  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

One question-- please recommend a kids bible for a bright 6 year old girl. I've been looking for one that's something like "The Little Woman's something..." I want one that's in line with Church of the Nazarene beliefs. She has several--but mostly toddler things that lay foundation with stories.

Thanks All-- you're all so kind and welcoming!

Jenelis,

My daughter has been using a Bible called "the Treasure Study Bible" since she was about 7. It is the full NIV text, single column print and uses the Thompson Chain-reference to create treasure hunts thru the Bible for studying different topics.
It also include a daily devotions guide, the treasure map-starting place for all the treasure hunts, begins with a topic (ie-bad Friends) some questions to think about and the first verse of the hunt to find the answers. At the end of the hunt is the treasure chest which helps sum up what you (hopefully) learned on your quest. It is a Kirkbride publication. My daughter loves it!

My son uses the Adventure Bible for Young readers-again it is the full NIrV text, 2 column print with study helps throughout. These are divided into "Life in Bible times", People in Bible times", "Let's Live It!" (tied to a bible principle or story), "Words to Treasure" (key verses for memory work) and "Did You Know? (discovery questions and the answers with bible verse). It is a ZonderKidz publication.

From the slightly battered condition of each of these you can surmise they have been well used over the past few years.
Speaking of kids and Bibles reminds me of something I miss from the Methodist churches I have attended. When children reached the 3rd grade they were given a Bible of their own. In the non-denom we now attend, no Bibles are given by the chuch until graduation from HS. The parents are expected to provide Bibles for their younger children, but most do not do so until the child is in 6th or 7th grade. We got more than a few odd looks when our kids started toting their own Bible at age 7, but we felt it was important.

Celtie

**PS--blueberry pie (to go with the apple and the strawberries and ice cream) has appeared on the table--still warm!

Okay, this has been a weird few days.

First, hubby decides we are going tenting in VA (Grayson Highlands area). I hate tenting!! Sleeping on the ground holds no appeal and the air mattress tends to not hold air thru the nite. Woke up at 3am uncomfortable, in pain* and unable to breathe--all due to the mattress swallowing me! Moved to the van where I was no longer in pain and able to breathe, but, having no spare blanket, I was cold.
Other than that the trip was fun--we went hiking and saw the wild ponies, cooked on the campfire and made smores.

Then I get home and NO CF!!!! Almost had a panic attack--thought I had lost all you guys

So---- I have brought a HUGE chocolate cheesecake :yum: for everyone to dive into.

Celtie

*pain was mainly due to an electrolyte imbalance that has been plaguing me off and on for the past few years. Keep your hands off my bananas and Gatorade and no one will get hurt ;) .

Celtie-I have an air mattress that does the same thing! Some of the boys in our youth group have the same exact air mattress and theirs stays up for days. Not mine. It can't make it 8 hours without deflating. They tried to tell me it was how I was sleeping on it!---> I miss that smilie!

dsdumpling-Have fun! I hope all goes well. You'll have to tell us all about it when you get back! :)

TCapp-I have been wondering where you were. I am sorry to hear you are not feeling well.'s and :prayer:'s and some chicken noodle soup!

Chocolate cheesecake and lasagne! :yum:
