I OPd this as I did because I think there are many apostate "ministers" and I might want to keep listing them.

BUT I just happened to be channel flipping and Louis Giglio was on Praise on TBN with the clueless to the real gospel son of Paul Crouch, Matt. Louis Giglio said,
"I DON'T WANT TO FALL IN LOVE WITH THE BIBLE< I WANT TO FALL IN LOVE WITH JESUS>."

HUH? What we call The Bible IS THE WORD = JESUS. JESUS IS THE WORD and the Bible is HIS WORD, GOD'S WORD and without knowing and loving the "Bible" you cannot even begin to know and love Jesus. John 1:1 comes to mind first.

And to think this type of person calls himself a man of God, expositor of the Bible all that, running a church? Is he one who will be crying to God, " LORD LORD have we not done many wonderful works?" How is it that, for his ministry, he hasn't fallen in love with Jesus already? He clearly said, "I WANT to fall in love with Jesus." I don't know folks, I fell in love with Jesus the moment I met Him. :) How about you?

So that is one reason why I won't listen nor follow this guy. Time is too short to be bothering with such a shallow level of understanding imo. I don't not believe one has to 'dumb down' the Gospel just to reach students. THAT'S MY POV. Thought I'd share.

LOUIS GiGLIO

Louie Giglio is the pastor of Passion City Church in Atlanta and founder, with his wife Shelley, of the Passion Conferences, a global youth movement that has helped millions of students encounter Jesus in a relevant and life-changing way. Pastor Giglio is also the author of several bestselling books, including The Comeback, The Air I Breathe, and Goliath Must Fall.

Psalms 119 encourages us to love learning and reading His words.

Hi drjean,

I'm afraid I'm with Mr. Giglio on this one. The bible is a book of compiled Scriptures. It is not Jesus. When the Scriptures tell us that in the beginning was the 'word', it isn't telling us that in the beginning were the Scriptures. The bible is the Scriptures. It is not the 'word' that the Scriptures are referring to when it tells us, 'and the word became flesh'.

God bless,
In Christ, ted

What things about Jesus can a man love if it does not concern those things which are written of Him?
John 14:24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.

For those who missed it:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:1

John calls Jesus the Word because he had come to see the words of Jesus as the truth of God and the person of Jesus as the truth of God in such a unified way that Jesus himself — in his coming, and working, and teaching, and dying and rising — was the final and decisive message of God.
desiringGod ministry.

"Genesis 1 teaches that the world was created by the spoken word of God (note the repeating phrase in Genesis 1, "Then God said..."). So when God the Father determined to created the universe and everything in it, He "spoke" it into existence. But as John said in verse 3, Jesus was the One who made all things, therefore we can say that Jesus was God's logos, or spoken Word."https://www.versebyverseministry.org/bible-answers/how_is_jesus_the_word

Hebrews 4:12 : For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Revelation 19:13 :

Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. He who sat upon it is called faithful and true, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name inscribed which no one knows but himself. He is clad in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is the Word of God.

And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, followed him, the Word of God, on white horses. From his mouth issues a sharp sword with which to smite the nations.

Deuteronomy 4:2: You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

Revelation 22:18-19 : I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. 19 And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.

PLEASE LET ME CLEARER? The book, the paper and ink, that we hold, or the tablet from which we read THE WORD is not THE WORD to be worshipped. If you think of The Bible as only 'containing' the Word of God, or think of The Bible as a display of what God said only, then you are not coming from the same place as I.

Peace.

Hi drjean,

I'm afraid that I'm confused about your purpose in this thread. If I'm understanding your opening post that you wouldn't follow Mr. Giglio because he says that he doesn't love the bible like he loves Jesus, or to be more literal: "I DON'T WANT TO FALL IN LOVE WITH THE BIBLE< I WANT TO FALL IN LOVE WITH JESUS>." But then you close your last comment:
PLEASE LET ME CLEARER? The book, the paper and ink, that we hold, or the tablet from which we read THE WORD is not THE WORD to be worshipped. If you think of The Bible as only 'containing' the Word of God, or think of The Bible as a display of what God said only, then you are not coming from the same place as I.

