I never want to throw food out. And hardly ever I do. I just make sure I don’t have too much food which could go bad. If it looks ok I can eat it or give it to my dog. Also I put things which are going to get bad soon to the freezer. If I prepare too much food, again I put it in freezer. And it’s fun to take food from freezer if im having lazy day/busy and want to have ready meal. I always feel very bad if I throw away food. So I just don’t do it.

I used to do food prep for restaurants. Which included taking food health and safety classes. So if food isn't fresh enough, out it goes.

When in doubt, this it out.

Keep hot foods hot or refrigerate immediately.

Be very careful with canned goods. A tiny breech from a dent or a pull tab lid can let in bacteria.

It all depends how old something is.
