• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Haylee~ God's peace be with you!
Even though its been 2 days since you wrote this post,
I'm tempted to say "relax" but I know how annoying that is when you're having a panic attack. My advice, lay in bed, hug a teddy bear. Send up a little prayer. Take DEEP breathes, and try to stay focused on something postive, or good.
Prayers are with you!

My dear sister...may the peace of God be with you. Love and grace be your surroundings. Dear friend of mine...how I do love you very much. I love you because Jesus loves me...and I therefore must spread this love. I will pour out all I know for you to read of. I will send you everything that I've got in ways of wisdom and share it with you. May it all come good to you.

First, a website to analyze why you feel the way you do:
http://moodgym.anu.edu.au/mod1_p03.asp

And now, prayers:
The Jesus Prayer:
Say this in your head on your breath in: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God"
Say this in your head on your breathe out: "Have mercy on me, a sinner."
Say this many many times. Monks say it nearly all day sometimes.

The Centering Prayer:
Say a word in your head on every breath in and out...something that gets you to think of God or one that my favorite author uses to stay in the NOW... "now" "love" "joy" "Peace" "hope" "abba" "abba I belong to you" "I am the beloved"
You can basically say any word you want.

Here is a website with prayers on it:
http://www.jesuit.ie/prayer/

Focus on one verse and repeat it in your head, then out loud. then repeat it in your head again. then say one word at a time with a breath between each word. Focus solely on this verse and don't let anything else slip in.

A great book to indulge in:
"Abba's Child" by Brennan Manning

I hope this helps my little sister....with love from our dear Abba (daddy), Lauren

I have panic attacks so I can relate, God has helped me through this many times but I also take medication, I use to use alot of wrong tactics to stop these things like drinking ect and it only makes things worse but I thought seeking help would be saying I was crazy, God can deliver you from this and I know he can me too but I am still working on getting back into church and stuff right now but I know he is real, I will not take anti-depressent drugs as they make things worse too in my opinion because it is not a depression it is an overwhelming feeling of panic and fear and what I use to control this is the same thing they use to treal epelipsy an ati-convultant called Klonopin, but true freedom comes from God and you can still seek God and get medical help also, some may disagree with this and you got to make your on dicission on this one but I do know what they are like and actually if you watch preachers on TV Rod Parsley use to suffer from this and God set him free of it and he tells of his experience from time to time and he is a really compassionate preacher and great to listen to.
Seek the Lord on what to do and I also have found that one of the best ways to deal with this is by getting out and helping other people you would be amazed at how much it actually helps you keep busy and keep your mind occupied with good things as panic episode are usually triggered by bad thoughts.
Praise God everytime you feel it happening no matter how bad you feel and just keep thanking him for everything you can think of and before you know it you will feel overflowing with Joy and that feeling of panic and fear will be gone and the more you do this the stronger you become, I know from experience and the best time to praise God is when you dont feel like it or want to and this done wonders for me but unfortionately I wonder from God and now I got to try to get back because when I fell instead of getting back up and dusting my self off I let the feeling of failure take over and just went back to my old ways so dont give up and if you make a mistake ask forgiveness and keep on going I realize where I went wrong so dont let it happen to you and just keep praising him and watch what happens.

Haylee,
I'm praying right now for you.... I had one today as well!!! I know how scarey it is... What helps me is praying outloud :prayer: ! Will also call someone to get my mind on something else... Been dealing with this since May of 2003 and am so blessed to have gotten this far... REMEMBER, you can't die from a panic attack.. remember to tell yourself that when it starts coming on.... Hope your day has been a nice one:) ...
