This is the OOC for Face of Evil(RPG:Face of Evil). There are a few stock characters I will need. Here they are:

If I think of any other stock characters, I will list them later. If you want to join, let me know here and wait to get the OK from me. Don't worry, you will get it if you ask for it, but if you don't ask, I very likely may decline.

If you want to take a stock character, you will be given special privilages, and special tasks. Example: the person who has the ranger/rogue character will have access to the map of Janus Island, but will also have special responcibilities, such as guide or scout, which will often require you to write longer parts or passages. If you are interested in finding out more about a character, let me know. Also, you will notice that the characteristics are very sketchy. I want people to take these characters and make them their own, give them their own personality.

Anyway, it's late and I'm tired. I'll give more info later.

Isn't it going to get kind of confusing playing two characters. Are they at some point going to be connected physically or is it going to be like 2 stories going on at the same time. Im interested, but it could get cumbersome.

Perhaps I did not make it very clear. Let me clarify. Everyone will be playing two characters, but only one at a time. Everyone will be both a Geminin and a Janas who are soulkins, but you can only be one at a time. The reason you are being two characters is because the people are linked together mentally. Remember, the one is active while the other sleeps. They share a consciousness. The one that is asleep acts as a copilot for the one that is awake. Two minds sharing one consciousness. I really do not think it will get very confusing, so long as people don't try to be confusing.

For basic principles, Geminin are more passive and cautious while Janas are more aggressive(not violent, but more willing to take action) and daring. Also, Janas are darker in personality(not more evil, but darker. There really is no better way of saying it.) than the Geminin. Other than these, they have as much variety as normal humans. Soulkin may or may not be similar in personality. Example: the Ranger/rogue characters will both be adventurous, but naturally the Janus will be more of a risk-taker. Contrawise, the professor/soldier personalities are very different. The Geminin professor is extremely cautious while her Janas Soldier soulkin is extremely daring. Together, they create a system of checks and counterbalance. These are my planned personalities, however. The real characters may be like this, or they may be different. It's up to the choice of the person who takes them.

Anyway, if you are interested Flames, and you plan on being around at least once a week, make up characters and join in.

Ok I read your opening for the RPG, and I thought of my characters.

Other details: Normally wears the best clothes he can get. Has a few scars on his body cause of the price for some of the magic, science, and alchemy he has learn.
Personality (G): Sometimes cold hearted, enjoys trying new magic and hungers to learn more.
Special talents (G): Knows alot of magic and science and is practicing with alchemy.
Optional info: Rio is not looking for love right not just more knowledge.
Brief history: Rio has been trying to figure out all his life why he has a soulkin as well as everyone else. He studies magic, science, and alchemy to see if he can find the answer and find a way to change things like to able to see his soulkin or to find a way that the two minds do not have to share one consciousness. Rio wants to know why he has Kao for a soulkin.
Best feature: His large amount of knowledge.
Worst feature: His lack of social skills.

Optional info: Unlike Rio, Kao hopes to find a girlfriend one day.
Brief history: Kao has been a farmer all his life and wonders why is Rio his soulkin when they have nothing in common. Besides that he trys to have a normal life and trys not to worry about Rio.
Best feature: His friendly personality.
Worst feature: He can get too emotional sometimes.

Those are good, only one thing, Rio would be the Geminin, and Kao would be the Janas. Oh, and it's Mogician. Mogic, not magic. Same thing, different name.
You are taking the stock charater, I take it?

FYI: I got the name from Lucky Charms commercials. ("That's me Lucky Charms; they're mogicly delicious.")

Oh I fought you just misspell it. The Janus are the a bit agressive then the Geminin right, but a Janus can be nice and a Geminin can be mean right?

Yes of course. Remember, aggressive does not mean they are violent or mean, just more assertive, more ready to take action, they jump right in while a Geminin would be more meticulous and planned out. But a Geminin could still be more aggressive than a Janas, it's just not the norm for a Janas to be cautious, nor for a Geminin to be daring.

