Song # 81

This song is based off Matt. 28:19-20, often called “The Great Commission,” and was spoken by Jesus to his disciples; off Acts 1:8, which was Jesus’ words to his disciples concerning the sending of His Holy Spirit to them after he left the earth and ascended back to heaven; and off Rom. 1:16-17, which Paul said concerning the gospel of Jesus Christ and its power for the salvation of people’s lives for eternity. Jesus has commissioned each and every one of us who are his disciples and followers to go and to make disciples, and to teach them to obey Christ’s commands. Yet, we do not do this in our own power or strength. We are Christ’s witnesses when the Holy Spirit comes upon us, when we accept Jesus Christ into our hearts and lives to be our Lord and Savior. He will give us the words to say, so we don’t ever have to be afraid. We should never be ashamed of our Lord or of his gospel, worrying about what to say or how to say it, and worried about what others will think about us. Instead, we must realize that the gospel has the power for salvation in people’s lives.

I’m Not Ashamed / An Original Work / February 15, 2012

Based off Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 1:8; Rom. 1:16-17

Go into all the world,
And tell them the Good News,
Making disciples of all the nations,
Baptizing them in the name of the Father
And of the Holy Spirit,
And of the Son,
Teaching them to obey
Ev’rything I have commanded you,
And surely I am with you,
E’en to the end of the age.

You will receive power
When the Holy Spirit
Comes on you;
My witnesses you will be
In Samaria, Judea, and Jerusalem,
And to the ends of the earth, amen!
You will receive power
When the Holy Spirit comes on you,
My witnesses you will be
Unto the ends of the earth.

I’m not ashamed of the
Gospel of my Jesus.
For salvation, it’s the power of God.
For in the gospel a righteousness
From God is made known,
A righteousness that is by faith.
I’m not ashamed of the
Gospel of my Jesus.
For salvation, it’s the power of God.
The righteous will live by faith.

Song # 82

We have been battling sickness in our house for over a week now. It appears we keep recycling the same germs to one another. And, then I walked into our bedroom yesterday and turned on a light when my husband was sleeping. I didn’t think about it. The light was like a sharp stab to his eyes, though. And, then I felt really bad about it. This cold has been getting me really down, too. So, all this was going on when I sat down to hear from the Lord, to see if he had words to go with the tune I believe he had given me to write. So, when he began with the words, “You are loving and forgiving, Jesus, Savior,” I felt such comfort and reassurance from him at this time. Then, he led me to read Psalm 86, and to translate the psalm into New Testament terminology. So, this song is based off that Psalm, with Jesus Christ as the one to whom we are offering our prayer of praise, adoration, thanksgiving and supplication.

You are Loving and Forgiving / An Original Work / February 19, 2012

Based off Psalm 86

You are loving and forgiving,
Jesus, Savior, King of kings.
You provided our redemption.
By Your blood You set us free.
You are gracious; full of mercy.
No deeds can compare with Yours.
Great are You; there is none like You.
Glory be to Your name.

Teach me Your way, and I’ll walk in it.
O Lord, I will walk in Your truth.
May I not have a heart divided,
That Your name I give honor to.
I will praise You, O Lord, my Savior,
For great is Your love toward me.
You have delivered me from my sins.
Your grace has pardoned me.

You, O Lord, are full of compassion,
Slow to anger, bounteous in love;
Faithful to fulfill all You promise;
Glory be to Your name above.
Hear, O Lord, and answer Your servant.
You are my God. I trust in You.
Turn to me and grant Your strength to me.
You are my comforter.

Song # 83

I have been reading in Revelation about the power and majesty of God, and of Jesus Christ, God the Son. Jesus, the Lamb of God, was the only one worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because he was slain, and with his blood he purchased men for God. He made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and we will reign with Christ on the earth. The Lamb, who was slain, is worthy “to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” This song, “Praise the ‘I AM’,” is also a song of praise to Jesus Christ, my Savior, who is my gracious Redeemer, who, by his grace, pardoned me, forgave my sin and he set me free! Now, I am His servant and witness.

