  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Does anyone else here ever find it kind of odd when someone posts a ridiculous argument, and then refers to any valid rebuttal as side-barring?

I noticed a funny case of this not long ago when someone posted a thread about homosexuals also being pedophiles. After the rant in their OP was complete, they went on to say "...and please don't side-bar this thread by mentioning cases where straight people have molested children"

I love it when people make an ignorant statement based on a rare occurence, then they consider facts that prove their argument wrong to be side-barring.

Yes, I've noticed that since I've been here. You're going to run into discussions like that, especially in the E&M section. Sometimes it's better to not participate in those discussions, because you can't change people's minds or try to convince them to at least think more about their arguments.

Your faith icon says you're a UU? That's cool!