Ok, This is a bit difficult to explain, I guess, so try to stay with me. Soulkin are two people who share the same existance. A Geminin and Janas, who live on opposite sides of the island, exist together as two people who share a single consciousness. Still with me? Let me see if I can make this simpler.
Think of it as a psycic link. The two are connected mentally. They can each see what the other sees, hear what the other hears, and know what the other is thinking. The catch is that only one can be awake at a time. If a Geminin is awake, than his Janas soulkin is asleep, and vice-versa. However, the sleeping soulkin acts as a co-pilot. He cannot make any decisions, but he can help the pilot do the job, or in this case, help the awake soulkin live his life and make decisions.
Soulkins act as advisors, counselors, or just as a friend more often than not. Normally, the awake one is often talking to his soulkin, comparable to talking to oneself, but with someone who answers. Some do it in their heads, others do it aloud, and still others, normally the quieter ones, just don't do it very often. Regardless of the relationship, the soulkin is always present and always aware of what is going on.

There are, obviously, certain "sticky" situations, and here is as good a place as any to bring them up, I guess. Here are some solutions:
1) Death: if one dies, both die. Since they share a consciousness, share a mind, if one part dies, the other cannot live on its own. As to the exact technical details, I really haven't figured that out.
2)Unconsciousness: as likely as not, this issue will come up sooner or later. Really, I don't know what I want to do with it. I am definitely open to suggestions, but if no one can come up with a better plan, I guess that, since the two share one mind at a time, then what happens to one mind happens to the other, so the sleeper would also be rendered unconscious(?). So, yeah, unless someone can come up with something better, if one is knocked out, then both are unconscious.
3) Mental retardation: Let's just not deal with this one, ok. Please?

I really hope that helps some. If you are hopelessly lost, then think of it like this, but only if you are hopelessly lost, because if you think you understand, this might only confuse you: the soulkin is like an imaginary friend who is real, but can only be heard and not seen.
Like I said, this is NOT an easy thing to explain.

It does help, thank you. I am pretty sure I understood. So, could these people ever meet? And can they be polar opposites, or even carbon copies of eachother? Can they be enemies, or are they forced to be friends? Can one control and dominate the other, if a weak and submissive person were coupled with someone of strong will and ambition?

It's all possible(except for them meeting, see below). They are just a different as people are here. But those situations are not the norm. Look at it this way, Paladin, you have to put up with this person all of your life, he knows your every secret, and you have no control over him on his side of the island. If you treat him bad, he will tell all his friends to stay away from you, and they will tell their soulkin, word will spread, see the repercussions? Most people become very good friends with their soulkin, but that is not an automatic.
As far as the domination type thing, it often happens, but it is not done the way you likely think of it. It is more of a system of checks and balances. Example: My soldier/professor combination. In my plan, the soldier is very daring, but the professor is very cautious. However, the soldier will often convince the professor to do things she would never do one her own. Likewise, the professor keeps the soldier from doing things he would normally just jump into(and consequently hurt himself). Checks and balances. Each has their own personality, but they co-exist in the same mind.
However, as far as a weak personality dominated by a strong personality, the same thing would happen as above. It is possible, but people would look down upon it highly and it might go as far as to be considered abuse, punishable by law, and even though it might not stop the situation, counselors(most likely teachers or Mogician healers) would then be used to help the weaker one realize that the dominant one really has no control over him. It would just make for a messy situation. Really the only time that evil situations arises that cannot be resolved is when both partners are evil. Remember, crimes like murder and theft can easily be resolved because there is always an eye witness. Again, this creates some sticky situations of "What if's", but these are all extreme cases and not the norm.

As far as meeting goes, it is not possible. No one can get over the mountains, and if some one tries to sail around, they die of brain aneurysms(Why exactly, no one knows). Mogicians think it has something to do with the force radiated with the Great Mountain. Simply put, that's just the way it is and most people are ok with it.

Personalities: I dealt with this question earlier with the character skeleton, so I'm just going to have to refer you back to that.(Post 3, I think)

Oh, and I just realized that I never explained why Aqy does not have a soulkin. For that, you will just have to follow the story to find out.

Ok, we are really in need of the shop keeper and the soldier before we can go much further. If no one takes these roles, I will play them until someone else takes them. But I would rather have some one take them from the beginning. If you know anyone who might be interested, send them here.

I'll take 'em. I really wanted to try and provide a villain for the game, if you approved, so do you think this would work? And what exactly do soldiers do? I mean, who is the enemy? Are they more like law enforcement?