Praise the “I AM!” / An Original Work / February 24, 2012

Jesus, my Savior, full of compassion,
Glorious in power, mighty in strength;
Gracious Redeemer, mighty deliv’rer,
My heart adores Him. Praise to His name!
Perfect salvation my Lord provided
When He died for my sins on a tree;
Crucified my sins; conquered in vict’ry,
When He arose, so I could be free!

I am so thankful for His forgiveness;
Grateful that He chose to pardon me,
Giving me new life full in His Spirit,
So I can serve Him; His servant be!
Walking in daily fellowship with Him,
Obeying Him whate’er He commands;
Forsaking my sins, living in freedom,
I will endure with Him to the end!

He gives me peace and calm reassurance
In times of sorrow, or in distress.
His grace is sure, and oh, how sufficient
To meet me in my need for sweet rest.
Oh, how I love You, Jesus, my Savior.
My heart longs for You where’er I am.
Your word is precious; speaks to my spirit;
Brings comfort, healing. Praise the “I AM!”

This song is based off Psalms 37 and 46. When I sat down to work on the tune, the Lord brought to mind Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” I think the words we must hear from God quite often are: “Be still!” “Do not fear!” “Be Joyful!” We, as humans, have a tendency to fear and fret, to worry and to get distressed over the circumstances of our lives. So, God continually reminds us that we are not to fear, but that we are to put our trust in Him. He reminds us when we are getting impatient, or we are worried about the outcome of something going on in our lives, that we are to be still and to wait patiently before the Lord. And, in all that we are going through, he continually reminds us that we are to give thanks to God, and we are to be joyful, and even to leap for joy when we are mistreated and rejected. I am so thankful for these continual reminders from God, aren’t you?

Be Still / An Original Work / February 29, 2012

Based off Psalms 37 and 46

God’s our refuge and our strength,
An ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
Though the mountains fall into the sea.
The Lord Almighty is with us;
God of Jacob is our fortress.
“Be still, and know that I am God;
Exalted I’ll be.”

Trust in the Lord and do good;
And delight yourself in the Lord,
And He will give you your heart’s desires.
Commit your way to the Lord.
Trust in Him and He will do this:
He will make your righteousness shine
Like the dawn, the justice of your
Cause – the noon-day sun.

Be still before the Lord,
And wait patiently for Him; do not fear.
Fretting only leads to evil.
Put your hope in Jesus Christ.
If the Lord delights in your way,
He makes your steps firm and steady.
The Lord upholds you with His hand,
So you will not fall.

This song is a prayer of petition to my Lord. It is a prayer seeking his face, his guidance and his counsel. It asks of the Lord that I may listen to him, and that I may follow Him in truth. I ask that He gently lead me in His service, and that He guide my steps and give me strength. I want to be filled with his love and mercy, and for that love and mercy to spill over into my relationships with the people in my life, and the people I meet face to face on a daily basis. My heart’s desire is that I would always be willing and ready to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, and to not shrink back when given the opportunity. I want to show God’s love to people in caring for their needs, too. Most of all, and this is all encompassing, I want to be like Jesus in all that I do, think and say. I want Him to always be King of my heart and for me to follow him in complete obedience wherever He leads me.

Your Servant Witness / An Original Work / March 13, 2012

Humbly I bow, Lord, before You,
Bringing my requests to You.
May I listen; hear You speaking.
May I follow You in truth.
Gently lead me in Your service.
Guide my steps and strengthen me.
Fill me with Your love and mercy.
May I live for Thee!

Let me be Your servant witness,
Telling others of Your grace.
May I always share the gospel
With those I meet face to face.
May I show the love of Jesus,
Caring for the needs of men;
Be Your servant witness always
For my Lord, Amen!

