  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

OOC:Face of Evil

ok, I'm really, Really tired of my posts getting wiped away because Internet explorer keeps crashing on me. Here is the summery:

You can be a villain if you wish, Paladin, but I really was not planning on one.

As far as soldiers, they are traveling teachers and lore masters. They can also act as high judges should the need arise. They can become elder soldiers, which have access to the vast stores of information the soldiers and High Elders have stored up. They also have more control over the Guard, the only real police force of Janus Island. Otherwise, they also have the same responsibilities as regular soldiers, but more of a leader role. High Elders, the next stage, are the law makers of the lands and I will give more information about them as they become more relevant to the story. That about sums up soldiers.

What I really would like is someone to take the Shopkeeper combo, and preferably someone of the feminine persuasion.

I'll give it a shot. I am not that great at keeping my villains evil anyway, so I wont even try, haha.

Say, you should get Mozilla Firefox. Its a new Internet server/whatever thingy, and it isnt as quirky as IE. Its free and takes very little time to download.

Hey Shadow, and welcome back! It's a very interesting story, and I'd like to jump on.

I'd like to be

Kamahl- male/ G / Mogician + Kyle- male/ J / Rogue... age 16. If you need them older just say so, it doesnt really matter.

If you have any characters you really need me to be, then i'll take those.

But- what, exactly, are the limits to being a Mogician?

Upvote 0
Certainly, Shocka, good to see you again. Those would be fine. They are rather young to have jobs already, but that can be fine if you come up with some sort of history for each, ie, Kamahl is a child prodigy, or maybe Kyle could have been orphaned somehow and adopted by a rouge. I'm sure you'll think of something.

As far as mogicians, I really haven't come up with much as to what they can do. Soooo, I'll wing it.

Mogicians are split into three main branches:
Healer mogicians
Research mogicians
Field mogicians
Each works with the mystical power produced by the Great Mountain. They are all taught how to manipulate it to their will. However, each does so in different ways.
Healers study anatomy and biology, and other sciences of life. They study how to use mogic to heal wounds quicker and more completely. I won't go into the boring details of cellular reproduction and such, but they are mostly concerned with the well being of the people they can help.
Researchers are the scientific side of mogic. They want to know how mogic works and why it exists. They are essential to developing new ways of using mogic and as such are the most rounded users of mogic. However, some focus their studies to such an extent that they neglect other areas of mogic in favor of researching only those areas that deal with their desired studies. They are mostly concerned with ways they can improve the uses of mogic.
Fielders are the more adventurous Geminin, going out and actually studying mogic in action. They are interested in the practical uses of mogic in every day life, whether it is lighting a fire or pouring a glass of water. Fielders are often more specialized in their studies. Not many Fielders care as to why things work, but more along the lines of how things work and how can they work better. Often fielders are good at teaching others to use mogic even in simple things.
For some reason, Janas are not able to use mogic, and thus must rely on the mogical objects created by a fourth type of mogicians, itemsmiths. Itemsmiths are able to invent or, in some cases, create items that tap into mogical powers. These are often shipped to the Janas in exchange for Janas goods. Itemsmiths are not affiliated with the AMS(Allegiance of Mogical Studies) and therefore are not technically classified as a mogician even though they are one.

That about sums mogicians. There is much possibility as to what a mogician can do. Use your creativity and I'm sure you can come up with something.

That helps me out, I guess I'll have Rio come from a long line of mogicians, not all the same branch but some generations were a different branch and his late father was a Healer mogician and on his spare time work on his studies on soulkins and Rio is also a Healer mogician but his library back home has books of each his family mogician's studies.

You mean the professor/soldier character? The shopkeeper is a different one, and I would prefer the role be played by a girl, but if someone does not come soon, I might just make up those characters and play them until someone else does. I'd rather have the person playing them make them up, that way the character(s) will become their own, but time waits for no man, and ironically, it doesn't wait for me either.

