That is indeed sad. I thought the idea of Christian Churches and pastors is to bring people to Christ, not deliberately push them away. I am glad that I belong to a denomination that is very tolerant of other views.

Sounds like he keeps it all on context and does not put up with anyone trying to take the Bible out of context.

That is a polite way of saying that as a Pastor it is his job to protect the sheep from the wolves.

I don't question their religious beliefs. I question their views of science which are exclusionary, extraordinarily myopic, completely wrong and in some cases, just plain made up.

I am doubtful any creationist site is "lying" in that I suspect they actually believe what they say.

But almost all of them:

1. fail to understand the science (often their critiques are founded on some serious error or another)

2. have selected only those things with some question they can leverage ("doubt for doubt's sake")

3. select only those areas they can leverage for their point (bias)

The key to any creationist site is that they are there for one purpose and one purpose only: prove creationism correct. It isn't scientific nor is it intended to be.

Creationists are not working to make "earth science" more understandable or to make a new and better tool to understand the earth, but rather to poke holes in data that is inconvenient to strict adherence to a fringe interpretation of a book of unknown provenance, unknown authorship and unknown intent by a group of people we really only know one thing for sure: they didn't know anything about the early development of the earth.

I'm not sure what your original statement was, but this question does not need to be answered to address it. We know it is of Jewish provenance. Whether they may have borrowed some of it from older culture, does not change this. Jews came from somewhere. Do you challenge that we know it comes through the Jews?

Yes of course I realize this is where modern scholarship points, but do you realize the level of ignorance this expresses by turning a deaf ear to the fact this this is a literary style used throughout the whole of Scripture?

I cannot accept this as a truthful statement. Do you really know that Homer, himself, personally, wrote all of the works attributed to him? W/o the use of a scribe? It's a foolish question. That's the problem with taking a modern Bible and pretending it's supposed to not only stand on it's own, but be left open for us to figure out what it's trying to say. Don't feel bad, Christians make this mistake all the time! Correct the error and understanding begins to open up.

Not sure I agree with that. Anyway, my statement that you took exception to is removed. Hope that makes you feel better? It's just as easy to get God to stop talking to you, but much harder to "hear" what He has to say