My desire to be like Jesus,
Living for Him ev’ry day.
May I obey all His teachings
Given me, so I’ll not stray.
Love You, Jesus, Lord, my master.
You are the King of my heart;
Follow You where’er You lead me;
Not from You depart!

I was talking to the Lord about stuff going on in my life. I had just written out my devotions from the book of Amos, chapters 1-2. I was thinking about how Amos was just a shepherd when God called him to be a prophet and to give out his messages. I thought about all the prophets from the Old and New Testaments who had to give out difficult messages, confronting sin, calling for repentance, and often warning of judgment. I thought about the calling of God on my life to share what he teaches me each day from his word, in all practicality in applying Biblical truth to today’s world and church, and to my own personal life, too. I talked with the Lord about all of this, and how I sometimes weary of giving out such difficult and unpopular messages, and wish I could share happier messages more often. I often identify with Jeremiah who sometimes lamented over the weight of the messages and the response of the people to the messages. Yet, as I prayed through all of this, I told the Lord, “Yet, I can do no less than obey you in whatever you have called me to do, say and be.” And, from that, he gave me the words to this song, “No Less.”

No Less / An Original Work / March 19, 2012

I can do no less than praise You,
Lord, for all You’ve done for me.
You died for my sins to save me,
So I would be set free.
I adore You! Lord, I praise You!
Jesus, Savior, King of kings!
You provided my redemption.
Your grace has pardoned me.

I can do no less than serve You.
Lord, Your witness I would be,
Telling others of Your love,
And why You died on that tree.
Tell of how You gave of Your life,
So from sin we’d be set free,
So we could worship You forever,
And live eternally.

I can do no less than love You,
Lord, for You have first loved me.
You gave of Your life so willing,
Because You cared for me.
Turn from my sin! Obey freely!
Live for You each passing day.
Read Your word, and follow Your lead,
Lord, as I humbly pray.

On Tuesday morning of this week I joined a ladies’ Bible study group at a local church in our area. The teacher gave us the assignment of writing out, on index cards, verses God speaks to us through during the week. We are to bring them with us to the next study, and we are to share how God spoke to us through them.

So, yesterday, during my time of prayer with the Lord, as I was praying about specific situations going on in my life, the Lord gave me the verses in Zechariah 4:6b-10a: “’Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘What are you, O mighty mountain? … You will become level ground… Who despises the day of small things?’”

The passage is ultimately a prophecy about Jesus Christ, our priest and King, who is the capstone of God’s building, Christ’s church, the body of Christ. Christ Jesus laid the foundation of the temple of God, his body, the church, and he is the one to complete it. Yet, the Lord was using this text to encourage me in the ministry to which he has called me. He was encouraging me to complete the assignment, not in my own power and strength, but in the strength and power of the Holy Spirit of God within me. He ensured me that he was able to complete the work through me despite any obstacles Satan might throw my way.

Not By Might / An Original Work / March 29, 2012

“Not by might, and not by power,
But by My Spirit,” says our Lord, God.
“Mighty mountain, O what are you?
Before Christ you will become level ground.”
The hands of our Lord, Savior God,
Formed the foundation of His church.
He alone will complete the work
He began in His servants’ hearts and minds.

Who despises small beginnings?
Much can be done in Christ’s strength within.
Be of courage, and trust your Lord.
All sufficient He is for all your needs.
Opposition and apathy:
Holy Spirit will set us free!
We can be overcomers in our faith
In our Lord, and our Savior, King.

Don’t be troubled by God’s timing.
He has ev’rything in His command.
Hasten to obey His commands fully,
Trusting Him to work all for good.
Not by might nor by human strength,
But by God’s power; strength within;
My dependency now on His working
His will in me in righteousness.

“Some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, ‘Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat?’” Jesus knew their hearts, so he replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?” Ouch! He called them hypocrites, and then told them that Isaiah was right when he prophesied about them: “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.”

