Maybe it's not, but maybe it is. For what has been determined must take place. I was talking to a smart guy who thinks that the Antichrist is going to claim all of the private property around the world and then divide the land up for a price. But I doubt that's what Daniel means.
That picture of the ten kingdoms that Riberra posts, I have used it also. It's just a good graphic available to use for how it's probably going to be. But you're right, it's just a man made estimate based on the logic of ten worldwide ruling entities.
There's No way those nations will surrender into that 10 divisions.
They won't have to surrender, they'll never be given the option.
It might be 10 big nations, Russia, China, US, Australia etc. the rest of the world will follow.
Those governing bodies will be gone in a day, in One Hour. They'll be in a history. And then the man of sin will divide the land, divide the earth, for a price.
"For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth.
I've been thinking about the Great City, and how it will be split into three parts, split into "thirds". But that's how our God is going to destroy the destroyers of the Earth. Not a "third" will be shown mercy, all three "thirds" will be destroyed. That's total destruction. Unlike the trumpets where 2 thirds are spared.
Before the Great City is destroyed, the man of sin is going to use a foreign god, a god of forces, to divide the Earth up into 10 sections. He causes fire to fall from heaven in the presence of men and a "third" of the earth is burnt up.
Some of this just goes without saying. Like, would Jesus tell us to flee to the mountains, and then hit those wilderness locations with the 1st trumpet? No, He's going to target the notoriously wicked places. You can probably think of certain cities that are known for their debauchery. Well, probably the Capital Cities from around the world who passed the transgressive laws which enable the transgressors will be high on a theoretical list of target areas.
So here's a spooky scenario. Trumpet #1 hits as Paul's sudden destruction, and they do not escape. God can send a billion fragments of fiery hail to intended targets of both people and places. Two people sleeping in a bed, one is "taken", the other is left alive to complete the tribulation. Governments from around the world are wiped out. Thousands of cities are obliterated, and the survivors are fleeing the smouldering destruction.
Trumpets 2 though 4 follow in swift destructive fashion. In the days following the first 3 trumpets, the world's survivors notice something peculiar. They can obviously see that this was no natural meteor shower. Specific people and places were intelligently targeted. Even the NASA scientists and the world's atheists will realize that the God of the Bible has come back and is not very happy. They will begin to take steps to appease Him. They'll say something like: "if we don't do something He's going to kill us all". It is in this environment of total emergency that the mark of the beast will find it's legs. Men's hearts will be failing them for fear of what is coming on the world. They'll think that by persecuting us, God's people, that they're doing God a favor.
Then as this chaos is unfolding trumpet # 5 falls. The abyss is opened up and the man of sin appears with millions of his demonic angels. Lucifer manifests in our visible realm as an angel of light. The second beast rises from the earth. God's People will REMEMBER their Savior's Word's:
"So, if they say to you, ‘Look, he is in the wilderness,’ do not go out. If they say, ‘Look, he is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
The majority of earth's survivors are going to believe the lie, I'm sorry. This is where it happens. With the governments of the world taken out of the picture by the trumpets, the ten kingdoms will fill that void almost instantly, literally overnight. When the Antichrist appears, when the Man of Sin rises from the abyss and is revealed, he will greatly honor those who acknowledge him. He will make them rulers over many people and will DIVIDE the land at a price. The land will be divided into ten kingdoms, the ten toes of Daniel's metal man. He will attack our mightiest fortresses with the help of a foreign god, a god of forces. Our Ohio class submarines will be of no use.
The land will be divided for a price, a cost, that cost being the sudden destruction of our current regime. What a price to pay, what a trap to be sprung on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. We're so used to these things taking place over many long years, this might be so fast that we're not going to have time to think about it. And that might be a good thing. If the first 5 trumpets were to fall quickly, say seven days apart, the ten kingdoms could form in the space of a month or two. And as spooky as that surely sounds, the 371 day great tribulation hypothesis could be a possibility. Just like in the days of Noah.

A third of your people will die of the plague or perish by famine inside you;
A third will fall by the sword outside your walls; and
A third I will scatter to the winds and pursue with drawn sword.

A third of the earth was burned up, and
A third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up.
A third of the sea became blood.
A third of the living creatures in the sea died, and
A third of the ships were destroyed.
A third of the rivers and on the springs of water.
A third of the waters became wormwood,
A third of the sun was struck, and
A third of the moon, and
A third of the stars, so that
A third of their light might be darkened, and
A third of the day might be kept from shining, and likewise
A third of the night.
A third of mankind.
