to school to fight!"

That was after I asked my son to ask them why they were in school since all he was describing was total mayhem. Had to finally pull him out and home school him for his own safety. Visited the school and it seemed more like a prison with guards at the door and police cars parked outside. Principle's office was full of brazen faced kids on detention who smirked at the adults. A veritable madhouse!

I visited my son's school once when he was in third grade. I got there between classes, and it was a madhouse. Hundreds of hyper kids running in the halls looking like they were on drugs. My son had a glazed look in his eyes and hardy even recognized me. It was frightening.

Interesting comment. I mistakenly walked into a woman's bathroom recently (senior moment I guess) and I couldn't believe my eyes. It stunk like an outhouse and was littered with toilet paper and trash. I have never seen a men's bathroom in such a condition (I'm still trying to get over it).

I think the teachers are probably in the same shocked or semi shocked condition.

BTW
Parents who themselves attended such schools would probably be shocked if they visited a normal one where everything was orderly and quiet..

I had the same traumatizing experience at religious assembly where I was trying to help clean the restrooms after the convention. The female restroom was really a horrible nauseating mess. Left it with a glazed look on my face from the shock!

Overall the Boys bathroom is trashed far more than the girls. It is not even close. Absolute worst, urine all over the walls and floor, clog up the sinks with paper towels and flood to the floor, rip out the towel dispensers, write on the walls, etc. If they do not have male staff to watch them. If the schools is mostly female teachers then the male students can do what they want in the bathrooms and they do. They cannot put cameras in there and really no one cares except the students and night staff who has the clean up the mess. In the early AM, assuming the day Engineer walks into the Boys bathroom and smells urine, it is a fail. The walls have to be cleaned nightly. Floors scrubbed esp around the urinals and stalls.

With girls it is hair. Hair all over picked up in vacs and carpet cleaners. The carpet cleaners have to be cleaned after each use and what we pull out of them is mostly gunk balls of hair mixed with dirt. After every use. In public building where there is carpet you would not believe how much human hair is being walked on or what is breathed in. Dust supposedly (?) composed of dead human skin cells.

I imagine that many are motivated to act up just to be uploaded to the internet. You know, to gain what they believe to be a sort of celebrity status. One notorious example is the heated argument between a young student an a girl who seems about to attack him. You can find it under the category of "Get out of my face!" Teachers don't intervene. Watching students who are recording it are having a ball laughing. Of course there is some foul language used during the heated argument and it cannot be posted here. Such videos go viral and I imagine that the protagonists eventually feel like movie stars from all the online attention they get. Perhaps prohibiting those video phone cameras at the schools would reduce such incidents.