Then, Jesus called the crowd over to him and said, “Listen and understand. What goes into a man’s mouth does not make him unclean, but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him unclean.” The disciples were concerned that Jesus had offended the Pharisees, but Jesus was not the least bit concerned about whether or not his words offended the self-righteous, prideful and hypocritical religious leaders who were leading people astray by their strict adherence to things that did not affect the heart of man, while they neglected the true matters of the heart. Jesus is concerned about our hearts, and he wants us to have our hearts purified and to be made clean by the power of his Holy Spirit within us. So he is calling out to us to turn from our sins and to turn to follow him in obedience to his commands. This is the way of love, and it is the way of salvation.

The Heart of Man / An Original Work / April 4, 2012

Based off Matt. 15:1-20; Mk. 7:1-23

Listen to me ev’ryone and
Understand this teaching of Christ:
Why do you break the commands
Of God for the sake of tradition?
When you follow the ways of man,
And don’t obey the words of Christ,
You nullify the words of God,
And you hold to the ways of man.

What comes out of a man’s mouth is
What makes him unclean and dirty.
The things that come out of the mouth
Come from the heart, from within him.
The heart of man is so sinful;
From his nature, out comes evil:
Lying, cursing, greed and malice,
Lust and lewdness, deceit, slander.

Jesus calls us to obey him;
Turn from our sins; follow His ways.
Yet, his people honor him with their lips,
but their hearts not with Him.
Their worship of God is in vain.
Their teachings are rules taught by man.
Jesus calls us; gently leads us
To return and follow His truth.

Yesterday morning, the pastor of the church fellowship we now attend preached a sermon on the subject of moving from our initial commitment to Jesus Christ, in inviting him into our hearts and lives to be our Savior and Lord, to becoming fully committed followers of Jesus Christ, being willing to die for our testimony for Jesus Christ, and for the truth of the gospel. Though I did not see the connection between this song and the sermon when the Lord gave me the lyrics yesterday afternoon, the more I have read or sung through them, the more I have seen the connection. Many people come to faith in Jesus Christ, but don’t understand what it means to be fully devoted to Christ, until someone explains to them the cost, the joy, and the blessings of walking daily in fellowship and obedience to Jesus Christ.

Full Release / An Original Work / April 15, 2012

Walking daily with my Savior brings me joy.
Loving Father; precious Jesus;
He’s my Savior and my Lord.
Gently leads me; follow Him.
I’ve invited Him within.
Now abiding in His presence, oh, what peace.
From my self-life He has brought me,
By His mercy, full release.

Hope and comfort, peace and safety Jesus brings
When I daily bow before Him;
Obey freely; do His will.
Follow Him where’er He leads.
Listen to Him; His words heed.
Now obeying his words fully, oh, what love
That He gives me through salvation,
By His Spirit, from above.

Loving Father; precious Jesus, He’s my friend.
With my Savior, by His Spirit,
I will endure to the end.
Share the gospel, tell what’s true.
Witness daily; His will do.
Tell the world of how their Savior bled and died.
On a cruel cross He suffered
So that we might be alive.

The other day I was praying through some present situations in my life. I was feeling weary and I was losing heart over the situation, so I prayed for renewed strength. Then, I pulled out the Bible study we are doing in our ladies’ Tuesday morning Bible study, and I read Hebrews 12:2-3: “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Wow! That immediately spoke to my heart, and the situation I was going through, and God began to fill me with his peace and joy. Then, today, as I prayed for words to a tune the Lord had given me, he led me back to this passage of scripture, and once again he encouraged my heart to rely on his strength.

“In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses you as sons:

‘My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,
because the Lord disciplines those he loves,
and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son.’

Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons…”

Our Eyes on Jesus / An Original Work / April 23, 2012

Based off Hebrews 12:2-13

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus.
Our faith starts and grows in Him,
Who for the joy set before Him
Endured all our sin.
Scorning the shame of the cross,
He sat down beside God above.
He was willing to die for us,
To save us, in love.