Let me see, the way I had pictured that character was mid-50's. The professor was extremely cautious, and the elder soldier extremely daring, so that the two worked as counter balances. I've gone over this before, so I don't need to rebrief you there. But really, just make them however you want them to be. These are your characters now. You want the stock job, it's all yours, and gladly given! I can tell you some guidelines, like I just did, but basically stick to the skeleton I gave the second or third post and be creative.
Oh, except for one thing, I need the soldier to be a bit unorthodox. You know, thinking outside the box, trying everything until something works. You can make him laid back or "in-your-face" as to how he goes about it, but I need him to be a risk-taker. Other than that, they're all yours to make how you see fit. You can stick to my recommendations, or you can do the complete opposite(though NOT recommended) Once you get the characters set up, I'll start to PM you info like history and legends and you will get to be the first to know the prophecy. (Don don don!)
Before you make your final decision, I will warn you, that character is important for a lot of plot information, so you will have to write longer passages and be creative. I'm not going to give you everything, after all. Once you get a feel for how things work(Maybe after Chapter two or so, if we ever get there) on Janus Island, you will have to start coming up with history and legends yourself. Don't worry, I'll still be around if you have questions, so feel free to ask if ever you have one.
Like I said from the get-go, if this goes well, I want to turn it into a book. And if it doesn't, well, you will all get a big, BIG thank you at the beginning of the book, because I still intend to write it even if this doesn't work.

And this to Roseduelist, thank you so much already for everything you've done. I would have thought that Rio was more of a Researcher, but hey, he's your character. You have the right to make him whatever you want. Just, it's not likely(note: not likely, but still possible) that a Healer would perform those experiments on people, since they look out for the well-being of people.

I could be the shopkeeper (if that's the "girl-job", and if you think I'm old enough...) Ehm, I'm not sure I get all this, but I'm trying. What's this girl/woman supposed to do? Why is she so important? I'd like to get some "background-information" before inventing her...

squigui, you are more than welcome.

Ok, some background:

Female Geminin shopkeeper/Female Janus shopkeeper

Basically, the reason that this character is so important is that she is Aqy's best friend and one of the few people who knows his secret. She was first introduced to Aqy through their soldier teacher, who is likely going to be played by P.Dave. They were schooled together, making it easier on Aqy since he now had a friend he could relate to. They are about the same age, no more than a years difference.
A year before finishing, her father became very ill, and she and her mother had to manage the family store until he recovered. It was during this time that her father officially gave her the shop. She was able to finish her studies under the soldier, but not until after Aqy had finished and took his job as a courier. She was actually the one responsible for Aqy taking the job, as she first asked him to pick up a shipment down at the wharves. She has since been faithfully and successfully running Crosswinds' Market. Her soulkin, seeing the success that her partner was having, and giving in to her numerous pleas, decided to open a Crosswinds' Market on the Geminin side of the island, which has also been very successful.
Since she is Aqy's best friend, she very much enjoys his presence. While she finds it strange that Aqy does not have a soulkin, she likes him for who he is and sees great potential in him. She knows to stay away from the issues of soulkin while in his company, unless he brings it up. Both she and her soulkin are glad to have Aqy as a friend, and a part of her deep down inside kind of wishes it was a little more, even if she doesn't realize it yet.
Also, she and her soulkin have a very good relationship.

Other than that, it is completely up to you. You can give them nearly any sort of personality that you want and any sort of history you want. Take them and make them your own. If you want some tragedy to have befallen her Geminin, you can do that. Or you can have them both seemingly living the perfect life. It is completely up to you. My suggestion is to make them friendly and out-going with similar personalities, but that is my suggestion. These will be your characters, to make and form however you see fit.
The reason I do this is because I want you to become attached to the character. I want the characters to belong to you, so that you will understand them, be able to get inside their minds, in essence, become friends with them. It is said that imaginary friends should only belong to two people, children and great authors. I often times will be thinking about a problem in my life and think, "I wonder how Shandrey(one of my other characters from a different book) would handle this," or, more recently, things like "Now I know how Aqy feels." Not to say that I am a great author, but I would like to think of myself that way ^_^. So take these characters and make them live, by putting a bit of yourself into them and making them yours.

If you have any other questions, like about how things work, or something you don't understand, please ask. But I have a feeling that the only way you will completely understand it is to get in there and see what it's like.

Ok, I was thinking that as a job Rio heal people but part time he would work on his studies on soulkins like his father.

Here is my hack at some characters. Tell me what you think, Shadow. This will take the Elder soldier and Prof. stock.

