Elizabeth you are right! It seems this poor unfortunate feline was snuffed out by an apparent mob hit of sorts due to his willingness to help law enforcement sniff out fish smugglers. What a tragic end to a promising career.

And I was planning on serving caviar at my next social gathering, too.

p.s. even though I make light of the fact that the kitty got hit by a car, I know how traumatizing that is to a cat owner. I had a cat once named Rudy and he got hit by a car. I cried for a week.

Cat detective meets a fishy end

Updated 13 July 2003, 14.36

You've heard of sniffer dogs, but what about a sniffer cat?

Police in Russia have been using a feline crime fighter called Rusik to help them sniff out fish smugglers near the Caspian Sea.

But now Rusik has met a tragic end - he was run over and killed by a car.

But the police think there's something a bit fishy about his death.

The car that ran him over had been used by smugglers in the past.

Big business

Sturgeon smuggling is big business because the eggs from the fish are used to make the expensive food called caviar.

Rusik's skill at sniffing out hidden fish was so good that he had replaced the local sniffer dog.

The cat detective walked into a police station a year ago as a stray kitten. The staff quickly adopted him, feeding him on scraps of fish confiscated from smugglers.

Extinction threat

Most of the world's caviar comes from the Caspian Sea.

And because there's so much money to be made, the sturgeon has been hunted to the brink of extinction.

Hello Dominican

Have you seen Jeff's new avatar of the wood [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]? That is one animal dogs hate.

There was a home video of a skunk that got it's head caught in a tiny yogurt cup. When a man had compassion on the skunk and pulled off the cup, the skunk gave it to him, right in the face. Ugh.

I got a question. I know it doesn't fit the thread, but I can't find a single good Catholic book on the Trinity. Just on the Trinity.

I've got four Protestant books in defense of the Trinity, and I'm very fond of them. I want some variety though.

What's the best book you can refer me to? Something that's the really in-depth, apologetic and so forth. I know that Orthodox are the sharpest knives in the drawer when it comes to Trinitarianism. Could you help me on that?

I think what you are looking for is Being As Communion by John Zizioulas. Clark Carlton describes that book as the most difficult he has ever read, but as he got through it he realized he could no longer remain a Protestant. He was in a Baptist seminary, and this book actually showed him the Trinity (for the first time)

I'm gonna smear him. It doesn't appear that he has any scientific evidence which shows the superiority of cats over dogs. Since I have scientific proof showing that not only are cats dangerous to select demographic groups (pregnant women), but that dogs are also capable of detecting certain types of cancers, I'm sure to smash my opponents argument to smithereens. :D

Let me assure you that dogs are MORE dangerous to select demographic groups. I speak from personal experience, as my son was attacked by a dog when he was 20 months old, and required general anesthesia for an hour in the OR with a plastic surgeon. And I won't go into the gory details of people killed by dogs. Don't get me wrong, I LIKE dogs, (even though dogs definitely stink more than cats, my dog has the worse breath!), but...cats RULE!

I saw a clip once that showed the wardens chasing down a smugglers van around the Caspian. It made a drug raid look tame by comparison. I forget the rubles that the cache was worth but it was astronomical.