Think about the opposition
He endured from sinful men,
So when you go through life’s trials,
You stay strong within.
Knowing all He went through for us
Helps us not grow weak of heart;
Not grow weary; don’t give up;
And not from Him depart.

In your struggle against sin’s ways,
Resist not to shed your blood.
Have you forgotten the words
God spoke to us in love?
“My child, don’t ignore it when
The Lord corrects you; do faint not,
Because the Lord disciplines those
That He loves, of God.”

God rebukes us all for our good;
Share with Him in holiness.
It produces a harvest of
God’s own righteousness.
Therefore, strengthen all within you
That is weak and might give way.
Stand firm in the faith God gives you;
Trust Him and obey.

I was praying and crying through some situations in my life, seeking the Lord’s wisdom, counsel and direction, and asking him to cleanse me of all impurities, when he gave me the words to this song, which expressed so well the prayer of my heart to him. I also read through all of Matthew 8, which recorded various situations where Jesus miraculously healed people. Matthew said that Jesus’ healing ministry was a fulfillment of the prophet Isaiah’s words concerning Jesus, as recorded in Isaiah 53:4a (quoting vv. 4-5 NIV ’84):

“Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.” 4a: “Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried” (NASB). Amen!

Broken and Contrite / An Original Work / May 13, 2012

I come before You, Lord, my Savior,
With humble heart and crushed in spirit.
I bow before You, I implore You,
Heal my broken heart, I pray.
Love You, Jesus, Lord, my master,
You are the King of my heart.
Lord, purify my heart within me;
Sanctify me, whole within.
I come before You, Lord, my Savior,
With humble heart and crushed in spirit.
I bow before You, I implore You,
Heal my broken heart, I pray.

Oh, Lord, I long to obey fully
The words You’ve spoken through Your Spirit.
I pray You give me grace and mercy,
Strength and wisdom to obey.
Father God, my heart’s desire,
Won’t You set my heart on fire?
Lord, cleanse my heart of all that hinders
My walk with You, now I pray.
Oh, Lord, I long to obey fully
The words You’ve spoken through Your Spirit.
I pray You give me grace and mercy,
Strength and wisdom to obey.

Oh, Jesus, Savior, full of mercy,
My heart cries out for understanding.
I want to follow You in all ways,
Never straying from Your truth.
Holy Spirit, come in power,
Fill me with Your love today.
Lord, mold and make me;
Your hands formed me;
Live Your life through me, I pray.
Oh, Jesus, Savior, full of mercy,
My heart cries out for understanding.
I want to follow You in all ways,
Never straying from Your truth.

I was praying for various people I love who are still blinded by sin’s deceitfulness. My heart was heavy with care and concern for their lives. I began praying this first verse to the Lord, which is actually Jesus’ commission to Paul as recorded in Acts 26:16-18, before it actually became the first verse to this song. Then, the Lord directed me to put these words to the music he had given me. He then led me to Ephesians 4 and Romans 12 and several other passages of scripture, and he used them to put words to this song, “Teach Them,” which is about us sharing the gospel and the love of Jesus Christ, so that others can come to know Christ, and then teaching them by word and by example what it means to live for Christ.

Teach Them / An Original Work / May 24, 2012

Based off various scriptures

Open up the blinded eyes of
Those who walk in sin’s darkness.
Turn them to the light of Christ
And to His righteousness.
Turn them from the pow’r of Satan.
Turn them to the peace of Christ,
So they may receive forgiveness
And eternal life.

Teach them to put off their old selves
And their former way of life,
And to put on their new self,
Reborn to be like Christ;
To not copy worldly customs;
Be transformed in life and mind;
Obey freely His word in them,
Pleasing unto God.

Teach them how to love their neighbors
Truly as they love themselves;
Be a witness; share the gospel;
Satan’s lies dispel;
Comfort all who mourn in sadness;
Share Christ’s love and joy today.
Do this through your life and witness
For your Lord always.

