  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yup, school started here (East TN) yesterday and the kids get out May 19--barring a nasty winter that causes them to miss too many days. I like not having to deal with the sniping between my two (the older one has reached the "Mom, he's looking at me stage and the younger one loves to push her buttons ARGH!!), at least for a few hours.

Oh--brownies are on the table with a big pitcher of milk!

Welcome back dsdumpling! Glad to hear you had a good time. I'll go check out those pictures.

Wow, kids are back in school, celtie! I thought ours started pretty early this year, but your's has ours beat! But it would be nice to get out that early in May.

Bigsierra, did you steal the horse's shoes??? ;) Poor horse!!

I am going to our State Fair tomorrow. My favorite part is the food (if you couldn't guess!). That's really one of the reason's I go. There is a stand that sells the best roasted corn I have ever had. My mouth is already watering just thinking about it......:yum: And BBQ! There is the best BBQ there. And ice cream, and fudge, and potato curls, and kettle corn.....

/me thinks I will be returning with a stomach ache.......

I didn't steat them. He loaned them to me :D

School starts here on the 16th. It really does seem early though. We had a lot of things we still wanted to get done.

Welcome back dsdumpling. I will check your pics too :)

mmm, BBQ. I hope you have fun at the fair, wvmtnkid. It sounds great. It's been years since I've been to one. Doh, it looks like ours started yesterday http://www.mostatefair.com/calendar.html

****laying in a stock of Alka-Seltzer for wvmtnkid**** (I can't believe I ate the whole thing :D )

My daughter came home from school the other day all excited. She was given the chance to trade her regular math class for the advanced math, so she did. Then she found out that a) her homeroom changed abit because they wanted all the AM kids together for 2nd period (which is held in homeroom) and b) her locker mate changed from a girl she did not know to one of her best friends! The year is starting out well for her--hope it continues!

dsdumpling,

Those pics reminded me of camp meetings I used to go to when growing up. It was always the hottest time of the year and there weren't a lot of air conditioners around, so I never was too excited about that aspect. Other than the tempratures, those were some great times.

Neat pics, Dawn! What a beautiful group of children. I never went to camp as a kid. I think that is why I have enjoyed going on the retreat and mission trips with our youth group now. I am having my second childhood! :)

I like the animals at the fair too! I also like the John Deere tractors. One day I hope to own one. One of those big ones with the air conditioned cabs.....Anyway, a couple of years ago, I was going through the barn with the goats and one seemed very friendly. I was petting him and talking to him. When I went to leave, he spit on me!! I didn't know goats could spit. Camels, yes, goats, I had no clue. Anyway, now, I don't get too friendly with the goats. One of the youth in my youth group is in the horse show, so I hope she will be competing while we are there and I can watch her.

bigsierra, I guess as long as the horse loaned them to you, it's ok. Still, that poor shoeless horse. Hope he didn't have to go to the fair without his shoes.....:D

Sounds like your daughter is having a good first week at school, celtie! Hope the year continues to be so for her. And I am just remembering you sat brownies and milk on the table. How could I have forgotten that!?!?!?

It sounds like you had perfect weather. Do you all have a cafeteria where everyone eats? Ours would have 3 meals a day and they were always awesome. Lots of real food. Mashed potatos and gravy and lots of garden things.

It looks like some of those cabins, in the pics, have fronts that open all the way up. Am I seeing that right? Do they open it all the way up, so they can hear the preacher?

Hey Theo  I think there is some ice cream left.

bigsierra, there are 47 "tents" in a circle around an open tabernacle. We eat in our cabins. They are open in the front, have a kitchen in the back, upstairs is where you sleep. There is also a "boarding tent" that has daily meals like a restaurant. They also offer sandwiches. There is also a consession stand that has candy and ice cream...(I put on 5 lbs at camp this year..chocolate...). I've gone there all my life. It runs for 12 days each year, starts the last Wednesday of July. If you're ever in DE around that time..come on and join us.
