Wow!... at first read of that thread all I can say is wow.

First, as they say "you can’t always believe what you read"....
There is a lot of "junk" science available out there, and it seems on certain subjects there is an even more massive amount of junk science.

Now if there is a problem with the ozone it’s not significantly attributed to man (if any). Ozone is naturally created when sunlight strikes the atmosphere. O3, or ozone is one layer is what filters out much of the suns radiation high in the atmosphere. There normally seems to be holes in the ozone layer at the poles because the sun strikes these areas at oblique angles that do not produce ozone. Someone commented on ozone problems for South America during the winter, this is also explained with the lack of direct light to areas of the planet during the winter.

As far as R-12 gasses yes they destroy ozone, but it cannot possibly be the culprit. These gasses are dense enough that they sink in our atmosphere. I've read where even if convection currents could not possibly carry R-12 EVEN CLOSE to the altitudes of ozone. In all actuality, as was mentioned earlier in the thread, the average thickness of the ozone has increased some in the short time we have been able to measure it.

There is no debate as to if man has abused the environment!, but I hope that the money spent on this problem can be used to help the environment in ways that it can actually help.

Ok, one thing I'm curious about then. Why the south pole? I'd thin the concentration of CFCs would be much higher in the northern hemesphere.

The source is the northern hemisphere but atmospheric conditions mean the damage is caused at the south pole vortex

Because of the air flow created by global warming gases.Look at where the greatest production of industrialised nations are.These have a direct link to the flow of air which ends up in the southern hemisphere. A canadian report published in2001 gives adetailed study of this problem and the relationship with ozone depletion because of climatic change

The ozone hole normally grows bigger and smaller periodically. It was bigger in the past then now according to scientific data. I don't think that it's that much of a problem.

The problem is that it is staying larger for longer and thereby endangering the health of people especially in the SH.