Jesus began talking with the crowds and with his disciples, warning them against becoming like the Pharisees and the teachers of the law. They were so caught up in the externals of religion and with following their traditions that they failed to show love, justice and mercy. They twisted and distorted the word of God for their own advantage. They were hypocrites, for they did not practice what they preached. They loved to be honored and recognized in public places, and worked hard at appearing righteous on the outside, though they were full of wickedness on the inside. Jesus is still warning us against such attitudes and hypocrisy in our own lives, and against following after such leaders or becoming just like them.

Seven Woes / An Original Work / May 31, 2012

Based off Matthew 23

Woe to you, teachers of the law;
Hypocrites, you keep men from God.
You refuse to obey the truth,
Nor will you permit others to.
You travel o’er land and sea
To win a single convert to you.
When he becomes one
You make him twice as much
A “son of hell” as you are.

Woe to you, blind guides of mankind.
You distort the words of your God.
By your practices you declare
Your oaths mean nothing, though you swear.
You give a tenth of your spices,
But you neglect justice, mercy.
When you focus your
Time and talents on
What is external, you miss out.

Woe to you, who appear so clean,
When inside you are crass and mean.
You work hard to look so upright,
While you hide all your sins inside.
You deceive yourselves when you think
You would not have done what others
Did to God’s messengers
And prophets of old,
For you will do much the same.
You’re to blame.

In this song, Jesus is speaking to us, asking us to obey his word, to follow him, to walk in all his ways, to give our hearts and lives to him, to live for him each day, and to be his servant witnesses in sharing his love, grace and his plan of salvation with others who need Christ in their lives. He has a plan and a purpose for our lives, which we can experience if we will but yield to that purpose. It begins with turning from our sins and to make him Lord and master of our lives, for he died for us on a cross so that we could be free of sin and free to worship him.

He Gives Purpose / An Original Work / June 9, 2012

“Listen to Me when I’m calling to you.
Obey freely My word.
Follow Me in all of My ways.
Do all that I say.
Hear Me gently whisper to you
My will for your life and future.
Give all of your life and heart to
Follow Me always.”

Repent of your sins and worship Jesus.
He’s your Lord and Master.
He died for your sins so you could
Live with Him today.
He has a plan for your life and
He gives purpose and direction.
He gives meaning to your life,
So follow Him today.

“I love you so much I gave My life for
You to walk in My ways,
Living for Me each day as you
Bow to Me and pray.
Witness for Me of your love for Me and
Of My grace and mercy,
How I died to save you of your
Sins now and always.”

Isaiah and Jeremiah were prophets of God in Old Testament times. When they spoke in the name of the Lord God Almighty, they spoke the exact words of God for his people, i.e. they were the word of God. All the law and the prophets were fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Word (see John 1). He is God. We have the written word, the Bible, and we have the Living Word, Jesus Christ, via his Holy Spirit, living within those of us who are truly His. He speaks his words into our hearts, and he speaks out through us, his servants. We are his witnesses. We are to teach, encourage, strengthen, counsel, and give guidance. All of that comes from his written word and from the Living Word living within us and out through us, and in the power of his Holy Spirit touching our mouths and giving us the words to speak.

He Touched My Mouth / An Original Work / June 13, 2012

Based off Isaiah 6:1-8; Jeremiah 1:4-9

Oh, I saw the Lord
Seated on His throne,
High and lifted up;
Holy is the Lord!
The earth is full
of His glory.
“Woe to me,” I cried,
“I’m of unclean lips.”

My Lord touched my mouth
With His cleansing pow’r;
Removed all my guilt,
Paid for by His blood.
He asked, “Whom shall I send;
Who will go for us?”
I said, “Here am I.
Send me!”

