  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Love is blind they say~it didn't really sink in that my wife was allergic until after the honeymoon, and then the realization of no cats was disappointing. I used to have an aquarium when I was in high school, and when I enlisted then I gave it away. So twenty plus years later with a family my oldest brings home some goldfish he "won"~that would have been the summer of 07. There were originally three but one died within a week of bringing it home. The other two seem to be growing fine but I have to get a bigger tank than the 10 gal they are in. They share it with some neon tetras, zebra danios, and cory cats~yeah, it's a tad overstocked. I do learn a lot from a couple of aquarium forums~there it seems most of my questions have been asked so I just search out the answers...

The big goldfish is Ruby and the small one is Goldie (hey I didn't name them and don't always get them right;) ). The three cory cats are named, but they don't stay still long enough for a picture, and the neons and danios are not named~danios aren't fitting in well, they're pretty active compared to everyone else-if they were bigger I'd make fishsticks outta them:D

Cat corries are great fish. I think we have grandparents in the tank right now they've multiplied so much. I like your tank. We're kinda fish enthusiasts, too, my son is hoping that our guppies will mate. He bred guppies at the ripe old age of 8 and was making money from pet stores.

I've got a bronze, peppered, and panda~don't know genders or even if they interbreed...when I was younger I had swordtails~they were like rabbits but I usually let the other fish eat the fry:sorry:

I have a rabbit.

When I first moved in to my former apartment, there was a family downstairs with this rabbit. It was treated and cared for horribly, and often got out.

One day, I found it under a bush, terrified. Not far from death. My heart broke and I took it back to my apartment. My mom is a "rabbit person" and a part of the House Rabbit Society and I called her and she gave me good advise of what to do to save it, including a vet visit - that cost me PLENTLY.

I could have turned it in to the Humane Society, but that doesn't always end well. And I couldn't really keep it - I knew who the owners were. I gotta admit, I really struggled. I emailed one of the pastors here at CF, a friend of mine who was actually one of the people who got me on staff years ago. Anyway, I told him of my situation. I could not let this little guy go back to the owners knowing he'd likely no live, but on the other hand.... He suggested that I offer to buy the rabbit from them - an option I hadn't even thought of. So, I went down stairs, told them I had found their rabbit and offered them $60.00 for it. They looked at me like I was CRAZY and grabbed the money.

I still have him. He's now healthy and strong. His fir has totally changed colors and is silky and beautiful. His wounds (from a dog) have healed and he has finally calmed down. He'll sit by me for hours and let me pet him, and he loves to hop around the apartment and "dance."

Pets and people. Funny, isn't it?

Jimminy, is it possible to get emotionally attached to fish? I guess I always think of pets as being fluffy and cuddleable... can't really hug a fish :(

I don't think of them the same way I did my cats~some people probably do though. I'm on a couple of aquarium forums~there are some real fishlovers there. They are pretty neat though..

OK...now I have to tell my fish story...

I had black mollies at one time...and a little mixed whatever dog with a crooked tail...and a roomie who had cats and dobbermans.

Anyway...I came home from work one day and the apt was trashed and all the animals looked quite guilty...as I was cleaning up...I found one of the mollies on the carpet...all curled up and hard and covered in cat/dog hair...

It was very sad...so I picked it up to give it a burial at "sea" and dropped it in the bathroom bowl...and the phone rang...when I came back to give her a flush...the molly was swimming around in the bowl...

...so I "fished" her out and put her back in the tank where she lived a long, happy molly life.

...stories that make you go...ewwwww........with a happy ending...:)

LOL..... Must be something to that old adage about "our time."

I'm happy for your fish. And you.

very nice!

i miss having fish and hope to get some when i get my own place, they're awesome creatures :) when i was about 8 i had a goldfish named Dilton (yes i read Archie comics *a lot* when i was a kid :p) who thought he was a trout and was constantly dancing and jumping out of the water, so cute :D

unfortunately he over shot one time and ended up in the flower pot next to his tank and ended up getting sick from something in the dirt :(

my dad had a tank of tropical fish from the late 60's through ~2000 (didn't move the fish tank when he remarried), we had some pretty long lived fish, also our swordtails tended to breed so often had some baby fish

the last few years my dad paid a service to come in and take care of the tank maintainence - reason being . . . . .
my dad had a rash/inflammation on his hand, his doctor sent him to a dermatologist who after several topical treatments failed did a biopsy - ended up he had an infection caused by some sort of organism typically found in swamp waters, but can also be found in fish tanks - my dad had a cut on his hand and that gave the organism an entry point - who'd have thunk it?
