• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Ok i have moderate dyslexia with possible dyspraxia.

But i also have a few other problems too. I cant for the life of me concentrate on most things, im not OCD but show minor traits like checking and rechecking (which drives me mad) im sensitive to little sounds (like eating or stuff) and i have social problems. My sleep is terrible. I have to get up and walk around a lot, i find it hard to stay still. I also have emotional problems and can get aggressive (which calmed down a little due to a hobby of mine). I also have paranioa and anxiety.

I was very hyper as a kid.

Anyone else have similar problems?

If anyone actually looks here :D

Wow , you have nailed my "issues". I really feel for you. As I feel for myself. The checking and rechecking is terrible, as I work for a co. where I have to write checks. And I always worry I will write the check for the wrong amount (wow that was alot of checks). Also the eating thing I never thought of it before but that bothers me too!!. If my husband is eating watermelon I just, ...sigh. The most unfortunate thing is my son was diagnosed with dyslexia. The other nerve wracking thing for me is spelling. Thank God for spell check.

Praying for all that can relate.

Aww...

Don't start on checks! :D

I avoid writing them where possible.

Do you also have a problem with people touching you, getting into personal space and feel of clothing etc.

Well you know that you can help your son. :)

You pretty much described me. I was told by some doc when a teen that i had dyslexia.

Probally its biggest effect on me has been in exams. In class i was always one of the top students but when it came to exams i pretty much always got C's. I revised alot for exams but no matter how much work i put in it didnt seem to matter. I will have a ton of spelling mistakes, repeat/leave words out, invent words, use the wrong word, mix words up, write random things, etc.

Also im awful at reading out loud in front of people. On my own into myself i can read easily. Out loud it will be very disjointed and at times i'll just stair at a word for a few seconds and it seems my brain just wont do anything.

But anyway as you may agree there are far worse things people have prepared to dyslexia, so i can have no complaints that i have dyslexia.

My biggest issue is with sounds I hate them...
Chewing, clicking , metal on metal, wispering, the whistle that comes when some people say the "s" sound, gulping, high pitch noises, the sniff when one has a runny nose... I just cannot block any sound out and I hear it all and notice it all and they all overwhelm me

Also I lack the ability to find the right words to use. I notice this mostly in papers for school.

I can read fine and that I am grateful for. I compensated somehow when I was learning, so while I can read and comprehend quickly I cannot write or type without error frequently inverting words and more recently writing backwards. Spell check is my best friend. Numbers are my worst enemy.

The only social problem is crowded places, I do not like them, I do not like concerts or standing in packed lines or lots of people in any indoor situation. (outdoors is fine)

I think I have dyscalculia . . . but also:

I have issues with adults trying to hug me and stuff . . . but people around my age or younger are okay. . . which I find weird.

I struggle with anxiety. I hate parties . . . I, too, stutter when I read out loud, even though I have an above average reading level and read fast in my head. And I also have focus issues.