Before I was born,
God set me apart;
He appointed me
To His servant be.
I said, “I don’t know
How to speak.
I am but a child.”
Then, the Lord replied:

“Do not say to me,
‘I am but a child.’
You must go to all,
And do what I say.
Do not fear them,
For I’m with you.”
My Lord touched my mouth;
Gave me words to say.

When Jesus spoke of his sheep, he was speaking of his true followers. They hear the voice of the Lord, they listen attentively to his words, they obey what he says, and they follow him wherever he leads them. They find forgiveness and salvation. This is the mark of a true disciple of Jesus Christ. A stranger, whom he called a thief and a robber, is a false christ or a false teacher whose mission is to lead the sheep astray into another gospel – a gospel of men. Jesus’ true sheep will not recognize the voice of a false teacher, in fact, they will discern the error, and thus will not follow the stranger, and, in fact, will run away from him.

My Sheep / An Original Work / June 24, 2012

Based off John 10:1-18 NIV

My sheep hear me. They know me.
They listen to my voice and obey.
I call them and lead them.
They know my voice, so they follow me.
They will never follow strangers.
They will run away from them.
The voice of a stranger they know not;
They do not follow him.
My sheep hear me. They know me.
They listen to my voice and obey.
I call them and lead them.
They know my voice, so they follow me.

So, I tell you the truth that
I am the gate, so you enter in.
Whoever does enter
Will find forgiveness and will be saved.
Nonetheless whoever enters
Not by the gate; other way,
He is the thief and a robber.
Listen not, the sheep to him.
So, I tell you the truth that
I am the gate, so you enter in.
Whoever does enter
Will find forgiveness and will be saved.

Oh, I am the Good Shepherd,
Who laid his own life down for the sheep.
I know them. They know me.
They will live with me eternally.
The thief only comes to steal and
Kill and to destroy the church.
I have come to give you life that
You may have it to the full.
Oh, I am the Good Shepherd,
Who laid his own life down for the sheep.
I know them. They know me.
They will live with me eternally.
They know my voice, so they follow me.

A Psalm of David: “The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?” ~ When we receive Jesus Christ into our hearts and lives to be Savior and Lord of our lives, we should understand that he is absolutely in control of our destiny. Nothing will happen to us but he has allowed it, and he has allowed it for a purpose in our lives, and for his glory. It does not mean we will not ever feel fear (the emotion), but that we have no reason to ever give way to fear to where we allow it to control our lives and our choices in life. Jesus may not rescue us from our circumstances, but he will always be there to bring us safely (spiritually) through them.

Hear my Voice / An Original Work / July 9, 2012

Based off Psalm 27

The Lord is my great salvation.
He’s the stronghold of my life.
When my enemies attack me,
My heart will not fear at all.
Though a war break out against me,
Confident in Christ I’ll be.
Of the Lord, I ask that I may
Live with Him eternally.

Hear my voice, Lord, when I call you.
Merciful to me You’ll be.
Though my relatives forsake me,
My Lord God will receive me.
Teach me Your way, O my Jesus.
Lead me in Your righteousness.
I will sacrifice to my Lord.
I will sing with joyfulness.

I am confident that I will
See the goodness of the Lord.
All the richness of His blessings,
My Lord has for me in store.
He asks me to be of courage;
To be strong and to take heart,
Patiently as I wait for Him,
And from Him to ne’er depart.

The Lord knows us because he made us. He knit us together in the wombs of our mothers. That means we were born into the families into which we were born, not by mistake, and not by coincidence, or by an act of nature, but by divine appointment and the will of God. He purposed that we should have the parents we had, even knowing what bad may happen to us, because he has a purpose and a plan for each of our lives. All that we go through in our lives serves a unique purpose in molding us into the people God intends us to be. So, I thank and praise the Lord for how he made me, and that he loved me enough to mold me into someone he could use for his divine will and purposes to bring others to Jesus Christ.

