• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't think I have a single favorite. I love researching religions, history and mythology and tend to focus on the echoes of older religions that survive in the folklore and festivals of various cultures. I also am interested in gnostic and mystery religions past and present.

There are many many interesting belief systems out there, but I think I would start with Celtic druidism.

Surely that has nothing to do with the fact that my soon-to-be wife is a follower of that path :D

The next faith I guess I should study, though, is Islam.

Celtic druidism is exactly what I've been diving into during my vacation. I went to my local used bookstore the day before I got on the plane and found that someone with a strong former interest in Celtic mythology, history, druidism, etc., had cleared their bookshelf. There were about 40 books of various quality on the subject. I picked up a few tomes and a few lighter-weight books.

One book that piqued my interest on several levels was "The Life and Death of a Druid Prince", a well researched popular book on the Lindow Man discovered in the Lindow Moss peat bog in England in 1984.

Mostly new religions...Eckankar, MSIA, Scientology. I'm planning on writing my thesis on 20th century new religious movements.

Just curious, are you studying only "new religions" or "new movements" also? I asked because Hare krishna movement is an interesting one to study and include in your thesis.

I don't have a favorite religion to study, I like to learn about them all. Right now I'm focusing on Catholicism because I'm converting, but I am reading a very interesting book on Fundamentalist Islam, Christianity, and Judaism.

I LOVE to study religion, I'm applying to college in a couple of months, my major is going to be religion with a concentration in Comparitive Religion. My favorites to study are Hinduism, mostly the Vaisnavite schools, Mahayana Buddhism, especially the pure land sects, Zoroastrianism, and Jainism.

What is the title of the book? I had one on those topics that I had started, but then lost it during a move.

What is your favorite religion to study other than your own. If you are not allowed to study or understand other religions because your religion forbids it, please do not jump down my throat for asking the question. The question was not directed at you then.
Buddhism, Wicca, and Judaism
