Btw, the vegemite thing isn't a joke!! They are seriously banning it!! Why don't they stop things like achohol and tobacco etc first?!?!? They are more likely to cause cancer/disease/death than vegemite!!!!

I thought it was a joke at first, too, but it's true. The U.S. banned vegemite imports in April 2006 because there is folic acid in it. In the U.S. folate can be legally added only to breads and cereals. Here is an article:

That is such a stupid thing to ban! Besides the obviously harmful things like tobacco that are legal, there are so many chemicals and harmful substances that are legally put into our foods that I don't buy anything without reading the label first because I have no faith in the FDA to tell me what is safe to eat. I don't want them to tell me that I can get my folic acid only from fortified breads and cereals, especially since I make my own bread most of the time and hardly ever buy cereal.