Search Me, O God / An Original Work / July 12, 2012

Based off Psalm 139

O Lord, You search and know me.
You know all that I do.
O Lord, You discern my ways.
I put my trust in You.
Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Where can I flee from Your presence?
Where’er I am, You are with me,
Guiding me in love.
O Lord, You search and know me.
You know all that I do.
O Lord, You discern my ways.
I put my trust in You.

O Lord, You made and formed me
In my own mother’s womb.
Your hands beautif’ly made me.
I give my praise to You.
My frame was not hidden from You
When I was made in the dark place.
All the days ordained for me
Were written in Your book.
O Lord, You made and formed me
In my own mother’s womb.
Your hands beautif’ly made me.
I give my praise to You.

O Lord, how precious to me
Are Your thoughts, O my God.
When I wake in the morning,
You are still here with me.
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offense.
Lead me in Your truth.
O Lord, how precious to me
Are Your thoughts, O my God.
When I wake in the morning,
You are still here with me.

This passage in Isaiah 40 is an encouragement to us today to speak to our own people and to the church, proclaiming who God is and all that he has done and desires to do for us. We are not to be afraid of the people, but we are to boldly share aloud the truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He is our shepherd. He gathers us in his arms and carries us close to his heart. He who created all things, and who sustains all things can take care of us and our circumstances. Our lives are not hidden from God. He knows what we are going through. He has not forgotten us. He will give us the strength and power we need to make it through each day. We just need to trust him with all that is going on in our lives, and he will renew our strength so that we can walk this Christian life and not grow weak, weary or lose heart.

Here is Your God! / An Original Work / July 18, 2012

Based off Isaiah 40:9-31 NIV

You who bring
good tidings to Zion,
Lift up your voice;
raise with a shout,
And do not be
afraid of the people.
Say, “Here is your God!”
See how the Lord God
Comes now with power.
His arm rules for Him;
His reward with Him.
He tends His flock
Just like a shepherd,
His lambs in His arms.

Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
Has it not been told you
From beginning?
Our Lord sits
Enthroned above all things.
None to Him compare.
Lift up your eyes
And look to the heavens.
Who made all of these?
Who calls them by name?
Because of His great
Power and strength,
All accounted for.

Why do you say,
“My way is hidden
From the Lord, and
My cause forgotten”?
Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord, He is your God.
He will not weary.
He gives us power.
Those who trust in Him
Will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings
Just like eagles;
Walk and do faint not.

This passage from Isaiah 55 is an urgent call to come to or to return to the Lord and to be restored to a right relationship with God. The people, evidently, were complacent and settled in their worldliness and wickedness, like some of us may be today. So, God asks us why we waste our money and energies on what will never satisfy us. He counsels us to come to him, and to receive his living water welling up in us unto eternal life, i.e. the Spirit of God, or else to receive spiritual refreshment and renewal. The call is urgent, because we never know if we have tomorrow. We must turn from our sins, and turn to God via faith in Jesus Christ. God’s word will be fulfilled. He will pardon our sins when we turn from our wickedness, and we experience his grace and mercy. Then he will restore us and will bless us with great spiritual blessings. The return to God will be accompanied by much joy and peace, and will produce much spiritual fruitfulness to the glory of God.

Seek the Lord / An Original Work / July 20, 2012

Based off Isaiah 55

“Come to Me all you who thirst; come to waters.
Listen to Me, and eat what’s good today,
And your soul will delight in richest of fare.
Give ear to Me, and you will live.
I have made an eternal covenant with you.
Wash in the blood of the Lamb.”

Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him.
Let the wicked forsake his way, in truth.
Let him turn to the Lord, and he will receive mercy.
Freely, God pardons him.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,”
declares the Lord, our God.

“My word that goes out of My mouth is truthful.
It will not return to Me unfulfilled.
My word will accomplish all that I desire,
And achieve the goal I intend.
You will go in joy, and be led forth in peace.
The mountains will burst into song… before you,
And all of the trees clap their hands.”