Character name J): Brok Schneider
Character genders J): Male
Character age: 43(I can make them older if needed.)
Character jobs J): Elder Soldier
Phys. description(J): Brok is a large man, very muscular and very tall, but with a bit of flab. He has pale skin with many scars on it from old wounds. He has a neck length grown beard with a few whisps of grey, as well as incredibly short hair that looks non-existant from a distance. He has icy blue eyes and a rounded, usually cheerful face.
Personality(J): Brok is generally very kind and cheerful, and is a chivalrous man. As he says, he may not be bright, but he isnt stupid. He likes helping those in need, and it is his choice way of showing appreciation to someone. Despite his kind nature, he can be quite unforgiving when made angry. He has a strong code of ethics, and has high respect to women. He is fairly conservative, and new, radical ideas can puzzle him, but he does his best to try and keep up with those around him.
Special talents J): Brok is considered to be very strong, and it has helped him out for saving his skin once or twice as well as for helping with manual labor. He has been known to have the occasional good idea as well, and was blessed with some leadership ability, mostly from his simple charm.
[Optional info]
Brief history: Brok was the oldest of 5 children, and was given the most responsiblity of the group. He was not the wisest, but he could get jobs done well and always strived to do his parents' will. (I am still unsure of what the soldiers are supposed to do, so I will leave this out for now.)
Best feature:Lives to help others and be a friend.
Worst feature: He is somewhat naive, and has been suckered into a few messes in his time.

Character name G): Zofia Krukov
Character gender G): female
Character age: 43
Character jobs G):professor
Phys. description(G): Zofia is a woman of medium build and height. She has long, red hair with some grey woven in, that she keeps in a bun on the back of her head. She has hazel eyes and slightly tanned skin. She wears thick glasses and casual clothing.
Personality G): Zofia enjoys quiet, but still likes to be with her friends from time to time. She is considered to be very intelligent and witty, but only when in a good mood. When in a sour mood, her words can cut like a sword. She lacks Brok's code of ethics, and is not afraid to get people out of her way to get what she wants if she REALLY wants it.
Special talents G): Zofia can think on her feet and is a great planner. She thinks things through from multiple angles in half the time it would take most, and is considered very resourceful.
[Optional info]
Brief history:Zofia was born to an older couple and was their only child. She spent most of her time studying and reading. She excelled in school and pretty much every other aspect of her life, and learned to compete for what she wanted at an early age.
Best feature:She can think of a solution to almost any problem.
Worst feature: She tends to be apathetic and unfeeling to the misfortunes of others

It is a very interesting combo, I'll give you that. I think it will work perfectly, though.
As far as soldiers, they are nothing like what we would call soldiers. They are primarily as teachers and loremasters, aka, they know a lot. They also serve as judges, which mean that they do know something of combat. But as is the case with us, judges mostly deal with the law. Mostly though, they leave combat to the Guard, the main police force. If you want, you could have him coming up through the guard and then becoming a soldier. Elder soldiers(which is what your character is), however, rarely do any fighting and serve more as overseers of the justice process. High elders, again, make the laws that govern the land. So the chain of command goes: Guard>soldier>elder solder>High Elder. Does that help any?
Also, I would suggest, suggest mind you, that you not make Zofia cold. It's just not a Geminin style. More along the line of apathetic(doesn't care, but not cold) in such cases.
Here is a comparison of a typical G/J responce as fitting to the the above case.

Person: I hate my life.
Typical cold Geminin(smiling, trying to sound sympathetic): Oh, that's nice. (Goes about business)
Typical cold Janas(Glaring, or looking confused): What do I care? (Goes about business)

See the difference? They are both cold, but it different ways, and it would hard to exactly call the Geminin cold. Apathetic is a better word. But it is you character, do as you see fit.

I hope that helps you PD(Mind if I call you PD?). Feel free to jump in now. Just show up to start with, and I'll PM you more details tomorrow.

Sorry, locket, I completely missed your post! Yes You may join, and gladly. Right now for stock characters I still have the shopkeepers open, and the ranger/rouge combo, and the sailors. Squigui mentioned taking the shopkeeper, so you can talk to her on that one. As far as I'm concerned, the first person to create characters for the shopkeeper can have the role, but I would recommend talking with squigui first. A more in-depth description of that character was on the last page. If you are interested in anything, or have any questions, let me know. Oh, and yes, I did come up with this on my own. Thank you, I am glad you like it.

Also, Paladin David, if there's one thing I like about you, it's your interest in German. Vergessen Sie nie Ihre Liebe.

Ok Shadow, anything else I need to fix before getting started? Where/how SHOULd I start?(just for the record, I normally wouldnt be asking so many questions about this, but this is a different and new kind of rp, and I dont want to screw anything up)

BTW, how did you know I like German?

Ok, PD, those characters are fine. The stage is already set for you, so just go ahead, come in and do what seems natural. Right now, you don't really need any history of Janus Island or what not, so just come in and be natural.
As for your love of German, I know it from your names, which are very German, and by your signature. Otto Von Bismarck is one of the greatest Germans to have ever lived, after all.

And Squigui, I don't think I could have made better characters. Those are wonderful! I can already tell it's going to be good working with you!