Perhaps you could better explain what it is that you are in disagreement with about Mr. Giglio's claim. One of the rules that I try to follow as regards 'love', is that love is for people. So, I'm pretty much in agreement that I don't find God wants us to 'love' the Scriptures. We should certainly have an overpowering desire to know them and all that they reveal to us about the things of God, but 'love' the bible? No, that's not for me.

It's a book of ink and paper just as you've said. I believe its purpose is to give us an understanding of all that God has done and is doing in this created realm that we will 'love' Him. The one to whom the Scriptures point.

God bless,
In Christ, ted

Yea well Ted, if he had talked at all about it being paper and ink that he didn't want to fall in love with, if he had said anything about it being a book that he didn't want to love... but he didn't. The way he said it came across as though it was just another book to read about God..and he didn't want to bother with that...it was God's word BUT... and in that he minimized it.

He ministers to young people... no hymns of doctrine, a feel-good do-good theology... tolerance and love and this ethereal love of Jesus....

I don't worship the paper and ink, I worship God's Word Who is also JESUS.

I happen to LOVE GOD's WORD... and want more and more of it...because as I read it, I fall in love with IT - HIM more and more.

The Bible is God's WORD ... anyone arguing that?

Maybe I'll move on to the next watered-down ministry....

Hi drjean,

Well, I just wanted to get a clear understanding of what your disagreement was. As I said, the practice I try to keep is that love is for people. We don't really love chocolate ice cream or roller skating. We might like either of them a lot, but love? Nah!! Love, for me, implies a responsibility to or for. A soulful caring for another person. I certainly delight in reading God's word and learning from the Scriptures and knowing and understanding that it shows me the love that God has for me, but I don't love the Scriptures.

Your Mr. Giglio didn't even refer to the Scriptures, according to your post. He spoke of the bible. I certainly don't love the bible. It's a book and in quite a different format than the Scriptures themselves. The original MSS Scriptures were actually written down painstakingly by hand. The words of a loving God to a being that He had created to love Him and to be loved by Him.

Based on your last statement, I can only assume that you've found televangelism to be rather tiring and I must agree that watching someone on television can be trying to the soul. I've never really been a big fan of TBN and haven't watched it in many, many years. So, I can understand one not caring for that style of ministry, but I'm not crazy about it for other reasons than someone says they'd rather love Jesus than the bible. That would actually be a statement that I would agree with.

God bless,
In Christ, ted

Heb_10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

You are correct.

Also, in order to deceive it is best to keep people away from what the bible teaches so you can teach new things that are not biblical. Using the name of Jesus is a classic way to deceive.

Moving on...

One reason I won't follow:

RICK WARREN.
Founder and Senior Pastor, Saddleback Church, and The Purpose Driven Life, Lake Forest, CA

If there is a top 10 list of false teachers Rick Warren would be on it. Warren has some good things to say, but there is much mixed in that is not good. Problem is many seem oblivious to why what he says is wrong
" the apostasy of Rick warren"

."..now declared unity with Islam under one and the same god. A few months ago the Yale Center for Faith and Culture wrote a letter to the Islamic world on behalf of all Christendom asking forgiveness from the “All Merciful One” (an alternate name for Allah found in the Koran). They went on to establish that Christians, Jews, and Muslims all genuinely love and serve one and the same god of love. The letter then draws theological truths regarding God’s character and central commands from the Koran. Muhammad is referenced and quoted as a true prophet of God, and his life is upheld as an exemplary life of love, faith, and righteous service unto God, on par with Jesus Christ. " https://echristian.wordpress.com/2008/01/15/muslim-apostasy-warning-mclaren-hybels-warren-schuller/

He has about 3000 churches following his apostasy in that many have removed their crosses, choirs, songs that 'claim' Jesus is the Son of God, etc. because those offend moslems. There are many more churches that haven't gone quite to that extreme (I would pray it's because the church body knows better?) but who have signed onto the Yale letter of agreement (partial listing above).
