I live just outside of Akron. We have the Inventor's hall of fame (with a lot of hands-on stuff), the Aeros minor league baseball team, Goodyear's corporate HQ, Geauga Lake Amusement Park is not far, and Sky-Way Drive-Ins (the burger that birthed Jimmy Buffet's song "Cheeseburger in Paradise." I know there's more that'll come to me later ;)

I just signed up for spring classes at Akron U, and realized that I will be driving south during evening rush hour on 77....if they add construction to the mix, I may as well just camp out in UA's parking lot, lol :)

Yeah, good luck. 77 has construction on both sides from Richfield into Akron (they are supposedly adding a 3rd lane) and there is a State Patrol car somewhere in the construction at all times. Be careful.

PS I just graduated (again) from Akron U this past summer. Let me know if you need any help with finding buildings / parking :D and good luck in school.

Well, if my Bucs wanted to lose so badly, they should have at least made it look good so I could continue to brag about them half way around the world from Ohio. As it stands, I have to wait awhile before boasting again. Sheesh! On the bright side, Buckeye gear here might go down in price a little so I can buy some more.

We dislike it here and want to move, but I suppose I could show someone the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Not to forget the Southpark Mall in Strongsville, where they actually have a store with nothing but soap; all smells you could imagine.

^_^
We truly are a cultured area ;) My Africa professor was originally from Kenya, and then went to Columbia in NY before moving to Akron. He was complaining "There's nothing to do in Akron compared to NYC"....I guess he *really* didn't research the area well before he moved here....poor guy, lol :)

Aw thanks, how sweet :)

Yeah I think that's the same construction I've been passing; I will be travelling on Rt. 8 one of the days that I have to be there around rush hour, so we'll see how that goes. I seriously dislike being on 8, primarily because I'm totally impatient and the traffic lights in the first stretch of my drive(starting in Macedonia) drive me crazy. I think I'll try to find some relaxing music on itunes ;)

This is actually my second semester at UA. Parking is...'fun'. Not as bad as I'd expected it to be though, but most of my classroom buildings are new this time, so I may be calling on your experience :)

And, I don't know if they told y'all about this, but they started what they call the 'escort service', where one of the campus patrol guys will walk you to your car at night if you don't feel safe. They encouraged us to keep their number in our cell phones in case we had a problem, but I chose to abbreviate it, as I don't want people coming across a listing for 'escort service' in my contacts, lol ^_^

Ha, Ha - good idea to abbreviate that. It's also a good idea to utilize it. I can't tell you how many times I've been approached by non-students begging for money. They walk around near the student union and inside Polsky's.

Good luck :D

Oh yeah, that happens to me at the gas station by campus, and to a few of us that were going to Bible study at a restaurant the other night.
I always feel so bad saying no :( My friend had a good idea- to buy some five dollar McDonald gift cards and give those out instead of cash, but I still don't know if that's wise either (??)
I'm just really glad that this winter wasn't so harsh(well, so far :prayer:); I can't imagine what it's like to sleep outside when it's like 4 degrees :(

Yeah, we go down there a few times a year to COSI and other stuff. We usually stay in the Worthington area.

When you go to COSI you go to my high school. I was in the last graduating class at Central High School.

My home is north and east of Worthington.

COSI is pretty cool. I have an interesting story about COSI. My son was once visiting there with his school and got separated from his class. (2nd Grade) He was wandering around and becoming a little desperate. Finally a nice gray haired elderly gentleman noticed him and found out Chris was supposed to be in the John Glenn auditorium. He told Christopher he was headed that way and would be happy to take him there. Once reunited with his teacher, who was pretty worried, he introduced her to his new friend John. Yep you guessed it, this man was John Glenn. My son has been a fan of his since. (although he disagrees with much of the former senators political stances.)

Sweet - I've always been intrigued by early US space travel (Mercury, Gemini & Apollo)!! I have mostly memories of the old COSI from when I was a little fella, but the new one is nice, too. I've heard that the one in Toledo isn't as good, but I've never been to that one, yet.
