Actually, no, it can't Our God is the first cause of everything. Lightning, thunder, etc. Trace it all back, you'll find a reason for everything. When you get to a point of I don't know, you've figured it out-God.
Why do we aspire to further the wellbeing of others?
It seems to me that, when you get to a point of "I don't know," the only intellectually honest thing to do would be to admit that you don't know, not to claim that you've figured it out. When you get to a point of I don't know, you've figured it out-God.
No, I said our God is everything, where do you get 'gaps'. Also, the naturalistic explanation of the world is just another way of saying "God did it".So yours is a god-of-the-gaps.
How does that differ from a naturalistic explanation of the world, other than replacing "I don't know" with "God did it"?
I don't believe that explains why, though. It is true, but doesn't explain why.In a cooperative society, your well-being is directly dependent on the well-being of those around you.
If you are saying that not knowing how something works implies that Goddidit, then you are arguing from ignorance. No, I said our God is everything, where do you get 'gaps'. Also, the naturalistic explanation of the world is just another way of saying "God did it".
See, you won't answer the question. When you do, I'll continue. Then relate it to the topic. Remember, we are discussing this supposedly rock-solid case you claim to have. At what point do you intend on presenting this case?
I have an iPhone. When I got it, it said "Designed by Apple". When I got it, I didn't bother to read the manual, because I knew the basics of how it works. As I went on, I got more and more details of what it could do, but I never really got to know all it could do. I could read books, do research on the internet, and find out more and more, but the only way I could know fully what an iPhone can do is to know the designers. If you are saying that not knowing how something works implies that Goddidit, then you are arguing from ignorance.
I'm not interested in a game of twenty questions. I'm interested in seeing this case you claim to have. You've led us along for a number of pages, so I'm curious to see what you actually have.See, you won't answer the question. When you do, I'll continue.
You are claiming that the information in it is scientific, though. But it's not.How so?
So you do recognize them.
I never claimed it to be a book of science.
What writings would those be?It can be inferred from how they described the world around them in their writings.
Exactly! They didn't have the perspective we have now, and until they did, they couldn't come to the conclusion we did later. But it does show that heavenly bodies were generally disc-shaped.And how would it look if things were not going around and around, and it was actually the Earth that was rotating?
Ergo, the world, going forward, knew it wasn't flat. How does this demonstrate the non-flatness of the Earth?
So?
If someone would take the questions I'm asking seriously, we might get there. I'm not holding my breath, though.Yet you fail to deliver on that claim.
This is an example of an argument from ignorance:I have an iPhone.
In other words, I can know very intimately how something works yet not know it all. To know it all, in our world, I have to admit I don't know it all and trust in the designer-God. Big difference from "arguing from ignorance". I would agree that you're arguing from ignorance, though.
If you don't know, Root of Jesse, then why would you assert that you've figured it out? When you get to a point of I don't know, you've figured it out-God.
I would have to look at your belief system and see if it agrees with mine. Not necessarily religious beliefs, but moral beliefs, at least. If you were what I consider to be moral, I'd give you the benefit of the doubt that you're not lying to me. At least I would know that yo believe it, whether or not I do.And how would you determine whether to believe my story?
It doesn't have to be the choir, dude, but it does need to be someone sincerely interested in a discussion. I'll not waste time with people who just sit there with arms folded going, "no it's not, no it doesn't". Someone sincere will at least follow along in an argument. So far, no one has.If you have proof, it should be able to stand on it's own merits.
If you need someone who already agrees with you, so you can preach to the choir, it doesn't say much for your argument.
Yours, maybe. I've shown that I know a lot of things about my iPhone, but that the best source would be with the designer. This is an example of an argument from ignorance:
Because I have faith that God allows me to know what I need to know.If you don't know, Root of Jesse, then why would you assert that you've figured it out?
See, you guys like to put people in categories, or their arguments, or whatever. As if you know what the argument really is. You might know it intellectually, but I can tell you don't know it in your heart. I used to be that sort of man, myself-had it all in my head. A know-it-all, like you. I know better now.Wow... just... wow.
I don't think I've ever encountered a more blatant god-of-the gaps / argument from ignorance. Not even on fstdt.com
Could you demonstrate how I have argued from ignorance?Yours, maybe.
In what way does your ignorance imply that a deity must be at work?Because I have faith that God allows me to know what I need to know.
Now you're a know-nothing?See, you guys like to put people in categories, or their arguments, or whatever. As if you know what the argument really is. You might know it intellectually, but I can tell you don't know it in your heart. I used to be that sort of man, myself-had it all in my head. A know-it-all, like you. I know better now.
Do you consider ancient Rome to be one of them 'cooperative society's?In a cooperative society, your well-being is directly dependent on the well-being of those around you.
Hee-haw!Now you're a know-nothing?
